I think there is a problem in this case. Goalkicking is all in the mind - not really physical. Yesterday his goal kicking was 5 out of nine. He missed two penalty kicks and two conversions. That represents a loss of 10 points. On th other side - he cost us 7 points with th starting kick off after the POMS scored a try - by kicking the ball out of play. That represents a turnover of 17 points in favour of the POMS. Not very good on any account.
Last week was not as bad as yesterday - but two flops in two weeks showed something bad in his top storey. It reminds me of the first game I saw him plying in Argentina as a Junior. In the game against Argentina he missed every conversion kick and it put us in a touch and go situation when it came to the outcome of the competition.
I agree that his passing game and his defence have improved - but is that good enough on international level? I think the pressure of competition by Goosen and others is getting to him and that could perhaps be the problem in the case of his goalkicking and other aspects relating to his kicking game.
The series was won by the Springboks - maybe they would give Jantjies a chance to play next Saturday to see what he can produce on international level. This is likely to happen bearing in mind what Meyer said after the game - when he mentioned that some players are showing signs of tiredness and indicated that he are planning some changes for next week. Have doubts about Jantjies too - but he could use the opportunity to show us that he is better than average. The other change could be to go for a change in favour of Basson. They could give Habana a rest - he was top class in the competition thus far.
The ultimate answer would be to play Goosen as flyhalf. Hope he recovers soon.
