Morne Steyn
his game has picked up but due to the fact that he is leaving for france his chances to ever have the green and gold jumper in my view should also be shot. he has played a lot better but the oppostion with all due respect was not the most flash so we have to wait and see how things goes down against the wallies abs and pumas.
bluebook I haven't seen Morne tackle like that ever. He really stepped up and work hard on his defence.
And Goosen's current form is.........................................?
morne did step up blue i agree with you 100% but there is still some nagging litte issues for me that needs to be sorted out before can really say its a front runner. to but it more in perspective morne has played as good as morne can play....if you have to take his game to what morne dished for the last 2 years i will take this perfomance any day of the week.
the next guy that needs to get axed is spies sorry to say.
i agree with your mike 100% steyn much like louw/ spies and co tend to go out on the wonder as soon as they game becomes to tense. there precondiftioned conservative mentality kicks in and then they rather play within themselves.
the facts are morne looked better so lets hope the form continues and builds as there wont be any freebies against the AB or wallies.
le rouw in the 10 channel looks as potent as anything i have ever seen.....his eye and feeling for space is amazing.
we played well against a watered down scotland team and a thug like samoan team that was more content being underhanded than playing rugby. so lets keep perspective and focus on the real rugby coming later this year in the castel champs
the thing is for morne kicking is his primary skillset...just like passing a primary skills is for a scrumhalf...so taking those pressure kicks is part of his job. nobody cant say who would want to take that kick....it comes with the job
with lambie and goosen we dont really need morne and after he signed with a french club we wont see him back in the boks very soon.
Lambie is now a better place kicker than Morne Steyn.
I am also starting to doubt if Lambie is flyhalf material. Most of his best games were when playing at 15.
He was terribale this year for the Sharks, but who wasnt terribale this year for the Sharks?
I would probably rather start Lambie than Morne just because he is more of a long term option and to see if he is the real deal at 10, or if he needs to go back to 15.
If he gets his form back I am sure that he is a better attacking player than Morne, and the other parts of his game could get better like his tactical kicking.
we need to think RWC 2015 and lambie and goosen are great options to have at 10. lambie has been very robotic this year but i am not sure if that was due to form or playing in very under peforming team this year.
if he does find that flair and abilty i am quite sure he can get there.
Morne has been better than the average player he really is. Would I select him ahead of Lambie or Goosen - NEVER
the burning issue is can morne be our man for the RWC 2015 ???? and the short answer to that is no...with his age and him showing his loyality to SA rugby we need to give our local players choice
i think of it like this if you want to look for a fault in a player then you will find something to pick on but thats not tyhe point. what is the real overall value of a player. even carter has shit days with the boot. he missed a shot right in front of the posts. he can sometimes miss 5 kicks in a game but you dont see anyone in new zealand saying how shit he is. i think you guys are over critical to the point that you dont know what your players actually bring to the table! i think meyer has the right idea ith selections like jean because he sees the bigger picture. morne is not a crap player and he defended his channel in the world cup as well. he showed some balls on the weekend. all i know is this if australia had him they wouldnt be shitting their pants for the second test this week.
Bluebok, i heard alot of noise last year about how shit morne was but when goosen and the coloured guy played new zealand they got smashed. its not that easy that one guy comes in and just changes everything it doesnt happen like that only with the most gifted players like habana, sonny bill, mccaw and carter. if morne is so shit then why are the other flyhalfs struggling to beat him to vthe jersey?
Typical of Mike to harp back 7/8 years to find a stick to hit a player with. Nobody can disagree that Morne's kicking form dropped in 2012. Then also nobody can disagree that last weekend was not in line with his kicking thus far this season either.
Many kickers have periods when they go off the boil. There were times when I saw Naas Botha, during a game, give up on the kicking duties and hand the ball to Johan Heunis. There is no flyhalf currently in SA who can push out Morne Steyn. Not even a fit Goosen. He has proven nothing at test level. Zero. May I add that I am a fan of Goosen as well. I don't even want to mention Jantjies and it seems like general consensus that all is not well with LAmbie either.
