Koen had a great boot but that was all.
Koen was never ever regarded as highly as Lambie. Koen was a bit better but Lambie had the most extraordinary hype. That was the beginning of the mythical era of Bok rugby. Now we have Damian, Lood, Kolisi, PTSD, Libbok, Arendse, Moodie, Faf, Willemse, Malherbe et al. Looking at it man for man, the 2003 side that played NZ in the world cup was much better than this side, or the 2019 final side.
Most overrated of all Luke Watson.

Watson was quite overrated, but it doesn't come close to Steph, Lambie, Kolisi, Damian, or Lood. Watson had some good enough performances to at least draw attention, the others were flat lines. Damian in particular was catastrophic between 2014 to 2016. He gets more criticism now, but where was it then? He is actually better now than he was then!
Goosen was never talented. He was found out as early as the Bulls game in Super rugby that year. I think I still have that game on disc.
Ashwin was a strange one. In a poor Bok effort in 2003 against the AB's in the Tri Nations, he did stand out. However, he wasn't exactly great overall. He obviously fell for his own hype. Jake was desperate when looking to him for the 2007 WC, but JP really repaid that faith in him! It was a close call too!
You said he was better. However, it wasn't a good year for him. Hence why he was replaced by Fourie on the EOYT. JJ was a turnstyle on defence. Who could forget his failure to stop Barrett who was within reach? Blew a test, and was never anything thereafter. JJ was awful. Taute was better, but Goosen blew that too.
It's true, Barrett rushed right past him and blew our defence for a try. JJ was a porous defender with exceedingly poor presence in contact. He could run fast, but what did that trai t accomplish? Not a lot.

12997 posts of nothing. That's quite an achievement. The weasel pokes it's head out every now and then, sometimes even its knockers, but never can a rugby post be found.
