I was particularly interested to see how he performed in the game between Exeter and Gloucester and a few things bother me about Mostert's actual performance, while there is only one aspect of play that was really a positive.
The positive is that he made a large number of tackles (27) - while only missing 2. However, none of the tackles could be regarded as strong - in the main the tackled [layer went forward in tackles. He seems not to enter mauls, but stand around behind it and making tackles when the ball carriers carry it around the fringes, Non of the tackles resulted in penalties against Exeter
The list of negatives were as follows:-
Mostert ball carries were poor and not effective at all. He carried the ball 6 times for a territory gain of 5 meters.
Gloucester was attacking and tried three roving mauls after Mostert caught the ball, The mauls initially went backwards and then stalled,
Exeter tried a number of mauls and two of those were successful and they scored two tries because the Gloucester forwards did not defend well against the Exeter mauls. In the maul preceding the second last try of Exeter Mostert was just pushed out of the maul.
Gloucester lost one line-out on own throw and I think the problem was a throw at Mostert.
When Gloucester was 5 meters out and attacking Mostert buggered up badly and the result was a penalty to Exeter.
In essence I think that Mostert's deficient physicality remains a problem - even on club level,
