I know I am hijacking the rugga thread for another sport, but hey, it is not something I do often, so fark it!
Has anyone noticed, or does anyone give a rats arse about how good the young South African, Brad Binder, is doing in Moto 3? Now I know Moto3 is two classes below MotoGP, but the bikes in that class are all very similar in performance, so winning is basically down to the rider. Also, all the greats like Rossi and co started there, and our Brad Binder is kicking some serious arse! 3 wins in a row, and second yesterday. And that second was after being partially taken out of the race with two laps to go. In the final two laps, Binder managed to get from 8th position to 2nd..IN TWO LAPS! Had he not been bumped by the other rider which dropped him back to 8th, he would surely have challenged for the win!
Just saying, I reckon we have a future world champion in this fellow. Add to that his younger brother, only 15, also managed to pick up a world championship point in the race.
Watch this space!! SA might have its own Rossi!

Didn't he also start 35th or something in that first race and then win it from the back?

Yup, started the one race from last position....won by 4 seconds!

I watched some of yesterday's race after I logged on here and saw a post from Brycy about it.
I'm not a huge Moto GP fan but I quite enjoyed the race, especially as I had some SAn interest in Binder, but I thought it a bit unfair that someone like Binder could make up so much ground on the other riders by outbraking them and taking better lines through the bends only to lose 3 or 4 places to slip-streaming on the long straight. I think those 250cc races should have shorter straights.
Anyway, not a sport I normally take a lot of interest in but much more interested now thanks to Binder's performances . . . and didn't know he had a kid brother also racing. They both look like fantastic prospects.

Thanks to Brycy and bb for the heads up. Motorsport can be fun if you've got a horse in the race. Interesting subculture for sure.

...Great race by Binder extending his lead on the Championship a further 20 points from 47 to 67...Can't wait to see him go up a class..

Hey Brycy, I was a huge Schwanz fan back in the day. Crash or win on his Suzuki. Glad BB looks in the same mold...hope he crashes less!

yea mate those were the days...and yet another master class from Binder today - you get the feeling this is just the beginning for Binder aged only 21 and already a World Champion... Valentino Rossi for example is still winning grand prix at 37 just as an indication of the longevity achievable by some of the top riders...

Thanks Brycie, none of us would have known of Binder if not for you...I might just start watching MGP again...was a huge Schwanz fan in the 80's and then a Stoner fan in the early 200's

...just watching the Moto2...i see Binder is not racing today and has had his arm rebroken and replated...Binder finished a credible 9 th in Argentina in Round 2 but surprised to see his injury from last November is still giving him grief...

...2018 season starting very well for Binder with the KTM bikes dominating the latest trial finishing an impressive first, second and third... and Binder no longer a rookie either so should see plenty of podium finishes this year from South Africa's rising star ...especially seeing last years champion Morbidelli is out of the way after moving up to MotoGP...First round the Qatar GP starting in seven days...not long to go now before some exciting racing ...

Yup, Binder is starting to look a lot more comfortable at Moto 2 now. He battled quite a lot at first. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for him. It would be awesome to have an SA rider in MotoGP.
