Great to see a saffa on the leader board after the second round, with Tiger not too far behind do you guys think Rory can go on to win the Memorial? Rory seems to be playing with a lot of confidence whereas Woods seems to be inching towards his A game.
Denny there is great affection in the States for Ernie......Retief, Oosthuizen, Schwartzel and Immelman are very respected.....but Fulton Allem and Rory Sabatini are universally disliked. I have played with Fulton, and share that perspective.
Rory I don't know personally, but there is a great story which floats around a CT golf club which held the SA Open. During his practice round Rory drove the first green, a par 4, with a howling North Wester behind him. He then loudly proclaimed that it was a rinky dink layout. But the challenge lies in the wind and the small greens. Rory failed to qualify to the delight of everybody.
So he is a blowhard.....too much so even in the States which has taken that characteristic to an art form. He does wear nice Springbok coloured shoes though and maybe he is maturing a touch. It's always nice to see the SA flag up on the Board.
As for Tiger, most of the damage is between the ears....so who knows where he is. He is back to punching 3 woods and long irons rather than hitting his driver. And unlike his great days, his putts often are short (like Ernie). But he hit some great pin seeking irons late yesterday.
It's a great course for tournament golf....harder than heck from the back tees. Watch the chartered accountant, Furyk, it's his kind of track.
