So my son is head of rugby at The Ipswich School, a top tier rugby school in England. Nicky Boje is head of cricket at the school and another Saffa, ex Shark Ryan Strudwick has recently joined from Michaelhouse as the director of sport

Anyway - Boje is mates with Jake White and reckons he could easily set my son up with a session with Jake at the Bulls during the summer months here

Sod’s Law - Jake is about to be sacked so that session will never materialise

Karma for all my Jake hate :)

Life….a series of unintended consequences. Today at my golf club , while looking at a new McLaren, I did a full length pearler over a small step I hadn’t encountered before. It’s amazing once you start really falling how quickly the ground hits you. It all just amounted to a scraped knee and I played my round, but it could have been worse. So many of us WW1 types are done in by falls.

Back to more important things, your son. Why not have a meeting with Jake, like Eddie he always seems to find another gig. Who knows Jake could be coaching in the UK next year. And it’s a pretty tight community I suspect, so broadening your network has to be a plus. Best wishes to him.

Dave

Yours is funny - but this one also

The other day this came up on the internet:-

The chap's mother-in-law came every year for Xmas dinner and he also always gave her a present, So two years ago she came and her Cristmas present was a burial plot registered in her name, So last year she came again and demanded where her present was, The chap told her that since she did not properly use the present he gave her the previous year he decided he decided not to buy her a present at all.

Glad to hear the fall never amounted to much you war vet

Yeah I’m sure my son will take Boje up on his offer to set him up with Jake depending on where Jake ends up

My boy is still young so is wanting to take in as much as he can - at the moment he is leading the ship without a mentor. The mentor he had shot himself in the foot early doors so he had to seek out knowledge elsewhere

Ryan Strudwick coached for many years, a stint as one of Plumtree’s assistants at the Sharks I think and also London Irish so no doubt he will pick up stuff from him, especially the darks arts of forward play - plus no doubt Strudwick is well connected in SA having just left.

My boy fancies an English summer in SA soaking up the rugby knowledge. His ex schools coach and once Griquas coach is now at DHS and has invited him to come join him for a month or so if he fancies it.

All good stuff Dave…if you are young, a bit of time in RSA on post graduate rugby and discovering just how pretty the South African girls are, sounds like a plan.

Dave he should apply to join the rugby development center in Stellenbosch where many prominent youngters go even when they sign contracts with franchises, That is where Ackerman is operating at present, Boje can help him in that as well.

Once he is there and showing progress he is bound to find contracts with SA franchises and potntially also clubs in the UK. Best advice i think he should try to use,

No no Mike he has a brilliant job here in England - he is head of rugby of a top tier rugby school in England

He just wants to go over to SA in his off season to shadow more experienced coaches like Jake or Pete Engeldow

He is definitely not looking to leave his job or England - he loves his job, he would not give it up in a hurry
