there is credibility in your point that Meyer's squad has been crippled by injuries to some much needed hard heads and that he has picked the best under the circumstances. I guess it's fair to say that everyone has their favourite player and likewise a dislike of a certain player or players and everyone thinks their selections are better than everyone else's. Pretty much what Sappex is on about. We can go around in circles on that one but I'm not going there. I've lost interest in Meyer from the time he showed his hand by picking superduds from the Bulls and also his lack of a gameplan but more importantly I've become very anxious about who he's selected as his support staff. None have any credibility. Meyer you seriously must admit has blundered badly and outside of a crippled squad he only has himself to blame.

Even worse is that between him and his support staff there is no reason to believe that the Boks will improve,so with tears in my eyes I ask, why should he be given a chance? Chance slid out the side door at the last saloon.

Well what do you know. He also picked a few superduds from the WP. He picked the duddest of the superduds as his captain. He has also picked superdud Driesalina Elastoplast Bekker, amongst others.

My choice is irrelevant because I am not the coach. Fact is that I do not view it in a provincialistic manner like you. I just used that to try and demonstarte to you that you, like a whole lot of others on this board is provincialistic about the entire issue. You are forever harping on about the Bulls in the team, etc, yet there are many weak links in the set-up, and nobidy is ever going to satisfy everybody. You have underlined the exact situation that Meyer is in, yet you choose to let your WP undercoat hang out. The fact is that a once RWC winning side has been pulled apart and lost almost all of it's vital parts and almost has to be refabricated in total.

Some time ago, when HM first made mention about the possibility of JDV as captain, this board and all it's WP fanclub exploded and the brilliance of JDV as captain was broadcast by all of you, and now....?

At this moment in time, my captain would be Adriaan Strauss. He is right at the front where you need your captain to be. He is an experienced captain and he has proven that he can lead a team under adverse conditions. What will happen when Bismarck returns is another question. I might get slated for this, but maybe we should once again settle for someone who is perhaps not 100% the best available in his position, but who is the better leader and captain............ I don't think that Bismarck is that much nbetter than Strauss in any case, but that is just a personal viewpoint.

Actually, I agree that Adriaan Strauss should be the Bok captain, said so on this very board, had no idea I had a WP undercoat but that's fine if you think so. Seems like you and Mozart agree with regard to the need for the Boks to be refabricated...nice work, it kinda makes for a change

If you were trying to hide your WP bias, you have failed miserably.

Denny as I pointed out on another thread Whineke's success with the Bools came very late, and only after Victor, Bakkies and F du Preez had become the best in the game. I'm not at all sure he is a great coach. Nor did I like a lot of his early selections, like Potgieter and Greyling.

But, as Bongani says, this was always going to be a tough year.....retirements were significant. But then injuries played further havoc. I'm guessing our RWC team could beat the best we could field today by 20 points. If he had that team Meyer may be well on his way now.

The other point I stressed is, despite the hysterical player disagreements by Mike and Dave.....there are no obvious better selections. Selecting a bunch of youngsters is simply going to destroy them. We have probably done significant damage to Goosen already.

For better or for worse we have Whineke. But he could do what all coaches do, and revamp his support staff to provide....well....more support. I don't think he is a rugby genius, but probably better than PdV, and with a good team around him, he could still succeed.

My view is simply  this - judge Meyer by his 2013 results. By then the Boks should be doing well. Injured players coming back and young players challenging strongly. Another round of Super rugby by which to assess players and meyer having had a reasonable amount of time with his sqaud etc.

Meyer will have a very good player pool to select from next year - barring more crippling injuries - and I would expect the Boks to start firing and look a better side.

However having said all that there is one very big question overshadowing everything. Can we ever really compete if our top players are so poorly managed? What Bok coach can counter that?  Overplayed players and far too many injuries mean we are always playing sub strength sides.  will Kitshoff an dmalherbe start in every match until they fall appart. Will Etzebeth play and play until he finally cracks up. All this is fundamental.

When will the penny finally drop with the boneheads?

I agree that Meyer appears to have messed up in his support staff choices. Very disappointing stuff but final conclusions can be drawn by end of 2013. What should be thrown out is this bulle bias rubbish.  Only one bulle will be in the bok starting pack. I cant see more than say 2 or less in the backline. Here is hoping Taute gets a shot.

Taute had his shot - what a joke. So if you were the coach you would drop him after his showing against Oz and NZ - how pathetic and chances are you would have followed Taute out the door with that kind of player management skill!!

No Dave, as with most things in life there is a third option. I would let Taute compete for 15, the spot he, the Bok and WP coaches and all the fans except seemingly you, regard as his best. As for my managerial experience, I'd say it exceeds that of a divorce lawyer.
