The poet Mozart posted thsi in 2002. At the bottom is my comment expressing concern about Oz drug taking. Moz I hope you dont mindme posting your poem but it is a great piece of work and really prophetic given what has come to light recently.

Travelling Oz in a burned out Kombie

We came across this would be Brumbie Smaller than a starving jockey He laughed and said...."no problems mate watch me" And he said "I come from a land down under Where women booze while men slumber They cant even hear the thunder When they snore way down under"   He was off to this brilliant doctor In a pad nearby the Yarra river For a cocktail of tonic and diuretics Great results...negative test metrics And he said "yeah"! I come from a land down under Where critics whine and refs blunder. You cant even hear the thunder When they moan way down under"   Next we saw him he was full of bustle Six foot four and carved in muscle I said "son , do you speaka my language?" He just smiled and gave me a steroid sandwich. And he roared "I come from a land down under Where pills are popped while officials slumber They cant even hear the thunder Cause the whole things buried deep down under"   Moz 2002 - commenting on Aussies "accidentally" taking drugs. I've always had my doubts about those huge Aussie backs.

I come from a land down under

Yeah, poetry is ok, but the " huge Aussie Backs" is a work of fiction.

Glad you can seperate them. Im no judge of poetry , just words at the end of the day, and dont really tickle my fancy. But the concept of " huge Aussie backs " , you really have taken advantage of the " poetic licence ". And i think im better place to comment on that.

My summary. Huge Aussie backs..

Cooper - 98kg

Barnes - 87kg

Beale - 95 kg

Cummins - 96kg

Faingaa - 88kg

Harris - 96kg

Ioane - 93kg

mcCabe - 92kg

Mitchell - 91kg

Phipps - 85kg

Tapuai - 95kg

Sheehan - 90kg

if these guys are huge, steroid junkies like you make them out to be, then you must be a 3ft tall , short sighted mouse of a man.

Frans Steyn - 110kg

Jean - 100kg

Jp Pietersen - 102kg

Ruan Pienaar - 92kg

Habana - 94kg

Taute - 95kg

Kirchner - 92kg

Morne - 91kg

Hougaard - 91kg

Lambie - 87kg

Mvovo - 92kg

that must make our back Steroid junkies to the max x2.

Beans, he just is not reading what you are saying....he's gone and listed all the current backs...not those from 11 years ago. Off the top of my head, Wendell Sailor, Stirling Mortlock and co.

Neither are you -  "Moz I hope you dont mind me posting your poem but it is a great piece of work and really prophetic given what has come to light recently."

what has come to light "recently" is the use of peptides in Aussie sports currently, not in 2002

but if 2002 is a graph...we had delport at 105kg, Fourie at 105kg , Barry, terblanche, Greeff all Mid 90kg rangeand a few liggtweights like Paulse and Ricardo . @ 2003 World Cup. The Aussie had 5 backs over 100kg, the heaviest being Sailor at 106 kg , 3 backs below 90 kg and the rest low 90kg range.

so, i will work on my reading if others would be so kind as to keep their current affairs and past history in seperate cages. would hate for those facts to mix.

I make that Goodman 1, bluebok/Baboon-ou 0.

No big surprise that the nancy boys who are on a rugby message board squealing about how much they love poetry (and incredibly bad "poetry" at that) are getting their clocks cleaned out in a rugby argument!

Actually bluebok seems a decent enough chap . . . for a Bulls supporter anyway . . . but perhaps Baboon-ou should stick to what he does best . . . thrusting his head as far up Moffie's pale wrinkled arse as possible.

For the record, this is a song that has had its words modified, it is not a poem. I actually can't stand poetry, but being a part time musician, I have decided that I am allowed the double standard of liking the lyrics that are associated with music...and even if it is just in my head, I don't consider them poetry.

Men at Work is the band, and the song is called Down Under. I happen to play the song, that is why I am so familiar with the words. You'll definately know the song if you hear it.

So Beeno1 should have been better advised to give praise to them for their - Lyrical platform.

Its not a poem. Prehaps Mozart never intended it so, and it was just Beeno1 lavishing misinformed praise.

So No poem and No Peptide abuse by the "huge Aussie backs " of 2002.

Yes Goodman was defintely thinking about todays Oz backs and misread the issue being raised.

Oz I think Oz then had backs like Gregan, Larkham, Nathan Grey, Daniel Herbert, Joe Roff, Latham, Sailor and Burke. In 2002 Fourie was about 96 kg. Delport was also 96 kg. At the time I lined them up and compared them. The Oz backs were heavier and in fact this was the begining of the debate about size which has raged ever since.

Why were oz backs bigger than ours was the question especially as they had normally been smaller.

I note the sanctimonious rooitwt is reverting to vulgar type. It was inevitable. Bwahahahahahahhahahaha

These were the backlines from the first test in 2002.

14 W Stefan Terblanche 13 C Marius Joubert 12 C De Wet Barry 11 W Breyton Paulse 10 FH Andre Pretorius 9 SH Bolla Conradie

15

FB

Chris Latham

14 W Ben Tune 13 C Matt Burke 12 C Dan Herbert 11 W Stirling Mortlock 10 FH Stephen Larkham 9 SH George Gregan (c)

My guess is:

Latham over Greef by 5kgs.

Tune over Terblanche by 5kgs

Burke over Joubert by 5 kgs

Herbert over Barry by 5 kgs

Mortlock over Paulse by 20kgs

Larkham over Pretorius by 10 kgs

Gregan over Conradie by 7 Kgs.

A massive weight advantage, but some of this comes from players selected. More concerning was the massive weight put on by Burke, Herbert and Tune....all of whom were average guys when they started.

Tune was finally caught, even though they claimed it was accidental. About as accidental as Lance Armstrong.

Beeno1, would you be prepared to show me where your getting your 96kg figure from for those two players.

And I read into your post that because they are heavy, they are prehaps cheats. Would our backs that are now heavier than Aussies be cheats as well ?

Your maths and facts are very flawed.

Goodman nothing was proven at that stage but it looked very odd. As mike has indicated there were a number o fcover ups by Oz officals and folk were becoming suspicious. The poem encapsulates all that and low and behold look what has happened.

Anyhow I think its a great poem. Lovely touch of humour in it etc.

Our backs have been for decades heavier than oz just like our forwards are the biggest in world rugby. Its in the Africaner genes.

My maths is flawed. Why so? You are sounding like a certain dorkie dumbo/bedpan right now.  I smell MOLE.

Gregan over conradie by 4kg

Larkham over Pretorius by 5 kg

Sorry i am working these out based on to the links on those names when i click them.

According to one of the links, Barry weighs in at 88kg ?

And the link provided also says Tune is heavier than Stefan by , 1kg.

Take your childish name calling and walk away. Im not interested. I have not been rude or abusive to you in any way .

Thanks for the reseach Moz, I didnt keep a record of the comparison I made at the time.  Your weight differentials look about right to me.

Goodman the trick is to get weights for each side as at 2002 which Moz has done. Currently for example Jaque Fourie is 105 kg. Not the 96 kg he began as or even the 100kg we got more used to seeing later on.

Why do I know this - because I look to see what a player weighs. Like snapster I think going too light causes problems. Very few players who are below par weightwise can perform at the top level.

Have you clicked on the links ? then take the pounds shown on each player and convert to kilograms.

If your looking for the differentials they are right there. If that site ( ESPN ) is correct. Mozart has provided the links, But if my maths is correct his differentials dont match up.

Goodman I clearly said ...."my guess is". It's very hard getting any reliable data about weights...and this far back it's close to impossible. Those are my impressions. But the real point here isn't the weight, it's drug use.

This adaptation was written in 2002 after the Tune scandal. The issue wasn't so much whether Tune had knowingly cheated, but that the Australian rugby men covered it up....the punch line of my little effort.

Now with this exposure of the practices in Australian League, all those holier than thou statements from Aussie Rugby look very suspicious. And when you look at what happened physically to a guy like Mathew Burke...well, lets just say he pushed a lot of weights.

I myself have looked into this and the fact that most wieghts of players are changed on most sites with every new measurement at the start. during and after every sesson of rugby to find all the weights of those in 2002 it would be near impossible unless someone had  a record but how reliable is one mans word! and even though i was a mear boy at 2002 i remember my dad raging at the size of the assuies saying that they must be on something! also i just wanted to say benno size aint everything! rememer james small putting Loma on his ass in the 1995 world cup final :P
