Its pretty simple, really. Matfield and Etzebeth to start with De Jager on the bench.

Mance
Why? Matfield does not show any physicality in a Tight 5 that needs to be physical. If Matfield is to be considered I would perhaps put him on the bench - but perhaps with a serious question mark.
My problem remains - Matfield is far too light in weight to ever be a physically imposing lock forward and to keep him in the team to catch line out balls is just not feasible. Both De Jager and Etzebeth are stronger than Matdield physically and more imposing on the opposition.
In the RC Matfield will be an unacceptable passenger and the Aussie and AB locks will have ab advantage over us as a result.

Agreed Mance....Matfield is the nous that helped the Bools win. And all these kids are in awe of him, playing better as a result .....he did a brilliant job in these tests.

Mozart
Are you serious? What brilliant job did he do in the test series? Do you want De Jager out and a physically deficient Matfield in the team then? What a joke - that one.
C an you not see that Matfield cannot use force in carrying balls and that the first tackler bring him straight down? That he is not a factor in driving mauls anymmore and just tossed aside in the process.
The awe story is real claptrap - not deserving comment.

I ask you a straight question? Is Matfield physically strong enough to impose himself as a tight 5 player since he weighs 10 kgs less than the average weight locks nowadays?
Granted he is light and easy to lift in line outs - but is that all that is required from a lock?

It is widely recognised Etzebeth is the ebst lock in the world. Loodt is clearly vastly superior to the self promoting show pony.
The pack could be:Beast, Bissie, JannieLoodt, EtzebethLouw, Vermuelen and Burger.
Please dont tell me that pack lacks experience etc!! Burger was set to be Bok captain before his injury he can lead the pack. Bissie captain the sharks. Louw captain Bath and vermulen has captaine the Stormers.
Why in the world through away your tight five edge and play a tight 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is sheer madness!
I fervently hope that whatever grip matfield has over Meyer it is broken. Fo r the sake of Bok rugby please retire for good victor.
