I was watching the Senate confirmation hearings and is thinking that Tr ump is trying to bring in real experts to run the country - but have a serious question about the hearings - is the Senators at "war: against Russia.
I have to use CNN whom Tr ump accused of Fake news. I think that CNN is rabid anti-Tr ump. Are they really a fake news institution?

Mike CNN is no more liberal than NBC, ABC or CBS. They are all committed to a liberal agenda, as are their offshoots like MSNBC. The spat yesterday came about because CNN decided to draw attention to an unverified story about Tr.ump put out by Buzzfeed. The fact that the others I named did not, tells you this was dubious material.
........
The only Network on the other side is Fox who play an important role, not because they aren't also biased, but because without them many important news stories would not see the light of day. They provide a voice. So if one wants a balanced perspective you watch them all and BBC as well.
............
The story is the same in the print media, where only the Wall Street Journal provides a conservative perspective.....their alter ego the Financial Times which I enjoy reading, is very liberal as befits the pink newsprint. Papers like the New York times which used to be the national newspaper, has swung way left....embarrassingly so at times.
..........
The Kabuki theatre being played out in the Senate has lots of undercurrents......older Senators asserting their relevancy, future presidential candidates taking advantage of the national stage and a few very committed types. Most of this is irrelevant. Using Russia as the boogie man is easy.....scores of Hollywood movies and cold war spy novels have established that view.
...........
And linking Tr.ump and Russia plays into that established prejudice. It's hard to defend though because most of the media is rabidly anti Tr.ump and the conservative media is anti Russia. The country hasn't accepted that Russia, more than Europe, could be an effective partner against terrorism. For example Russia warned the US about the Boston bombers, warnings which were ignored.
.........
But what we are seeing on the left is nothing short of a national nervous breakdown.
............
Setting aside for a moment Tr.ump's personalty many of his election positions are right.....the fact that America shouldn't be paying to defend Europe, the danger of unchecked immigration, the issues of the rust belt and the inner cities, the withdrawal of American leadership etc. etc. etc. Another 8 years like the last 8 would dramatically change the USA and as we have seen, the world. And the majority of Americans find that concerning.
............
He has bitten off a huge agenda, much of which is right....but no president has as much opposition right out of the gate, we are in for some fireworks.

I di not think there is any love lost between Russia and the Jihadists. This had a history of Centuries and go back to the time of the Grand Dukes of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom and later empire.
However, recent history is no better. It started in Chesnia (unfortunately many of the most rabid ISIS and Al Qaida members are Chenians) - they have undertaken mass terrorst attacks in Moscow and other minor times.
I think the real reasons for the Russian intervention in Syria has much to do with getting at the Chesnians fighting for Isis in Syria - they are not involved in Iraq - but some of their allies - as well as the US is involved in that country - on the ground - so why should they bother?

Mike I'm just amazed we are still in the same place in the second decade of the 21st century. This particular conflict has been going on for a thousand years and more...it shows the power of a simple idea.
