Since Francois Steyn converted some long distance goal kicks in the Lions game and also in the two subsequent games - we are being bombarded with Mozart madness - his insistence that Steyn must be the flyhalf of the Springboks.
Mozart has just one rule for a flyhalf - he shall kick at goal. For the rest he can bugger up as much as he likes and he is according to him the answer to our Springbok needs.
I would like to ask him some simple questions to clarify the situation - especially in voIw of what he himself wrote about Steyn last year - when he wrote that Steyn is not suitable for flyhalf since he is slow in decision making and should play at fyull back - where he has more time to consider the next moves than he has at either 10 or 12.
The questions are the following:-
* What makes Steyn a good decision making flyhalf and give examples from the game he played there or even from games he played at 12?
* Is his passing game really acceptable considering the inaccurate and even wild passing that took place in the Lions game?
* Is his defense really up to standard - proof top be provided in respect of all games he played in this year?
* Has he even once contributed positively to any attacking moves of the Sharks this year by inititating line breaking passes or by strategic kicking?
* Has he not kicked balls away aimlessly when it was essential that he should rather pass the ball? One of the commentators yesterday was seriously annoyed by that yesterday.
If you could answer the above and prove that Steyn has no problems with regard to other aspects of his play than kicking at goal - then so be it - you have reasonable issues that support your comments.
Looking at the Lions game yesterday I think that Boshoff is twice the flyhalf Steyn would ever be - so if you were campaigning for Boshoff - you will have my support. Steyn - support for him at flyhalf - is rank lunacy.
