The thread was ruined and I am just reacting to the headline in this case.
However, the stats does not reflect what really happened in this case. Clermont was severely weakened by -
* calling up of a substantial number of their players being called up for national duty; and
* a list of injuries problems of other players.
That resulted in 7 under 21 players in the starting line-ups and on the bench clearly rucng the team to what can at best be regarded as their B-team. Despite that Montpellier managed to beat 28-24.
I watched the game and although Fat Fransie was standing out as a player one has to bear in mind the opposition he faced and to write anything positive about him is clearly not an objective assessment taking into account the full scenario.
By the way the Montpellier team did not contribute much to the national squad and they started the game with 7 SA players and a few other nationalities in their team even though they also had three injuries.
By the way I watched the game - Fat Fransie scored his first try getting the ball three meters out from a maul and it was clearly virtually impossible to prevent the try and the second try was from an accurate cross-kick by Cruden and there was nobody to defend in front of Fatso.

What rubbish? What I wrote is factual and tried to put the situation in perspective.

Why the new thread on the topic? Why not attack the arguments made on the relevant thread? What a nonsensical move.

Montpellier will be wiped the floor with by the Stormers and De Allende played the fool with Steyn a few years back - so what will change by now.

Well Fransie is in the past. He could have been backup if we had a settled midfield combo, but we can't waste game time on him while we search for our new 12.

Good luck with the search....in the meantime Frans provides more value than anybody else available. He will be 32 at the 2019 RWC, young enough.

Young enough yes, for a settled team member and a Bok staatmaker...wich he is not. His career eas overshadowed by controversy....we don't need all that BS ATM. We have better prospects.

Like who....they all seem pretty flawed. Rohan is weak defensively, Step is bog ordinary and has never been a factor in a Bok test, Vorster seems more comfortable at 13....Allende is going backwards. None of them brings the gravitas to the position Frans does. It’s a shame we haven’t produced a real successor to the great JdV but that’s reality.

And Fat Fransie did not a defensive liability with what gravitas - other than being patently unfit - did he show when he was given an opportunity last year? If he was a fit 30 last year and showed some signs of life it would have been fine.
Problem is Fat Fransie matured early and went sour early as well.

Well Fransie vintage 1987 is much like La Tache 1987....here are some notes:
..
- COOLLAWYER WROTE: 95 Points
So fragrant so floral. Raspberries sharp and incredible amounts of fruits. Lovely acids and tannins which are very nicely integrated. With bits of tobacco and fruits. It's singing at this point in time.

Ou maaaaikie you say fat Fransie. How much does he currently weigh. He is a big lad so he could weigh 105 to say 110 without being fat.
07 Nov 2017, 09:22#19
Montpellier’s site has Steyn as 1.91m and 107kg but don’t let that get in the way of a good argument. Steyn is fat and unfit while Montpellier’s winger Joe Tomane, at 1.9m and 115kg, is lean, slim and trim and as fit as a fiddle.

Thanks Windpomp. 107 Kg would be about the right weight. IF Frans is playing well bring him back. He is a big talent.
Ou maaaikie just call him Frans, its appears the terms fat is BS!

How the4 hell did Fransie get down from 118 kgs to 107 kgs? Anyway say he ahs lets get back to the fitness issue. He was blatantly unfit in the test last year when he came from the bench and chased on up-field kick. After running 30 meters he was completely out of breath and it showed clearly on TV.
Fact is that for years now Fransie had a series of poor games over a period of 5 years. He lost weight according to the above and now suddenly after Montpellier beat a "B" team of Clermont he is top class again.
Bad news that one and has been for years.

As I said..... Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good argument. Frans Steyn is fat. Why? Because Ou Maaikie says he is fat. Finish and klaar.

Ou maaaaikie you do know Frans had injury issues that prevented him training properly. Maybe those have healed and he is now fighting fit. Your case re FAT Frans appears to be collapsing.

Do you ever watch a rugby game? Frans may not be fat anymore - but useless he remains and proved that in the June tests when he was useless when he came off the bench. It was clear he was not match-fit.
Then there is the issue of his performance against a denuded Clemot tem he is the hottest thing in rugby. What a farce.
