It really is amazing when you listen how Mozart finds fault with the comments of others in respect of players forthe Springbok team - but then keeps quiet about his own disastrous recommendations Lets look at the various players and see how he dealt with them:-
Pollard
As from about early April 2014 the only player Mozart supported at flyhalf was Francois Steyn and he kept up that refrain all the time. His sole criteria were Stey's kicking at goal and his physical attributes. The facct that hois defense was poor and he actually brought near to zero to the other aspects of flyhalf play sis not count at all.
His second choice flyhalf ws Morne Steyn. He could not and would not see how poor Morne's performance in fact was in the Ellis Park test last year - as well as his more recent tests. Morn - aacording to Mozart won the away test for the Springboks in Salta after he came off from the ebnch. He totally ignored the bugger-ups like charge down kick in the last minutes of the game in Pretoria - which nearly cost us our win in the test and the kick directly into tough - when he should have kept the ball possession by the Springboks - also in the last few minutes of the Salta test - putting the Springboks under serious pressure. According to him Morne wo the test at Salta for the Springboks and he was the only selection that could eb considered for the Australia test. Ignoring all the other bugger-ups Morne made - Mozart made out that the bugger-up of Morne in the perth test was the only porblem Morne had this past year,
Now to Pollard. He makes out that he discovered Pollard and that he would support Pollard's selection as flyhalf - but only after the 2015 WC. However, that is now ignored - Mozart was the great fnder of Pollard and the provisional support for Pollard is not being mentioned. Let Pollard make e single mistae in a test and Mozart will jump back to the Steyns. One would have thought that he was an all-out supporter - but that support was never really forthcoming and Pollar was blamed for the poor eprformance of the Springboks in the Pretoria and Salta tests - while Morne was our "saviour" in thosoe two tests.
Mozart never was a supp-orter for the selection of Pollard this year - maybe it would change after the 2015 WC - but despite his protestations - no support this year.
Francois Steyn
Francois was Mozart's first choice flyhalf for the Springboks this year - and also a fter Jean de Villiers - Mozart's choice at 12. When pointed out that Francois failed to really deliver the goods in Super 15 - he did point out his "presence" as the reason for selection - that came a close second after his reputation as part of the 2007 WC team. Francois's failures in the tests he played in last year and his generally poor performances in Super 15 since then - counted for nothing. He still suksabout Francois - despite the fact that the latter was childish in his conduct in June.
Willem Alberts
Here we have the mighty ball carrier and the bone-crushing tackler - that is according to Mozart.
Never mind the fact that Alberts' -
* ball handling is non-existent:
* never carries balls more than 2 metters and he is brought down with ease because he is clumsy;
* has an extrmely quesionable defensive record - his bone-crushing tackles is mythical amd his missed tackles legendary;
* because of clumsiness plays no role whatsoever in breakdiwn ball protection and ball recovries; and
* is a player with an extremely low work rate,
he (Alberts) is a must at 7 for the Springboks.
Bakkies Botha
If one bears in mind Mozart's enthusiastic support for the Bakkies Botha selection - one would have thought that Bakkies was the most wonderful performer at lock. Mozart within half and hour after the final whistle in the Scots test last year in November (his first return test) - Mozart was on this site with a praise song about the wonderful Bakkies performance - That despite a very questionable performance by Bakkies in that test.
The fact that Bakkies only contributes to gaes for about ten to 15 minutes counts for nothing - his extremely questionable low work ate performances counts for nothing.
Jannie du Plessis
Here we have the player Mozart designated as out "national treasure" That despite the fact that Jannie does very well for scrummaging in the first 15 minites a=of games - then goes to average for the rest of the first half - after which from a scrumming perspective he collapse like a house of cards. Dear Janne is notoriously poor outside of scrummng - but Mzart never mentions that as a probem. It seems our "national treasue" has feet of clay.
