Juan De Jongh scored the following points during the last two natches he played in:-

*   Brumbies     -      10 points

*   Crusaders   -        4 points

The other contenders in their last three matches scored as follows:-

JJ Engelbrecht

*   Crusaders    -       6 points

*   Reds           -        4 points

*   Brumbies     -       29 points

Paul Jordaan

*   Kings           -        10 points

*   Brumbies     -        25 points

*   Rebels         -         15 points

SUMMARY

The averages were as follows:-

De Jongh         -          7  points

Engelbrecht     -         13 points

Jordaan           -          16,67 points

It must be mentioned that players get 2 points for playing

None of the 13's actually did perform regularly  on a satisfactory basis - but none was at bad as De Jongh has been.    He was largely absent from both games - was really bad news and in fact is a liability.  The bestt thing Coetzee could do would be to get rid of him and play De Allende at 12 and De Villiers at 13.

Points? Hahahaha....Mike I'm sure you have the points just as wrong as you have everything else. But no need for points when we can go back to the raw data.....and observation.

Let's start with de Jongh. He carried 4 times for 18 metres and beat one defender. All about normative, except a bit low on the carries.....but then the Saders hogged second half possession before Juan was subbed. He also made one brilliant take flat out, of a ball thrown in front of him. He missed 2 of his ten attempted tackles, but made two brilliant scything tackles. A solid afternoon against a tough opponent.

Now to make a direct comparison let's go to de Allende....same opponent, just a little more tired. He ran 5 times for 12 metres, half de Jongh's productivity, but you are massively impressed with him?

And Engelbrecht gets what????? Twenty nine points against the Brumbies. He had 3 runs for 45 metres...1 CB, and 1 Db. But the CB came without him beating a single player, it was an overlap. And I'm guessing he gained at least 35 metres running through space. So for the rest his stats look like de Jongh except he made a lot of tackles.

And how about Serfontein who you are already putting in the Bok team. Well he had 9 carries for 32 metres at 3.6 metres a carry versus de Jongh's 4.5 metres a carry...he did beat 3 defenders versus 1 for Juan.....but then again he ran twice as much.

The guy you leave out of course is Jean....who had 7 carries for 45 metres and beat 4 defenders. He remains the only SA centre who can make the hard  yards against a stacked defence. Something he demonstrated yesterday.

Mike, as I said before.....you just aren't very good at stats.

Mozart

What you conveniently does not mention is De Jongh's real defence stats that shows him up as a poor defender and was contributed to the Stormers backline's sub-par deence with only one defende (De Villiers) having to cover the work supposedly done by 3 players,Jantjies defence stats - uaeless as per normal -  and also the penalty he gave away.

He did not miss ONE tackle - he missed two and the tackles issue is dealt with below.   His scything attacks - when in the game did it happen and sine when is two six meter runs "scything"   In the whole ame Jantjies broke one tackle and was tackled by the first opponent opposing him - Scything - that reaklly is a joke.   De Jongh and "scything attacks" - that is a new one on me  must remember that when I have to respond in the enxt game he goes AWOL.  Blaas my siel.

None of the tackles he made had any impact since the attacking player off-loaded the balls efecively - he was a nightmare anyway.  In other cases - where it did not happen - oher players had to assist De Jongh in tackles s it was apparent that they were dangerously near to breaking the line as De Jongh was just not good enough to make tackles without assistance.

And De Allende was on the field of play for 10 minutees - while De Jongh was there for 70 minutes.  In that ten minutes he had to try and clear up the backline mess so closely associated with the Jantjies and De Jongh mess earlier in the match.

Interpreting stats and the wider impact a player has on the game - you only  use selective issues to try and prove a worthless player as worthy of selection.

You are as always very selective with what you call stats - I expected nothing more or less.  What you do not realise is that all the stats you so nicely provided are used by the websites involved to determine what any player produced on the field of play and what impact it had on the game.  I merely quoted the points here to support wwhat I said about the useless and  over-rated player that constantly gets tackled back causing major problems in recovery of balls he carried.

I quote all the stats....for and against my case. De Allende had to try and "clear up the backline mess associated with Jantjies and de Jongh". How does he do that play 10 , 12 and 13. What balls, his job was to penetrate in the last 10 minutes when the Stormers had possession and the Saders were wearing down....but his metres per run were half that of de Jongh. Hoist by your own petard!

Why did they sent on De Allende?  Because Scything Attack de Jongh cannot penetrate cotton wool.  At least De Allende was not tackled back like Scything Attack was.

 De Jong has been extremely poor this season. If Ac wants to salvage this seaon he will need to drop Janties, de Jong and Fourie. I would rather bring in some youngsters. Time for Howard , du plesis and Swiel.

Sorry Mozart

I did not read your lauditory statement in total.  I will change the name for De Jongh to "Scything Tackle"  in future.    Nice on that scything tackles - did the opponents loose  possession of the ball or were tackled back - it must have happened in your imagination.

Yep and the commentators and I share the same imagination. Corn I agree de Jongh hasn't made a difference yet.....but he has played only two games against likely semifinalists. Let's see if he finds his feet.

De Jongh has now played two full years and two matches and he never found his feet on Super 15 level - what makes you think that might change   in future?

Ever heard the term "match fit"? If not look it up on the internet, there will be more fulsome descriptions than I care to provide.

I get the message loud and clear - is it possible for a player at Super 15 level not to be matchfit for the whole of 2011 and 2012?   I ask again - why should his matchfitness make any difference in future.

Lets change the wording a bit - he flopped for two years running - making zero impression in attacking play and often enough also in knocking on of balls, turnovers by the opposition and giving away penalties.

The question is - wiith his record - which is obtainable from ESPN Stats was he a fit choice to play in any matches.   He is and remains what he was in the two tests last year - AWOL from a lot of matches and in those he did turn up producing very little of substance.

 De Jong has been absolutely panths. If you look at the try that speight scored you will see that de Jong was completely out position. He offers nothing in getting his outside backs into space. Whee as if you look at sadie off load, he jinked in and out made the defense guess which left space for the wingers. De Jong always cut inside with ball under his arm. I honestly think that our best centre combination are ebersohm and sadie

Well I honestly disagree. And if you look at the Speight try....look again. You will see de Jongh has been involved before the move and is running behind the line to join up. He no sooner joins up, but Speight gets the ball and runs right against the tackled player, on the inside marker who happens to be Kitshoff. De Jongh desperately tries to get back across and fails. Could he have compensated for Kitshoff who got a hand on Speight....I suppose so. Was it a big negative. In fairness I don't think so.

Ebersohn and Sadie are the best pairing....only if tackling is optional.

The way De Jongh  plays - if you take what happned in games over the past two years - you will soon be able to write a 500 pages book  on excuses to justify/explain why the rugby disaster Juan de Jongh was better than he really was.

Mozart

I foresaw a disaster in the Brumbies game - but it was delayed by a week and the weaknesses I indicated was present in the Stormers team.  those were hushed up by thr fact that the forwards did a lot better against the Brumbies than they did against the injury-wrecked Crusaders.

However, this topic is not about forecasts of match results - it is about the role of the performance of Juan Scything Tackle De Jongh - the seriously defective player with no attacking ability and no ball sense

Minute 55.30 of the recording you will see a "scything" tackle by de Jongh. You will note he doesn't wait for the player to run onto him....he moves forward picking up 5 metres and levels the players decisively. Great tackling technique.

I trust that helps you Ou Maaik.

You call that tackle a scything tackle?  What is an ordinary tackle then?  The tackle is made - the  player is not tackled back at all - he falls forward and the ball comes back immediately from the ruck and the Crusaders proceed with their next move.   From all your rantings about the scything tackle - I expected tackling back of the Crusaders player and him losing possession - not exactly what happened.  A bog ordinary and rather ineffective tackle - the only tackles De Jongh is capable of.

You really looked for scraps when you are trying to support De Jongh - and then come up with an ineffective tackle to prove how good he is.   Juan Scything Tackle De Jongh is his name in future.   As bad a case as Earl Silky Hands Jantjies patronage by Saffex.
