Given what's happened so far;

F Steyn

Sergeal Petersen

Jean

De Allende

JP

Lambie

Pienaar

Beast

Strauss

Jannie

Elstadt

Etzebeth

Bekker

Louw

Vermeulen.

Apparently Goosen and Spies played well and could come into contention. But we need to see confirmation of that form.  Blindside flank is an issue, but Elstadt was big against the Chiefs. The rest is pretty clear.

Moz, Lambie was poor this week - Goosen and Jantjies were better. Pienaar was a flop on the EOYT, Jean is way out of his depth at 13, was poor there for the Boks and has carried that form into the S15. Frans will never play 15 for the Boks, he will play 12. We need to find a youngster for the 13 spot. de Alllende might be the answer, but JJ was good for the Bulls on Sun and Serfontein is worth considering given his talent.

Kolisi had a great game this weekend at 6 and Brussouw looked good in the 20 min he had on the field with one steal. Arno Botha is looking like a real Bok candidate - he has already made the Bok squad and if he carries on his form, he will crack the Bok side.

Agreed Elstadt had a great game, I told you he is one to look out for. He does not stand back for anyone and is physical enough to impose himself. Elstadt, Etzebeth and Bismark in a Bok pack would add plenty of grunt

Mozart

You apparently did not see the Cheetahs game - so you do not know what happened in that case.   The New Zealand commentators said that Labuschagne was awesome - same as he was in the previous games of the Cheetahs.

On that form he is a much better proposition than Elstadt is at present.   Elstadt was very good on Saturday - but having seen the games twice there is no way that he cannot be picked.   I lauged about the one remark by the commentator.   Labuschagne again - how many million times was he involved now.   Labuschagne was everywhere and he was outstanding in whatever he was doing.   I have never heard of this guy before - but from what I have seen is is most likely the new loosie ofthe Boks if he continues as at present.

Steyn was better than I have seen him for a long time.   He did miss two kicks at goal on Saturday and it was evident to keep the ball in hand and not kick it away - so there was more balls flowing to the backline.  However, Goosen had an excellent game on both attack and defence and I do believe he is nw ahead of Steyn in the selection stakes.

Jantjies was better than expected on Saturday - but I would still  like to see De Allende next two a good attacking flyhalf - he really was awesome on Saturday after a slow start to the series.   He did show some speed in two cases on Saturday - so I think you may be correct in his case.   By the way i saw him scoring two great tries in the CC last year - speed aplenty, a very strong runner and a very good defender.

Spies may be in contention for no 8 - he really had a great game against the Blues..

Dave.......Lambie wasn't poor....he was conservative. The other two flyhalves have had one decent game in three.  Jean is never out of his depth......you completely missed his 72 metres on Saturday, apparently. I agree he was disappointing last year at 13.....but with Jordaan's poor form, that begins to look more like a Fransie issue.

Fransie is not explosive....he hardly moves forward in the tackle....Jean does.

As for Kolisi he was better on Saturday.....but still held up with an open line because of poor body position. And look at the last Chiefs try. Kolisi comes out too quickly and straight.....allows the runner to move past him which creates an overlap. Any experienced tackler would have forced him inside, not outside. Kolisi is no Bok.

Elstadt , again, has had one good game out of three. There is nobody else putting up their hand, but I'm not happy with the choice.

Mike Labascagne is too small to be considered for the Boks at 7. The Boks always pick a brute at 7 and rightly so. At the moment Alberts has that spot at 118kg and Elstadt at the same weight looks the best to take over from Alberts.

Labascagne is a quality looking loosie, but where would you play him at 105kg......for he is not really a fetcher, so possibly an 8........but Vermeulen, Coetzee and Arno Botha are better

Saffex

Steyn is rapidly playing himself out of the Sharks team - so he definitely is a no-no.   Start forgetting about him - it will save you a lot of pressure problems.

Engelbrecht did the minimum on Saturday.

I was seriously impressed by Arno Bootha in his last two games.  He was by far the second best loosie of the SA teams this weekend.   Based on performance the situation was as follows:-

1.   Labuschagne

2    Botha.

3    Elstadt

4    Kolisi

Wrong Moz, Goosen has had three good games - his kicking was poor in the first one. Of the 3 games played todate, Goosen is easily ahead of Lambie in the Bok stakes. Lambie is doing himself no favours at all. His game on the weekend will have set his claim back.

Jean never made 72 metres from the 13 spot - where are these stats taken from as they make no sense at all? Jean has been far too inactive for a 13, no zip and clout as he is an old man now.

You cant blame Jordaan's poor form on Frans, I had my reservations about Jordaan and to date he has done little to change my view. He lacks physicality.

Frans always moves forward in the tackle, thats his strength, he is more adept to this than Jean is and at least looks to offload in contact. Frans has been our best 12 to date, but like the rest of his team mates this weekend, he was flat.

Disagree on Kolisi, he will not get everything right, but as good as Elstadt was, Kolisi was even better. Kolisi will definately be a Bok. He would be my Bok 6 right now, with Elstadt at 7

Saffex

You really specialize in bullshit - dont you?

Lets get back to the issue of weight and performance.   Coetzee weighs 106 kgs - same as Labuschagne, but he is good enough for selection at 7 - as you pointed out repeatedly in the past, by saying he is not a six - but a 7 or 8.   Then you come up with Kolisi who weighs 101 kgs - but is good enough to be a Springbok.  Kolisi never effected turnovers in possession - Labuschagne does.   Labuscagne made 20 more tackles in the game aganst the Highlanders than Kolisi or Botha did.   Now lets get to Arno Botha - he weighs in at 102 kgs - but he is fine.

You really are clueless about performances.   All knowledgable experts pick Labuschagne this week as the loosie of the week - but the blinkered one-eyed Saffex thinks otherwise - because he is too light for the job.   In the meantime all the other players he mentioned weigh less than Labuschagne dooes  or  have th same weight, but weight is given why he is not acceptable.  Bullshit really baffles brains here - you are a joke beyond comparison.

Lastly - wen are you going to accept that Franscois Steyn has done squat this year and was in fact the malfunctioning component of the Sharks backline?  Maybe this coming week already - because I think Plumtree may drop him this weekend from the starting line up because he was now putrid in three games in a row.

Look here you ignorant twit.......here is the Super 15 sides picked for week 2 and 3, I am not bothering with week 1 as that was an all Oz affair. The sides were selected by 6 rugby writers go check rugby365. They selected Frans at 12 in week 3, when in fact his best game was in week 2, but that was the week the Blues 12 was outstanding. This just confirms that I know what I am talking about when it comes to Frans and you do not. Read and weep you ignorant bafoon

Previous selections:

Team of the Week - Round Three:
15 Gareth Anscombe (Chiefs), 14 Frank Halai (Blues), 13 Rene Ranger (Blues), 12 Francois Steyn (Sharks), 11 Asaeli Tikoirotuma (Chiefs), 10 Chris Noakes (Blues), 9 Piri Weepu (Blues), 8 Kieran Read (Crusaders), 7 Luke Braid (Blues), 6 Liam Messam (Chiefs), 5 Brodie Retallick (Chiefs), 4 Rob Simmons (Reds), 3 Ben Afeaki (Chiefs), 2 Tatafu Polota-Nau (Waratahs), 1 Tendai Mtawarira (Sharks).

Team of the Week - Round Two: 15 Jesse Mogg (Brumbies), 14 Sergeal Petersen (Southern Kings), 13 Tim Nanai-Williams (Chiefs), 12 Francis Saili (Blues), 11 Hosea Gear (Highlanders), 10 Patrick Lambie (Sharks), 9 Piri Weepu (Blues), 8 Pierre Spies (Bulls), 7 Marcell Coetzee (Sharks), 6 Eddie Quirk (Reds), 5 Steven Sykes (Kings), 4 Craig Clarke (Chiefs), 3 Jannie du Plessis (Sharks), 2 Bandise Maku (Kings), 1 Tendai Mtawarira (Sharks)

Now lets get onto Kolisi who weighs 101kg and is an openside......perfect size for a 6. I have always said that Coetzee is not a 6 and that he should only be considered at 7 or 8. I have NEVER selected him at 7 for my Bok side, I have always selected him at 8. At 106kg he is a good size for an 8. Elstadt has always been my choice at 7 for the Boks.

My Bok trio has been 6. Kolisi 7. Elstatdt 8. Coetzee for some time. However, the way Arno Botha is playing, I'd be happy to see him at 8 as well and if I was Bok coach, I would have given CJ Stander a cap last year and retained him in the Bok picture. If Brussouw proves he is back then I'd be happy to see him at 6, much like I'd be happy to see Daniel at 6. So there we have it......I reckon our Bok 6 needs to around the 100kg mark, the 7 should be 110kg plus and the 8, 105kg plus. However, having said that, it does not mean that I would never select a lighter player at 7......so its not impossible to have a trio of 6. Kolisi 7. Coetzee 8. Botha.......but I do think we need one of our loosies to be a bruizer.......and Elstadt fits that role nicely. Get it?

Moffie, why would someone who by all accounts has only watched about half the Super Rugby games, give a summary of all the SA Super Rugby players and pontificate about whether they would make a Springbok side or not?

How pompous do you have to be to lecture people who've actually watched the games based on what you have gathered from match reports and stats?

Not just trying to stir, I'd really like to know!

Hell - you dont even get the rounds right - leave alone the players.    Round 1 was the round in which only four Aussie teams played.   Round 2 was the start for all teams.   Round three was 14 days ago and what was played the past weekend was Round 4.

Now really - in Round 2 Steyn was selected at 12 - but by whom?   He was average that game producing nothing and because the whole lot was rather average - he could have been selected.  In Round 3 - he was nowhere in sight and also not in Round 4.

Now lets get to the selection of the Round 4 team.  Let me quote it for you:-

15   Jesse Mogg                                 -    Brumbies

14   Kade Poki                                   -     Highlanders

13   Rene Ranger                              -     Blues

12    Christian Lealifano                    -      Brumbies

11    Julian Savea                             -      Hurricanes

10   Johan Goosen                           -      Cheetahs

  9   Sarel Pretorius                           -      Cheetahs

  8   Pierre Spies                               -      Bulls

7   Wimpie Van der Walt                 -      Kings

  6   Pieter Lanuschagne                  -      Cheetahs

  5   Andries Bekker                         -      Stormers

  4   Francois Uys                            -       Cheetahs

  3   Ben Afeaki                               -       Chiefs

  2.  Adriaan Strauss                        -       Cheetahs

  1   Ben Franks                              -        Hurricanes

The above selections makes some sense - yours do not have even the remotest collection with reality.   They picked 7 SA players of whom I had 5 in my selections.   That means that I was pretty near th mark insofar as SA players is concerned.   Can I quote what they said aboutr your new nemesis - Labuschagne:=

"Labuschagne's defensive effort was phenomenal, making 24 tackles, but unlike Van der Walt his game wasn't just about defence. He carried well, winning 50 metres and also won a crucial turnover".

In his game Botha made four tackles - now start working that one out slow thinker.

Thanks Moz got that.

Mike what part of me saying that I was not going to bother with round 1 as it only involved Oz sides do you not get?

I then go on to say that Frans was chosen at 12 in week 3, when in fact he was even better in week 2, but that in week 2 the Blues 12 was rightly selected. So Frans was selected as the best 12 in week 3 when his game was not as good as it was in week 2 - effectively I am saying Frans was damn good in week 2 and 3, get it dumbass?

I said nothing about week 4 as it had no relevance to Frans Steyn as he did not come close to making 12 of he week in week 4.

As for Labascagne, we were talking week 3 when Botha and Deysel made the Bok Barometer side. Labascagne rightly made the week 4 Rugby 365 side, he was damn good.

It is a little tiresome trying to debate with a dom kop - if you want me to paint pictures just say so.

Ah yeah dommike, I was going to draw your attention to the following on JJ, given your ignorance and the amout of crap you speak about him, Frans and Taute.....hell you had us believe Jordaan was the answer when its clear he has not produced the goods to date.........on JJ.....

'The Bulls scored three tries and could have had a few more. They played with enterprise and always looked dangerous on attack. The midfield of Wynand Olivier and JJ Englebrecht was strong but it was the strength in the contact that was decisive'

Saffex

You miss the point completely as per normal.   When it fits you stats and especially comments on players by scribes are just fine.   The week you love to quote Botha s the top loosie - his stats were as follows:-

 Carry balls forward     -        5

Tackles                       -         4

Line Outs                    -         3

In that same round the stats of Labuschagne was as follows:

Line Breaks                -            1

Carry balls                  -            5

Turnover balls            -            1

Tackles                       -           11

Line-outs                    -             3

The Bulls were playing the 2012 bottom of the log Forces team - the Cheetahs the Champions team of last year.   Any fool analysing the above stats would distiguish the difference in perfromances easily by purely using the mathematical skills of a ten-year old - Labuschagne made 1 line break more, i turnover more and 7 tackles more than Botha - so who was the better of the two?   Only the top dunce - the idiot of the week - the worst undestander of anything relating to rugby  - Saffex - could come up with rubbish like selection by scribes to the effect that Botha performed better than Labuschagne.

The next week the situation was as follows:-

Botha

Try Scored                       -       1

Turnover                          -       1

Carry balls forward          -       7

Tackles                            -       6

Line Outs                        -        1

Catching high balls         -         1

Penalties given away      -        1

Labuschagne

Try Assist                        -        1

Line Breaks                     -        1

Carry balls                      -         5

Turnover balls                -         1

Tackles                          -        22

Line-outs                        -         2

Lose possession            -         2

The stats on both players showed vast improvement - but the one on tackles made was a huge factor in the Cheetahs game was the real difference.   Making 22 tackles in a match is virtually unheard of on that level of rugby.   That is why the NZ commentators made Labuschagne the MOM for the game and not Poki who scored three tries for the Highlanders.    However taking the stats of both games into account - Labuschagne outplayed Botha by a wide margin,

I rate Botha highly - the ignorant Saffex does his normal - he totally ignore Labuschagne and then expect knowledgeable people to believe his tripe.

He carries on endlessly about Steyn who was mediocre in all three rounds thus far - his stats in all three games was way under par and the scribes did what they did in th Botha case  - he was selected in their weekly squad even though he malfunctioned.    Now suddenly because Steyn's failure was so obvious - he cottoned onto Engelbreacht who was solid in the Blues game and he became selective again.   He quoted the case of Olivier and Engelbrecht - but nothing about De Allende and De Villiers.   Anything to support his gross misunderstanding of performances is welcome - anything to the contrary is just ignored.

A dunce will always be a dunce - and Saffex is the Kings of Dunces.

I honestly cant believe some of the bullshit I read here. Since when MUST aplayer fit a weight category to make it. Fucksakes, are the boks now releasing position templates and you only need apply if you meet criteria.

I dont care if Labuschagne was 65kg's, if he can do what he is doing now to the class of players he is playing against and be as consistent as he is, then why must he weigh anymore than he does? Get over the obsession with weight! Look at the man's ability to dominate a game and what he is adding to his team. Thats how a man is selected. Coetzee is playing kak at the moment. Labuschagne is way better in the same number jersey!

Anyway, The Boks need guys like Alberts and them..Dont start listing Kolisi's, Elstadt's and Coetzee's. What about Alberts? What about Spies? Where you gona put these men? Alberts has been good for the Boks since he was selected and you wana give his position away.. Crazy man. Alberts is consistently good. These others you mention have peaks and troughs. Jean De Villiers is consistently good..JJ and Taute will have great games amongst kak games! You need to lose your hate for Jean and realise that he is our best centre. Frans Steyn is not showing any signs of being in the same league at the moment. I am watching the Stormers game as we speak and Jean has been really good!

boklogic

Do me a favour and have a look at the item I wrote about center performances and add your comments on that one.

Saffex always have a problem - he is absolutely hooked as to players he identified as potential Springboks and will overlook all other players - irrespective of performancesn in his quest to promote them.   He doesnot accept anybody else as potential candidates - even if the players he supports - like Steyn at 12 and Taute at 13 flop seriously inthe positions Saffex wants them to play.

He never identified Labuschagne previously and what happened in the last few games is upsetting his applecart and is best ignored.

My friend Saffex is indeed the KING OF DUNCES - so I suppose we must put up with his idocy insofar as performances is concerned.

The way he carries on about weight of players is really a joke.  If he is consistent it would have been a sign of something to be considered - but his weight principle does only apply if a player threatens some of the players he supports - for the rest it is a disqualification.  Somehat crazy - don't you think.

Boklogic the facts are simply small guys cant do the job and the exception only proves the rule. yes on ehas to be objective and assess what a player achieves but generally speaking 100 kg flankers do not cut it etc. here we have the SOLE exception of Deon Fourie.

To think we would give up our forward dominance and field kolisi and coetzee is laughable and shows zero appreciation of rugby dynamics. Im prepared to play Deon Fourie at 6 but that is it with small forwards. Foward domination is NON NEGOITIABLE.

Suggesting Kolisi at 6 now is crazy and then also Coetzee at 8 is lunacy. You could have a case if you said Louw at 6 Coetzee at 8 and vemulen at 8 etc.

Sorry two small loosies are generally not on.  We may get away with it when Bisse gets back and we are playing on the highveldt. However then its Fourie at 6 and Coetzee at 8 with a bruiser at 7 and then also by bringing on a second smallish loosie a san impacy player.  I would like to see that experiment at loftus but never at twicks etc. I ahve always beleive w e need to tweak our loose trio re conditions. Given how well the mobile Strauss is palying you coul d even weak your front row. Strauss on the fast highveldt grounds Bissie elsewhere.

I see Spies is playing a bit better. We shall see where this goes.

Now please rooitwit once again I ask you up your game. If you run out of fingers on your left hand to count with use your right hand. Clear on that?

Beeno

there are three issues attached to performance on international level - namely insofar as loosies is concerned -

*    weight of players

*    ball sense and skills of players

*    speed of players

A heavy player without the other two elements in evidemce is worse than a lighter player with both the two elements.   You mention Fourie - he is a real example of a lighter player with ball sense and speed, but there are others as well.    I would say that in order of proven performance - these others are Labuschagne, Botha and Coetee (the latter being out of form lately).

Where I do agree with you is that on slower fields - like those in Europe speed is not really a factor and heavier players could make the grade.  However, against New Zealand,   Australia and even locally speed and ball sense is much more important.

In the final analysis a heavier player without ball sense is an impediment - take or instance Steyn as a center.   One of the heaviest 12's around - but also one of the most useless ones in Super 15.

Boglog is so out of touch with the modern game that he does not realise that size plays a massive part of the modern test arena.

Well unless he can of course find us a blindside flanker weighing less than 105kg playing test rugby at the moment, I am more than happy to concede.

Problem is this twit is too stupid to realise how thick he comes across.

Get this into your head Stringbean.........saying an openside should be around the 100kg mark is a guide based on the standard at test level, same can be said of the blindside at 110kg.......its not a hard and fast rule, its just the reality of the modern game.

Much like you dont find centres weighing less than 90kg's playing test match rugby today - get it dumbass

RooiAAAS the time you edited your mistake is when that change appeared on the Board.  One, two three....er .....five. Given that performance one has to wonder whether  somebody has actually taught you to count time yet. I mean,  the number of times we will have played Samoa,  was the whole point of your post, and you couldn't even count to five to get that right. Thick as a brick!
