Just heard the news that my mate Peter Engledow is off to act as head coach of Griquas for the Vodacom Cup next season while new Griquas head coach Hawie Fourie acts as assistant coach for the Cheetahs in next years S15.

I am so gutted to see Pete going, he has made his mark with my sons school side but has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime and after over 10 years here in England, he is returning home.

The boys are still to hear the news that their treasured coach is leaving for greener pastures having just coached them to victory in the school's annual rugby festival, the most prestigious schools rugby festival in the UK. They were unbeaten in 7 games.

Pete will be the Griquas assistant coach in next years CC. We have had many braai's at mine and often put the rugby world to right......what a great guy and what an opportunity........but a sad, sad loss to those that know him here. Zelda, his wife will be happy they are going home, she has been homesick of late given they have two small boys and no other family out here.

I have told him I expect a call in a few years once he has made his mark......Saffex and Pete to coach the Boks......watch this space!!!!!!

Bad news for Griquas. Selection headaches coming Pete's way. How is he ever going to accommodate a 250 player squad. Fielding calls everyday from Dave to let him know of a new youngster that is worth playing because he slipped a tackle playing on the beach with his friends.

Word of advice Pete..Dont give this clown your number!

Griquas name new coach

New Griquas boss: Hawies Fourie

Free State Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie has been appointed as Griquas' new head coach for the 2014 season.

Fourie put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Kimberley-based union and will replace Pote Human, who moves to a position as head of coaching at Pretoria University next year.

The 45-year-old will remain with the Cheetahs until the conclusion of the Currie Cup tournament, joining up with the Griquas on November 1.

Despite the switch, Fourie will continue as Cheetahs assistant coach for the Super Rugby competition, and has thus appointed Peter Engledow as development coach from the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

As such, with Fourie's absence thanks to Super Rugby duties, South African-born Engledow will assume the role of Griquas head coach for the Vodacom Cup next season.

"It is a great honour for me to be appointed as Griquas' coach," said Fourie.

"I have always wanted to again be head coach at a union and now I get the chance after six years of rugby with the Cheetahs.

"I will still be actively involved in the Cheetahs Super Rugby campaign and will therefore trust in Peter Engledow and Pieter Bergh to take the reins in my absence.

"During the Vodacom Cup, I will, however, pop in every now and again to see how things progress."

Fourie's awareness and understanding of Super Rugby comes as a big plus for the Griquas, as he will be well-placed to judge which of the side's players are good enough to make the step up.

This could see more of Griquas' players featuring in Super Rugby next season.

"Our main goal is to make the Cheetahs Super Rugby side an even stronger unit," added Fourie.

"We've had quality players like Willie le Roux, Lourens Adriaanse, Rynhard Landman and Ryno Barnes that have played Super Rugby for the Cheetahs this year.

"We look to get even more players from Griquas involved because it is good to have depth in certain positions."

Griquas CEO Arnie van Rooyen is pleased with Fourie's appointment, and is thrilled that the vacancy left by Human's departure was filled so swiftly.

"We are very happy that Hawies Fourie has decided to accept an offer to coach Griquas," Van Rooyen said.

"This is another positive step, not only for us, but also for the Cheetahs Super Rugby team.

"We as unions must work together to ensure that we put out the best side. That being said, we are glad that we could obtain a coach of Hawies' calibre, specially focusing on next year's Currie Cup."

 Saffex a few questions:
1). I thought you said that you were the coach of your Sons team? You have previously stated that you follow your son each school year to coach the next years team
2.)If the boys are still to hear that their coach is leaving them, why has this article being in the media for over 2 weeks? How is it possibale that no one would have heard  this announcement.

3. )If you were involved in the coaching squad in any capacity, how did you just hear over 2 weeks after the official announcement in the media?
4.)If you know this guy as a friend  how did you just hear 2 weeks after the formal announcement

5. )Planet Rugby.co.uk is an English rugby website that is perhaps the biggest online media for English rugby, it would seem prudent to announce to the players before or at least at the same time, otherwise as avid rugby players they would probably see this for themselves in the media? ----re:

Yeah have just seen it.......Pete has not been allowed to say anything as he is leaving mid season here, I only heard this evening and no-one at the school knows other than the headmaster and director of sport.

He is big mates with Hawie Fourie and when Hawie was appointed Griquas head, I jokingly said to Pete he should ask Hawie for a job.......I now know why he never really responded.

Its been so good having him around and I am gutted he is leaving, they fly on Tuesday, its madness, he is running around trying to sell his car, dishwasher the works

Twatbok......I coach my sons club side.......not school side.

Pete told me today that he gave notice a month ago, but only the headmaster and director of sport knew about it. Pete had a rugby festival to prepare for with a very talented squad, last thing they needed was to hear that their coach was leaving.

Twatbok catch a wake up, do you really think people living in Suffolk would give a toss about Hawie Fourie and Griquas rugby, why on earth would they conduct the same search you have just done.......living here in Suffolk. I doubt anyone here has ever heard the term 'Griquas'.

He was sworn to secrecy, I understand the headmaster is pissed off he is leaving as Pete is a housemaster of one of the boarding homes as well. So he has not told anyone until today

Hope this helps you fucking waste of space?

Saffex type in "Peter Engledow rugby" (This is what I searched on, nothing else)
The first listing in Google is  planetrugby.com which is an English website- It was announced in England over 2 weeks ago.
He has not told anyone, except the main English Rugby website. A formal announcement is made to the English Media, but no one bothered to tell the students, or their old waterboy.
If it has been published as a story on Planet-Rugby.com, then it can be safe to assume that it has been republished in other media.
I am guessing that the students know how to read, and that they follow media publications such as the number one rugby website in England.

Twatbok what point are you actually trying to make?

What are you on about regarding a formal announcement, what utter crap.

Are you saying Pete made a formal announcement that he is leaving St Jo's?

Why would any parent or pupil of the school do a web search of their coach in the past month or so and if by some miracle they had then yes, Pete's secret would no longer have been just that.

What point are you trying to make you stupid man and what on earth do you think I have to gain from speaking crap about a mate of mine, you really are a fucking waste of space......but get to the point?

Please Dave, just let him do his job. Dont try and force your son or any youngster who made a break on the weekend into his suitcase.

He can not have a 250 strong squad with the average age being 20!

It does come across as an attempt at humour but get this Dave, this is an actual bloggers way of thinking. You must see some of the shit this fool comes up with. He is delusional. At first we all thought he was giving us a laugh but it quickly became apparent that he was dead serious. Its actually mind boggling now.

His username is "Saffex." You may know him!

CC, the kid would likely be a back as he kicks for goal (although needing help to get the distance from the 22) which is probably why Dave is such an anti-Morne campaigner. In his mind, Morne is the only person standing in the way of his son and Bok honours. It has nothing to do with those pie wrappers under the mattress. Cadbury top decks are not protein bars Dave. The little critter has fooled you long enough!
He is starting to stress now as his son will soon be 16 so, in the life of a rugby player according to Saffex, he is in his prime and will soon be "past it" as he loves to say.
This new Griquas coach and "best" friend of his was "sworn to secrecy" but still could not confide in his best mate whom he should trust with his life so they could prepare for a long distance friendship and possibly have a final get together before he departs. Dave had to find out through the papers 2 weeks after the deal was done with his best mate sitting at the airport.. He's a lunatic.

Planet Rugby might well be pretty damn popular over here but you have to look for your Regions and that didn't make the front page, I don't think !!! It's HC Season over here, so that, and the wrangling over the breakaway comp is tending to be the more important news for us all !!!!

That' s good news for him, Saffex. I hope he does well and gets that job at the Springboks However, I thought you were staying here and Coaching England now

Although I am sure you must have found a list of players that have just finished school and forwarded on the top 2000 as recommendations to be apart of Pete's 30 man squad.
"Here Pete" do you remember me? It is Saffex. I once spoke to you on the touchline and offered advice about rugby. It was at my sons school. I sometimes ran along the touchline with water at half time. I offered to knit you a scarf once when it was a cold day.
Well, after extensive research I have found the players to watch, these should all be playing SuperXV by next year.
Pete, you will need to sign them all or it will be  your fault if any retire, are just to shit to make it at senior level, go oveseas or get injured.

NASA called the Ruckers Forum earlier.
Apparently they are looking for a coach to play the Mars XV. They have heard all about Saffex and how he is much better than all the coaches in South Africa as a manager and selector.
What they particularly liked is how one of Saffex favourites can do no wrong. Like if they miss a routine tackle it is the player on the insides fault. Or if they cant scrum it is the referees fault, or the wings fault.
Hell if the whole team is chosen by Saffex it will be impossibale for anyone to make a mistake.

There will be no call - I have no desire to ever return to SA or coach full time - but having said that, I should have taken the step as it would not take much to improve on the crap our national coaches keep dishing out.

Imagine being given the talent SA has at its disposal and then going on to select a bunch of washed up hasbeens, ignoring most of the exciting talent we have and then instructing those geriatrics to play it tight with no attacking imagination at all and better still instructing them to kick the shit out of the ball.
