It does not help that he has also been injured quite a lot and in that time Wiese has been the regular 8 post Vermeulen
Agreed he is better equipped to play a linking role but also physical enough to crash it up - not as effectively as Wiese but still pretty effective
But ultimately he is not going to create waves carrying in contact, he would make more of an impression out wide
But he looks to get himself into position to play it both narrow and wider so things will happen for him
I do like that he has matured and realised that all that chest beating off the ball stuff served him no favours, he is also on record saying that post his last stint with the Boks he has learnt to relax about his game and not beat himself up about things
Unfortunately when he did get his chance to play for the Boks he played carrying injuries - not ideal but the trademark of a player desperate to take his chances at the highest level
He is too talented and physically equipped not make a name for himself. Injuries, Vermeulen, COVID are all reasons he is 25 and not cemented a Bok spot. We will see the same happen to the gifted Hanekom who is only 2 years younger.
Wiese is Rassie’s favourite, you won’t see Roos or Hanekom dislodge him in a hurry. Personally I prefer both over Wiese who has his physical merits but I prefer ball playing 8’s like Roos and Hanekom
