On current form you have to say England are favourites given the manner in which they beat Oz and NZ. They are also playing a good brand of rugby. Their starting side is made up of tight forwards who are comfortable with ball in hand and it shows with the interplay between backs and forwards. England mix it up well, they set up phases and look to attack using decoys, good lines and wrap arounds to create space. The 10/12 axis have played together since their school days and the back 3 are dangerous. The Boks have the players to beat England without a shadow of a doubt, there are not many Bok players I’d swap out for England ones. But the Boks are playing an ugly game and it worked against a Jap side that lacked physicality and we snuck past an out of form Welsh side. England are a different kettle of fish, they look to be peaking with their emphatic win over Oz and a very commanding display against NZ. I can’t recall seeing a NZ side never looking like they were in the game as was the case against England. I can’t help but think that if we adopt the same aerial game plan against England we will lose. Handing balls back to their back 3 is a dangerous ploy unless we actually compete in the air instead of the standing around watching that has happened to date. I hope Rassie has something different up his sleeve. The Boks have not peaked, we are due that game where everything clicks, something that has happened for England in their last two games. So let’s hope for our perfect game this Saturday, where current form is of no consequence. Come on our beloved Boks

Nice post Dave, but unfortunately, I don't think Rassie has another game plan to fall back on. It's going to be kick and hope again. That is pretty much all we've done the whole tournament and it's what we'll do again in the final.
What gets me is on those very few occasions we actually ran it against Wales we looked capable of scoring tries . . . but the orders came down and we didn't try it again.
I don't think Rassie is going to try anything different and that's why I just can't see us winning it . . . but I'm hoping for a miracle . . . whether that miracle is us bringing out a different game plan or the existing game plan working well enough to beat a side like this 2019 England team.
Go Bokke!

This is by far the most sensible and insightful rugby post I have ever seen from you. But you are overly optimistic about our ability to play a more complete game. Rassie has boxed himself in through sheer stubbornness. Something of a Straeuli as a selector and tactician.

Agreed Rooi that is what is so frustrating we have the team to play it wide and let’s hope we see some of that against England I don’t want to see our backs defaulting to the bloody boot each time I’m happy to win it ugly but I just can’t see it happening. England have more to offer than to just receive possession and die with it. We need to use our possession constructively not hand it to England on a plate

You need to keep it tight, use your biggest stregnth which is the forwards. Kick the ball like you have and you are right royally fucked.

I would like to see the Boks do more up and under from Pollard, as well as grubbers instead of these 5-metre box kicks. Just mix things up some more and play of the 10 more, than just from 9. On the bright side at least Kolbe is back so we will be more competitive in the air.

Habana and JP were both excellent under the high ball, so the box kick was a great tactic then- especially with FDP who could do them in his sleep.

Unfortunately, most of us are better than Faff at box kicks, and Willie Leroux is now a shadow of his former self in the air.

Maybe Rassie will spring a surprise and name Frans Steyn to start. He would give the Boks another dimension from the back.

The Boks have the best lineout in the competition, and maybe the best scrum- so a territory kicking game could work well, if Frans Steyn could pin England back into their own half for most of the game. Then it just a case of forcing England into conceding more penalties, and kicking for poles or lineout drives.

If the Boks get some quality front-foot ball, then going wide is an option. The Boks showed in the 4 nations this year, they can play an expansive game.

The Boks are in the final, they have done just enough to be in the final...they might have a small surprise  in the bag...They have next level Jedi/Ninja defense...and they have Kolbe-Airbender. The Poms will have to earn it...and they think they are world beaters because they beat a complacent Allblack side. Allmost half the pom side plays for Sarries...OK, not half, but more than half of the good ones...so does Vincent...we've got inside info! POMS ARE GOING DOOOWNNN!!!

GO BOKKE!!!

Mannetjies Roux still fresh in my mind how he demolished Sharp at Loftus.

What a tackle.
