New Backline Players Review

Damian Willemse. A skilful and intelligent player. Most of all he seems to be able to make the right decision under pressure. It is obvious that he considers options, and runs with the ball in both hands so he asks questions on the attack. He is getting lots of game time at both 15 and 10. His only possible major weakness at this stage is going to be against backs that are 110KG plus. He must be a certainty for the EOYT. 

Curmit Bosch. There is a danger that he could become a Senatala of 15 man rugby. He may need to go on the same diet as Frans Steyn and Ricky Januarie to pick up some extra weight. He does have some unique attributes especially his kicking. He is good on the attack ball in hand- but his defence is dismal. He stands on the side next to the cheerleaders whenever the opposition has a lineout or scrum. Questions are if he can Marshall the backline on the attack. I expect he will miss the EOYT- 

GelantAn all-around player. Perhaps more suited to outside centre where he can use his playmaking and finishing skills.He should make the EOYT
AM has gone AWOL after a strong start to the season. Probably a better option than Jessica Kriel

Missed by the Sharks in the latter stages of the Curry Cup. Should get his opportunity on the EOYT, as it appears he just has a short-term injury . Would have been good if he could have finished the Curry Cup and not injured before the tour. 
Robert Dupreez. He has games ranging from poor to great. Solid in the curry cup and good for the Barbarians last year. Seems a bit injury prone. Looks a bit awkward when getting tackled and falls on himself. He plays similar to a Henry Honniball flat on the advantage line.Might get a call-up.

In the Under 20WC this year Bosch was poor and Willemse - playing at 12 - was a much better player.  He is being played at 15 and 10 by the Stormers.   What is significant is that WP is letting Robert du Preez go next year and is putting their money on Willemse and Jean-Luc du Plessis as their choice for the flyhlf position for the Stormers.
As stated earlier I think that Bosch is likely to be used as full back for the Sharks.   He is physically just too small to be an effective flyhalf.   I think his future is more likely like that of McKenzie for the AB's.    
Am has always been over-rated by some - there is a hand-full of better 13's than him in SA.
I am not sure about Du Preez either - but he is 10 times the player Coetzee used as flyhalf back-up in June (Fat Fransie).   I am still not happy that Pollard has had sufficient game time to prove himself in actual games.    However, I think that Pollard will be a shoo-in into the squad purely on reputation.   However, talking of defense -  Pollard had an atrocious defensive record for the Springbok team - he competed with Morne insofar as missed tackles and the misse d tackle ratio is concerned and that was when he was in top form.         

 
Soooo ... we now want to move a perfectly talented 15 to centre.

Does SharkSh!t's stupidity ever stop?

 Huw Jones who is close to 100 kg was the best center on display and we are sending him off to Scotland. He never got a chance really at the Stormers as that complete dud De Jongh, who never learnt to pass, was always being selected.

Jones came to Cape Town from Scotland to take a course at UCT and met a girl he fell for and as she was not prepared to go to Scotland so he stayed on.  
He si going to play for Glasgow and in this case money talks.  
Coetzee was crazy to pick De Jongh ahead of him to play for the Stormers and if one looks at the Springbok squad the madness is persisting.

John Mitchell is considering transforming Gelant into an outside centre because of his playmaking ability, and to get him more involved in the game. Gelant has the feet and passing game to be the complete package at outside centre. Pace to take the gap, or the brain to organise the attack.
