Starting this Saturday keep an eye out for a new tactic that i noticed happening last year.
Defender makes a tackle. Despite the tackle being successful, he does his best to end up on top of the ball carrier, even rolling onto him during the tackle, then rolling off of him much more slowly. It prevents the ball carrier from positioning to place the ball.
It's more effective than quickly releasing, creating day light and then challening for the ball. It keeps the attacker in a poor position for longer making it easier for the first supporting defensive player to challenge for the ball and also easier for the defending team to ruck over the ball.
It happens much earlier in the engagement than what is normally termed "not rolling away", so it doesnt get penalised.
Not rolling away is penalised only once the ruck is formed and the tackler has failed to move from behind the ruck.
The new cheat buys a simialr amount of time, creates better chances for a turnover and is not as obvious as infringing behind the ruck.
