Good news about Goosen - and I hope he plays again soon. According to his message to Quade Cooper that was likely to be by the beginninh of October.
There is virtually no chance that Francois Steyn will play any rugby this year. In a few weeks time the CC will be over and the EOYT squad will be selected. Meyer - always a fool - may even hesitate to take a player on the EOYT despite a poor Super 15 season and not playing any rugby for more than 6 months - but with Meyer nobody ever know what to really expect - he may just take him on tour, regardless of anything. After all performance means nothing in his book,

We shall see in Super 15 next year who belongs and who does not. If Francois Steyn cannot get his weight under control and is as fat as he was after his return from France - and his speed is down as it was during the said period - he definitely does not belong and should go farming. Question is - does he suffer from "vetsig"?
I hope Taute gets back and play a full Super 15 season next year - we need him at full back and he was good when he played for the Lions in that position. With Catrakillis back for the Stormers - they would not need to keep Taute out because they need a reliable goal kicker - Taute should get ample playing time.
I like Arno Botha and share your opinion of him
Hougaard????????????????????????????

With regard to Francois Steyn - he should get his playing weight down to 105-106 kgs and should work on his speed - if those two factors are dealt with - I have no problem with him in the squad. However, I will have problems with him at 10 and 12 - he is to much inclined to be slow in assessment and when he had a few games at 10, he flopped badly. Maybe 13 and 15 - but not the other two positions.

Gosh you chaps confuse me. Dave I could swear a week ago you were picking Taute at 15, and earlier this year you were saying Fransie is too slow for 15, but was exactly what we needed at 12. Now you want Fransie to replace Kirchner at 15 and only be a bench option at 12.. Don't tell me Taute is back to being your 13 again, or has his performance over the last two weeks changed things....bad moves in the rehabilitation center?
-
And Oom you now want to play Fransie at bwahahahahahahaha 13....a position that calls for both acceleration and flat out pace. Do you know how stupid that sounds? But not quite as stupid as your notion that with the Kat back, Taute is a lock at 15 for the Stormers....that bumbling inept kid that lost the test for us last year?
-
Here are the facts. Fransie has serious issues with his rugby health and with his best role. He may never sort them out. Taute is the new Ludik, but not as good. Hougaard is unrecognizable as the young talented player of 2011....and he has no clue how to play scrummie at S15 level....let alone test level.

I would add, this Goosen thing is also looking very wobbly. Rugby is tough way to make a living. These guys are out there being battered for 35 weeks a year. You have to find a way of dealing with that ....a few flashes of brilliance wont cut it.....you earn your bread every week and have to find a way to stay healthy. I'm not sure Goosen can do that.
-
Fantasies are too costly....the real work in the Bok team is still being done by Jean, Habana, Morne, the Beast, Etzebeth, Louw and Vermeulen. The new guys have to prove they can contribute. In spite their chances JJ, Serfontein, Jantjies, Goosen, Taute, Coenie, Coetzee, Kolisi, Mvovo, van Zyl and Adriaanse have not made the case. I am expecting that Serfontein and ultimately Stephanie will and hoping the fragile Goosen can gain some durability.....I don't hold much hope for the others. Tough but you can't create successing by wishing for it.

I do not get your point here - I had serious reservations about Francois Steyn and expressed them clearly. I went on to say that he and Taute must show their real worth in Super 15 next year and prove that they belong. I further went on to say that I do not see Francois Steyn as a cover for 10 and 12 - and gave my reasons for that. If he was to cover anything trhe only positions he can cover coming from the bench may be 13 and 15.
What has Morne Steyn et al to do with the point under discussion here? Maybe the Goosen issue is the link here. Morne caved in under pressure in close matches - like he did with his aimless kicking and ineffective passing game in both the Super 15 semi - where his one clueless kick resulted in the Brumbies scoring the winning try - and at Eden Park last weekend. I do not expect much from him in the next two tests - bar another collapse in performance in the Johannesburg test next week. Anyone who do not see that he is a poor pivot with no BMT and no ball sense - must have his head read and eyes tested..
