Nigel Owens was a disaster....most biased blowing since Bryce Lawrence

This guy penalized Jannie for losing his bind when the Pom loosehead had lost his first,  fallen and was lying on the deck. Another time he pinged us for wheeling when the overhead shot showed the Pom loosehead swinging out and literaly driving across the scrum.  He single handedly made Jannie a basket case. Steenkamp fortunately was pretty solid.

Half the allowed Pom lineout throws looked skew. The knocks he picked up were mostly from the assistants. Any time the Boks did something in the last 20 minutes he seemed to blow them up. He even managed to find a mythical no arms tackle in a crucial passage near the end. Then he threatened Louw with a yellow on a very dubious call, when he had gotten  up on his feet.

The Tuilangi interception probably came from an offside position at the ruck.....I think he was over the line before the ball was passed. Bok catchers of the up and unders were pushed back off the ball by players who weren't even looking to make the catch.

This self righteous little school master was worth ten points to the Poms.

And the stats are consistent. Eighteen penalties given to the Poms....nine to the Boks. The guys that turn in these reffing shockers, aren't the regular guys, who may miss a call but aren't biased from the outset....they are mostly these tin pot dictator types. Of which breed, Owens is a classic example.

I don't like judging a referee by the number of penalties that each team receives. Having said that, Owens had a crap game today. He made mistakes all over. We were lucky with a few decisions as well. We were off-side at the rucks a number of times and a few dodgy passes by England were missed as well. His worst though, came at scrum time. He kept on pinging Jannie, while the one scrumming in was actually Corbesiera. The AR was out off touch as well. It was actually Ben Youngs who first started the crap which ended up with Etzebeth being penalised. Youngs was the first to shove Etzebeth in his face. The AR reported that it was Eben.

I agree with you about all the cases you mentioned.   I don't know how he could qualify as an international referee.   if he cannot read a game and understand what is happening right in front of his eyes.   Bryce Lawrence was kicked off the panel - why not this idiot?

It's a close thing but to me Tuilagi never really retreats behind the offside line, moves laterally and then foward before the ball emerges. Another way of looking at this is how often do you see a flat pass from the base of the ruck intercepted? I can't recall this ever happening in internationals.

if u look at on the IRB website, u will see that bryce lawerence was kicked of international duties because he refused to ref games in SA, making himself unavailable for reffing duties in SA is the official reason for his dismissal.

IMO owens was just incompetent, but he normally reffs a decent game and maybe this was just a real bad performance, after all he is human and as Boks supporters, u should be more then understanding about people delivering bad peformances??? LMAO, :oD

Sasuke, I do not blame a ref for a loss, or a near loss for that matter. In fact, I have been accused of covering for Bryce Lawrence when I said that he had a poor game in the RWC. I said that he had a bad day at the office,at the time. Now as for this test in particular, Owens had a crap game, and his AR's were not much better either. Glen Jackson has come in leaps and bounds but even he did seem to be off the boil as well. There were crappy decissions both ways. Owens did get the scrums wrong. I do not normally listen to the opinions by commentators, but in this case, they actually provided the visuals and footage to explain where he went wrong.

He also, at one stage, penalised Jannie Du Plessis for having his hand on the deck, while it was clear for the whole world to see that it was actually Corbesiero's hand that was on the deck. He once penalised Du Plessis for loosing his bind and the reply clearly showed that he held his bind even after the scrum has gione down and Corbesiero was already lying almost flat on his stomach with his forarm under his body.

Having said that, SA also got away with some dodgy decissions in their favour. They were off-side at the rucks, and not behind the last line of feet (Vermeulen being the main culprit a number of times, and were not penalised.

All in all a poor showing by the match officials.
