Wow I don't know about you guys but man am I glad that the rabbit in the headlights that is Elton Jantjies is not in the squad.Yeah he is ok...lol dont get me wrong. But he is not Springbok quality. With Morne kicking well I can see that we can have a really good year this year.Yeah not the best attacker but he does the basics right lets agree on that. And he tackles!!You cant take that away from him. The new comers and the most exciting has to be Le Roux.Oh how badly I hope he runs out wearing the number 15 jersey. The sad story about selection is the exclusion of Brussouw and Bekker.Dont know what happened there. In my humble oppinion I dont think Marcel Coetzee is better then Brussouw so Hyneke if your reading the answer to your question of in who's place he can be picked...well in my book it is Coetzee.

Agree, on current form he didnt deserver to be there...

But i'd much rather party for positive reasons... like the inclusions of Jan, Englebrecht and Willy.

So lets not party over the demise of someone... but rather over the rise of the 3 newbies..

Morne is not quality either. He been hiding behind Fourie Du Preez and when FdP left Morne was exposed. Hence why it looked he is out of form.

He stands too deep as well. We are so screwed

Spooony I am also worried about Morne Steyn - he really is one-dimensional and his only real asset is his kicking at goal. He did not stand as deep in the pocket this year than he did previously - but what is going o happen in the forthcoming tests. Take for instance the game on Saturday as per the ESPN stats - which indiated as follows:- Steyn 0/0 15 12/20/9 14 0 0 1 0 4/1 0/0 0 0/0 He handled the ball 41 times and actually passed the ball less than 50% - kicking away the ball circa 30% of the time - mostly aimlessly. Not my kind of flyhalf - that is why I still prefer Lambie for the job. Without his kicking at goal he is effectively a non-factor and that remains the case in tests. Would like to see how Serfontein performs outide a flyhalf like Goosen. That would be a very interesting scenario.

Mike and Spoon, you carry on about Morne, please tell me, who would you replace him with??? Lambie has done jack shit this season. Jantjes, has had maybe two decent games. Katrakilis, done better than expected, but is nowhere near being a Bok. Please remember this is test rugby, which is generally NOT open running rugby. Probably about 70% of a Flyhalf's game at test level is tactical kicking, kicking out of hand and kicking at goal. We all know that Morne is not the best running flyhalf in the world, but how much of a part does that play in a modern test match? Having said that, he is not completely useless in this area, he is adequate. He used to be a very weak defender, a label he still carries, but his defence has improved massively and is no longer an issue. No I don't think Steyn is the best flyhalf in the world, but he IS the form flyhalf in South Africa and his strong points are those that are needed in tests. Also, at the Bulls this season he has been playing behind a pack that is often on the back foot, and that never makes a flyhalf look good. Lastly and most importantly, there is NOBODY to replace him!

Bluebok

I think that Mone's accuracy in kicking at goal is back in evidence.   However, that can collapse again 0 especially under stressful test conditions.   What worries me though is his strategic kicking - some of which even now leads to problems for his team.   It is far from accurate enough and opens up attacking opportunties for opposing teams.

Howevr, I also believe that Lambie was not really anything better than Steyn in attacking rugby this year.  Lamie is lsightly better than Morne in strategic kicking though.   Morne's kicks are generally too far to be followed up properly and often leads to loss of territory and passing of possession to the opposition - whilst Lambie's kicking lends it to follow up and retention of possession.

I amnot impressd by either of them - so I am thinking of the future rather than the present.  Steyn is leaving for france this year and is to my mind out of SA Rugby in future - so the option is Lambie and the hope is for the full recovery of Goosen and his return asap.

On Goosen we can agree. I see your point regarding the future with Morne leaving etc. I am just not sold on Lambie.
