Norton Excited for Bordeaux Rugby Clash

Lock Riley Norton describes the upcoming clash between his team, the Stormers, and Bordeaux Bègles as a significant opportunity to measure their strength against formidable opponents. The Stormers are gearing up for their Investec Champions Cup journey, starting with a home game against the Bristol Bears on October 17, followed by a challenging away match against the reigning champions Bordeaux on December 13.

"Bordeaux away is going to be special," Norton shared during the Champions Cup season launch in Lyon. "They're an unbelievable team, and it's a chance to test ourselves against the best."

"It's a hostile environment, and one the whole team is really looking forward to. It’s why we play rugby – for games like that."

The Stormers' schedule also includes a visit to Gloucester and a home game against Racing 92 in the pool stages. Meanwhile, Bordeaux prop Ben Tameifuna, integral to the French team’s recent success, emphasized the Champions Cup's intensity, likening it to international play. Tameifuna, who has experience in Super Rugby, Top 14, and the Champions Cup, praised the high standards of the competition.

"It's pretty much a Test match but in club colours. What better way to test yourself than playing against the best in the world."

The Tongan international added that the atmosphere in Bordeaux transforms during the Champions Cup, highlighting the local community's passion for the tournament. In related views, Bristol's Viliame Mata anticipates a test-match vibe right from the start, noting the unique intensity of playing away games. Similarly, Saracens' Andy Onyeama-Christie pointed out the historic rivalries and the inclusion of South African teams as elements that uniquely set the Champions Cup apart from other tournaments.

This blend of high expectations and competitive spirit sets the scene for what promises to be an exhilarating series of matches in this year's Champions Cup.
