RV denies Schofield bid to become senior rider
Racing Victoria has denied Chad Schofield's application to join the senior riding ranks in the new season.
Schofield has won apprentice premierships in both Sydney and Melbourne in the process achieving every apprentice's goal of outriding his claim before the end of his indentures.
The son of Sydney-based hoop Glyn Schofield applied to end his apprenticeship in late June before the matter was discussed at an RV Licensing Committee meeting on Friday.
The committee informed the 19-year-old that he must complete the final 12 months of his apprenticeship with champion trainer David Hayes despite the fact he would ride without a claim for the 2013/14 season.
The RV Licensing Committee's decision forced a correction from the governing body's official publication Inside Racing, which reported Schofield would be a senior rider next season.
Schofield missed more than 120 meetings through suspension in the 2012/13 season.
Stewards banned the youngster for 27 meetings for improper riding at Caulfield on April 1 while he served nine careless riding suspensions this season.
However, Schofield finished fifth in the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with 41 winners in the city while he has booted home 70 winners overall in Victoria this season.
