We have ourselves to blame for not selecting a physically imposing pack but that comes with the unwritten rule that only players knowing the system and calls generally get elevated to the starting 15 when incumbents are not available. The WC had us work out that Mostert should never start and yesterday confirmed that - he was a complete non entity. But unfortunately with RG out and Lood short on game time, Mostert was the only one left knowing the system and into the starting line up he went. Same applies to Kwagga. As predicted he was a complete physical liability. Had some good moments but generally got monstered in traffic being driven backwards given the Lions the ascendancy. That would never happen to a Vermeulen type 8. Unfortunately Kwagga was the only WC squad member knowing the system to fill the vacancy left by Vermeulen. Wiese made some good impressions and was a far better fit but he will not yet be totally comfortable with the system. The only non system player included was Ox Nche to replace the Beast, realistically Kitshoff should have started but politics will have accounted for that. The most disappointing aspect for me was the less than emphatic impact our much vaunted bench frontrow made. Malherbe clearly was not ready after the Covid stint. A game of margins - we won the aerial battle in the first half, the Lions the second half. If we want to win this series start by ditching powder puff Mostert and Kwagga and get some real men on board.

Kwagga was excellent in terms of strength. Where was the might Lood? Splatball was all he had to offer. Mostert was fine, and shone more when the Boks were under pressure in the second half.

Kitshoff was not better than Nche, much to my surprise and Malherbe struggled more than Trevor. Marx was the only bench option that worked. We had a predictably weak bench.

The only trouble is Organhuffer you thought Kitshoff and Malherbe would do a great job. They were bench players as was Marx. So three of the five Bok forward on the bench were good NOT weak in your opinion.

Kwagga was a disaster. Great heart but man was the difference between him and a Vermuelen ever underlined!

Give me a fit Snyman or Lood before Mostert.

To me it was the very surprisingly poor showing of our bench front row that cost us dear. I expected a dominant scrum and probably underestimated the Malherbe layoff.

Our starting front row looked far better in the scrum and out the scrum. They played with a lot more intensity. All this came as a surprise to me.

Agreed Beenkop Kwagga was like a child on the park, Mostert was awol and I expected our bench frontrow to come on assert the forward dominance and take the game away from the Lions They are probably pissed off for being benched in the first place, especially Kitshoff who had served his apprenticeship behind the Beast Will be interesting to see if Rassie beefs things up for the second test

There was nothing in it, but the Boks were obviously undercooked...we should improve a bit more this week.

They could be more organised, but the Boks at peak organisation under this coaching staff is still immensely predictable, in fact, more so. They could over-power the Lions with an emotional display of reslient defence, but they'd better be careful. The Lions have more firepower and are much better ball-in-hand. We need to be realistic about the situation if we truly want to move forward.

Mostert 15 tackles made/ 1 tackle missed….our leading defender. Contrast Dud Toit 13 tackles made/4 missed. Drop the Dud.

Mostert was awol….but he made the most tackles. The typical uninformed Dave bias to the fore again.

There were several instances of Steph being beaten cleanly, which the stats don't show. That's the worst kind of defensive lapse: A totally busted coverage!

Dud Toit should be playing lock….we can’t afford to have a rover with no given responsibilities who is exposed in op en field.

Mostert was awol physically like he always is Fuck me if you can’t see that then you are clueless Bok strength is power play and you know that so why the fuck endorse the selection of weak Mostert? PSDT missed too many tackles but he was good with ball in hand

The Goats lacked leadership ... and when they turned to their captain for direction, they found him scratching his head ... puzzled and confused.

Useless as an openside flank and useless as a leader.

We all know he's not there for his skillset.
