Jerome if you recall Giteau was moved to scrummie, because he was deemed too small .... and never made the transition. I take your point on defence, but Kolbe could survive by going low. Aplon who was even smaller brought the big guys down like giant Redwoods.

Well Moz Giteau actually made a move to scrum half a few
times for instance in the tour to Europe matches in 2006 and
various other times in his career later. The Giteau comparison to Kolbe
is irrelevant because they both have different strengths and weaknesses.
Aplon was a better defender than Kolbe because his tackling technique
was more effective, it was lower, harder and direct. Kolbe's defence
problem is not only an issue because of his weight, its because of
other factors also such as defensive positioning and tackling technique.

Kolbe has ALL the attributes to make a great scrummie and will never make it at fullbackas he is too short and far too small.
Even if you cant see the obvious please ACCEPT THE VIEWS OF BEENO. MALLET AND DIVAN SERFIONTEIN - VERY AUTHORATIVE DONT YOU THINK!
Be assured tha t halfwit Coeatzee has no clue as to his real problems.

The information of Aplon is as follows:-
Height - 1,75 metersWeight - 78 kgs
The equivalent info on Kobe is as follows:-
Height - 1,71 metersWeight - 72 kgs
Mozart as per normal is making sweeping statements like " Aplon who was even smaller brought the big guys down like giant Redwoods" without checking his facts. Another factor Mozart never checked is that while Aplon was a top class player - his defense was not always the best around and there were question marks about the tackling aspect of his play.
So forget about Mozart's stupid comments - it is not worth considering at all - since he is as per normal wrong in virtually all his statements.
I tend to agree with you about Kolbe. I think he would make a very good flyhalf or scrumhalf. Matter of fact I would prefer him at flyhalf. I think he can read games exceptionally well and his decision-making is excellent - in other words he has ball sense galore. That element is of even more value in a flyhalf than it is in a scrumhalf.
Besides that the Stormers are struggling at flyhalf with two rather average players in that position - Kolbe will give some meaning to that position. In defense a flyhalf is not as badly exposed as a full back and the tackling deficiency showed by Kolbe will be less problematic.

Nope he would not make a good flyhalf as his defence in that channel is not good enough.Oaks trust the authorities on the game namely the esteemed Beeno and those following Beeno's lead - M allet and Divan Serfontein. Thanks

I have no problem with moving him to scrummie - but think that he would be a better answer than the useless and clueless flyhalfs the Stormers have at present.
Defnse in the channel are made easier by the number of players around in that case. It is not a case where the flyhalf is the only defending player in that case.

Well put. I thought i am the only one who thinks Kolbe would be a very good option at flyhalf. He has all the qualities of being an incredible fly half. When he's playmaking at first receiver he is remarkable. As I've said his goal kicking can be developed overtime.
At flyhalf Kolbe's defence wouldn't be exposed as much due to the space being alot tighter. Flyhalf is the easiest position to defend in the backline. The hardest position to defend is at fullback because there's a lot of space for the attacking player.
According to espn Kolbe's weight is now 80KGs not 72KGS

Good for him in picking up weight - I think that I agree with you about the flyhalf issue exactly on the basis as set out by you. Goalkicking could be worrisome - but I think could be overcome in time. Maybe the Stormers could find another goalkicker in the meantime - for instance by playing Catrakillis or Coleman as full backs as an interim measure.

A pipe dream. Ninety per cent of flyhalf play is kicking. This is another Brent Russell proposition.

Mozart - Mozart - Mozart
"Ninety per cent of flyhalf play is kicking." - The most stupid statement ever made on this site. I think I should sent this to the various franchises and ask them whether that phrase is credible? At least they need some mitrth - I bet you they will as Sasue put it do bluntly LMAO.

Its true that some cover can be provided for a weak tackling flyhalf. Give it a go perhaps but scrummie looks to be his best position.

Not really. ....flyhalf and inside centre bear the brunt of the backline tackling. A weakness at 10 is an invitation to probe and offload.

100% correct Mozart. Was probing the reason for the shocking tackling stats of Francois Steyn playing at flyhalf last year - at flyhalf his missed tackle ratio was 30? Was it the reason for Morne Steyn's worse stats in Perth last year (15 attempts - 6 made, 7 missed)?
