Has been sublime for the Sharks. It has been a long time since a loose forward was so effective on the attack in open play. Skinstand, Joe Van Niekerk and even Kankowski were fast linking players that could offload in the tackle and create space.

He clearly did not fit into the one-dimensional game plan played by many of the SA sides. He would probably also be good for the Lions.

I was dubious of the signing earlier in the year as the Sharks have been conservative in recent years with a running game, and relied on forward domination and brute force by the backs.

However, in the current game plan deployed by the Sharks, he has been phenomenal. If he is going to be considered by the Boks they will need to play a more attacking brand of rugby.

Conceded, you were his most loyal fan and he has come to fruition. He has been around for a while, it goes to show how poor some of the coaches are.
If we look at many of the black players that are have been playing well over the last 2 years, they seem to favour a more expansive and high tempo skilled game. They have less of a power game, and instead, back themselves to go wide instead of carrying it up like lumber jacks .

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!!

A second rate lightweight is now the next best thing in South African rugby. A legend in the making according to these two.

SharkShit and Dumb Fuck Dave, both totally ignorant of anything rugby related, have found their quota ... and are now comparing him to Skinstad, Big Joe and Kankowski.

Wow!!!

Just as predicted.

What next? Will he join Oupa Mohoje in challenging McCaw as the best loosie ever? Stay tuned.

I expect we'll see Redneck join these two well known quota lovers. He is after all a massive fan of them and Notshe is a special player in his eyes. The future Goats captain.

Undoubtedly we'll hear a lot more from these bozo about the brilliance of these pretenders, formerly known as quotas.

Have at it boys. What else can you chumps post about? South African rugby is at an all time high, right?

I can't see him shining in a meat grinder match against a big pack.

Kankowski never really panned out at international level either, as was the case with Warren Whitely.
However, credit where credit is due. Notshe has played well this season. It is good to see a thinking player on the pitch instead of trying to run through brick walls.

Marcel Coetzee is finished, totally injury-prone. Looks like is an Egyptian mummy running around. It has become very injury prone- which was probably inevitable the way he used to play the game.
Dan Dupreez is an upgrade of Johan Deysel. Deysel 2.0. He needs to add more finesse to his game and could take a look at Notshe. It just depends on the game plan. In tight test matches, the physicality of one of the twins would probably be more effective. If it is an all-out attacking game, Notshe has the skills to link with the backs. The Dupreez twins can't touch their own toes let alone compete at the breakdown.
There is still no ideal replacement for the ageing Vermuelen. Vermuelen was probablySA's best player at the world cup, and I think he got man of the match as well in the final.

Francios Louw needs a replacement as well. It is not just about making a couple of turnovers each match. Louw slowed down opposition ball at the ruck, and he speeds up retention for the Boks on attack. This impact makes the whole team play better as a unit. Coaches will have stats like how many times a player was the first and second player to hit a ruck as this is what puts pressure on the opposition.

Shark I see you are incapable of comprehending anything and too stupid to move on from your first assessment of a player - the du Preez twins and JVR I thought you might have seen the light given your progression on Notshe but clearly not Marcel Coetzee has remained injury free since his minor injury that kept him out of the WC squad so stop speaking utter shit Do some fucking research before putting your foot in it

When injury-prone players play at a higher level, they become even more injury-prone. Look no further than the Egyptians mummy return for the Boks last year.

Springbok loose forward Marcell Coetzee says the biggest challenge he faces after missing out on World Cup selection due to injury is accepting his reality.

Coetzee suffered a double injury blow during South Africa’s warm-up Test against Argentina at Loftus on Saturday when he first injured his ankle before taking a knock to the head.

(2 injuries in the limited time he was on the pitch....)

It has since been confirmed that Coetzee will need to undergo corrective ankle surgery, which will subsequently rule him out of action for 12 weeks and thus also out of contention for World Cup selection.

Saffex you don't understand rugby as a team game, a system. You can look at the performances of individuals. This is why your squads are so large. You cant select the best XV, without changing it the following week.
Any team chosen by you would be unbalanced. It would have 15 ball carriers trying to dominate the gain line. It would be unbalanced and not a well-oiled machine.
The game would be lost at the ruck

Oh what utter crap I don’t change my sides. Squads usually comprise more than the match day 23, so I pick a large squad. My starting and subs 23 pretty much stay the same and have done for months so stop lying You ignorantly bang on about the du Preez Twins twins not competing at the breakdown which is utter horseshit not that that is the job of a 7 and 8 anyway but you don’t know your rugby hence the conclusion you reach. It’s the job of your 6 to fetch and one other, in the Bok side that’s Marx and a handful of others. But as Rooineck correctly pointed out to you the du Preez twins are just as adept at work at the breakdown as others. But if you actually knew what you were taking about then you would know that it’s not the job of a 7 and 8 to effect turnovers As for my side it’s not moved from the following in months/ possibly years 15. Willie 14. Nkosi 13. Kriel 12. de Allende/ Serfontein 11. Dyantyi/ Kolbe 10. Pollard 9. Faf 1. Kitshoff 2. Marx 3. Wilco Louw 4. Etzebeth 5. PSDT / Lood / RG 6. Kolisi 7. Jacques du Plessis / JL du Preez 8. Marcel Coetzee / Dan du Preez And that’s a fact so stop fucking lying. I’ve stuck with these as my choices for ages unless handicapped by actual squad selections by Bok coaches

Saffex, At least 2 out of 3 loose forwards should be competing at the breakdown, not just getting a couple of turnovers. A general team, not a tight forward like Marx who when in form is just a freak that a tight forward can be the first person at a ruck so often.
Vermeulen was another allround player that can mix between a ball carrier and fetcher. He can vary his game based on the situation. He is a million times better than the Deysel twins- in a real test match. If the Boks were losing at the breakdown, Vermuelen can move into a specialist fetching role until the battle of the breakdown is changed.

There are hundreds of rucks each match, and it is often where a match is won or lost. This is where your understanding of rugby "breaks down"...You can look at a million rugby games, all you see are the 1 on 1 exchanges of the forwards, with a strong bias for creatine and youth
It is much more complex how a team operates the team unit within space. Like how times a loose forward was the first person to a ruck, or how many metres they covered during the game. This allows other players to catch their breath or time to get into a position to run on to the ball as it is cleared from the ruck.
Specialist players- e.g. a ball carrier like Alberts can only be played when the other 2 loose forwards can compete at breakdowns. (e.g. actually be one of the first people to the ruck).

Oh what utter crap, you have absolutely no idea how the game is played and nor are you able to comprehend the fact that the du Preez twins do as much work at the breakdown as any other forwards Dan du Preez outplayed Vermeulen in virtually every Super rugby match last season and that’s a fact. You ignorantly take Vermeulen effecting the odd turnover as his greater contribution than most at the breakdown - it’s simply not true - you don’t understand what work at the breakdown entails Your stupidity and short sightedness sees the du Preez twins as donkeys if that is the case how is it that they make the TOW that often up here, it’s certainly not only because they carry well. Flatman is not that stupid One certainty is that you have not watched the du Preez twins playing for Sale for if you had you would not be coming up with the utter crap you do

It is a fact that you believe Dan Dupreez outplayed Vermuelen, however, that, unfortunately, has no relation to reality.
Although while I could watch more premiership rugby- particularly when 2 good teams play each other. There are also some dead beats in the Premiership
However, I have seen the Diesel 2.0 twins play for the Sharks. They were good at what they did, but they are one-dimensional compared to Vermuelen. You measure a players impact on a game by one or two breaks. You wet yourself when JJ made that "half" break against Savea.

If a player is a right age, is a magical weight figure and one of your favourites,  you then add about 100% points when measuring their performance. (re: JJ) . Then you deduct points for players if they are close to 30. Your emotional bias ruins your objective interpretation

One piece of the jigsaw, you just don't understand how everything works together as a system. Work off the ball and the ruck area is not your forte

Just as I thought so you have not watched them this year and base your calls on your original takes on them. Wow that progressive but to be fair it would have made no difference had you watched them this year because you are ignorant. As for Dan outplaying Vermeulen it’s a fact, go check the stats they are available on ESPN, I dare you. You telling me I don’t understand how everything works together in a system whatever the fuck that is, is a fucking joke given it’s source. There are a good few rugby contributors on here who’s rugby knowledge I respect you are not one of them. Problem is you lack a basic grasp of the game, you lack the ability to evolve your takes on players and you lie. You lied about me changing my side all the time and now you are lying about my selection based on size and age. If size was an issue I would not have Willie at 15 or Kolbe or Dyantyi o n the wing. If age was a factor then Kitshoff, Eben, Lood, PSDT, Kolisi, Marcel Coetzee, Faf, de Allende, Jantjies, Reinach, Malherbe, Nyakane, Mbonambi and Willie would not feature in my sides now would they Stop fucking lying you prick it’s irritating

He has been rubbing up people, he has been barking up the wrong tree – for some.  He has dished out and received. But he is still around – surprisingly to some folks!

I have posted some questions to our latest spoon on Sharksworld – so here we go – meet the guy behind SAFFEX!

Name, nickname and where do you live? David Searle, live in a village (Washbrook) outside Ipswich in England

What do you do for a living? Solicitor

Who do you support and why? Coming from Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, I dont have an affiliation to any particular SA side, I support them all. Some would say I should be a Kings supporter, but no there is no history with the Kings.

How/why did you become a “? TEAM” supporter? I love all SA rugby

What was your most memorable rugby moment (personally experienced or a team / player)? Being selected to play Craven Week for EP Schools. The Boks coming from 20 odd points behind with 15 minutes to go to beat the All Blacks.

What is your Dream team (old and current players)? It has to be a SA side of 15. Frans Steyn 14. Ray Mordt 13. Danie Gerber 12. Jean de Villiers 11. Habana 10. Hennie le Roux 9. Joost 1. Os du Rant 2. Bismark 3. CJ v/d Linde 4. Bakkies Botha 5. Eben Etzebeth 6. Ruben Kruger 7. Juan Smith 8. Bob Skinstad 16. Hougaard 17. Stransky 18. JP 19. Beast 20. John Smit 21. Matfield 22. Schalk Burger

Which co-bloggers opinion do you value the Most? Why? Have not been around that long to make that kind of call. I like Letgo’s soothing touch!

What is the biggest sacrifice you’ve made to watch a rugby match? Making love to a beautiful woman!

Who is your least liked player? Morne Steyn

Who are your favourite 3 players of all time and why? Bob Skinstad, had the skills of a back, a game changer. Joost v/d Westhuizen, best 9 to ever play the game, created tries from nothing. Eben Etzebeth, the game is about contact, there is no greater bruizer than this kid, ask hardman Bismark

If you could have a blogger deleted, who would it be and why? No blogger should be deleted, freedom of speech and all that.

If you could select a coach (past or present) to be with Your team – who would it be? Kitch Christie

How did you end up on SW, wasting valuable company time? Used to pop in to read the odd article, decided to join the blogging as I do it on other rugby sites. Its my salvation, I’m a SA rugby man living in England. I can’t talk SA rugby with my Pom mates!

Who is your favourite referee – current or old? Dont have one, they are all wrong most of the time!

Why Rugby ? Its in my bloody, if its not a woman, its rugby dominating my thoughts. I played, my kids play, I coach, I hate missing a game, I am always selecting sides, I know the weights, ages of every SA S15 player (sad) – you could say rugby is a passion of mine. I should have had a career in rugby.

How do you react when your team loses? If the Boks lose, I stay grumpy for a good 24 hours.

What is your most memorable rugby moment ever? Winning our two world cups, in particular the first one as I played with Hennie le Roux.

What is your favourite rugby ground? Twickenham, only because I have never been to any of the SA grounds.

What is your earliest memory of a live game – provincial or test match? Watching the British Lions against EP in PE in the 80?s as a kid.

If you could play – what position would suite you best and why? I played centre, I started the crashball craze!!

Do you have any pre-match routines (home or going to the game)? Noooooo

Who is your all-time favourite or best Captain? (locally or internationally) and why? John Smit, great player and respected leader

If your nic is not your real name – how did it originate? Saffex, I used to live in Essex, I am a Saffa who lived in Essex, hence Saffex

What is your take on woman rugby supporters? How do you feel about the female bloggers on SW? No different to male supporters, but much nicer to look at. There should be more female bloggers on SW

Describe “Sharkertainment” Shark entertainment – which means nothing to me as I play no part in it, living in England

Are you related to any well-known player? No

There you have it folks! Thanks for taking the time, Saffex!

Chiefs also make changes aplenty »« JP misses out on Bok contract
