Nyakane a 'constant eater'

Cape Town - Trevor Nyakane's ill-discipline has become a problem which the prop must sort out if he wants to return to the Springbok squad.

Nyakane, 24, was on Sunday axed from the Bok squadfor disciplinary reasons, with official word from the Bok camp saying he "repeatedly breached team protocol".

The Cheetahs prop missed a flight to the Bok training camp last week and also missed a video session without permission.

He is also unfit, and sources close to the team told theBeeld website Nyakane's "constant eating" is a big concern for the Bok coaching staff.

Nyakane was among 30 players chosen for home and away Tests against the Pumas at the start of the Rugby championship, but did not make the match-day 23 in the 73-13 rout of Argentina at FNB Stadium over the weekend.

The 118kg front-ranker rose to prominence as a second-half impact player for his franchise and won his first Springbok cap against Italy last June as a replacement.

He also came off the bench against Scotland and Samoa in other four-nation tournament games and is considered a long-term challenger to tighthead incumbent Jannie du Plessis.

Coach Heyneke Meyer replaced Nyakane with uncapped Lourens Adriaanse in his 26-man touring squad while Piet van Zyl took the place of unavailable scrumhalf Fourie du Preez.

My guess is that Meyer has made his first fatal error axing a black player from his squad.........Meyer continues to come across as pretty stupid. There are better ways of dealing with a player than publicly hanging out all the dirty laundry when that laundry seems only slightly soiled

The only official reason from the Bok camp was that he has breached team protocol by missing video sessions and flights. That, to me is ill-discipline. What should Meyer have done? Lick his arse and ask him to start behaving? It has bugger all to do with the colour of his skin and all to do with a crap attitude if you ask me. There is no place for ill-disciplined lazy free-riders in the Bok squad.

Tell that to the masses and those wanting to impose quotas.......I'm sure they are over the moon about the axing of one of only two Africans in the Bok squad. I dont count Beast as he is a Zimbo.

While there is no place for ill discipline, I'm just saying that Meyer is a dunce for making the call......it will come back to bite him. My guess is that the knives will be out and I for one wont be sorry for his call is plain stupidity

If it is not effecting his fitness then eating all the time should not be a problem.

Guntrho Steenkamp made the squad and he far exceeds the flight weight safety restrictions for the trip to Argentina.

Ag BS Saffex. Are you trying to tell me that because he is black, he should not be disciplined. Heyneke Meyer is know for someone who does not take no for an answer when it comes to discipline. In 2002 he kicked Bakkies Botha outr of the Bulls team and had him play Vodacom cup for 10 weeks, because of his ill-discipline when it came to team protocol. HM did not intend making everything public, but thanks to the media he was left with no choice. Bear in mind that Meyer and the coaches' time with the players is very limited as it is and then Nyakane arrived late for a practice session and Meyer had a chat with him and told him that it was not acceptable. He then decided to be 15 minutes late for a video session and that was when Meyer did not select him for the Soweto game. That was purely for disciplinary reasons. He was going to be in the team. but the video session was the last straw and Meyer told him that that was the end and the final warning. Then, after that final warning he missed the flight on Sunday. Meyer has made it clear that the door is not shut but that the ball is in his court now. It had fvckall to do with him being black. What do you think would have happened if he was not disciplined because he is black and one of the white players got dropped for breaching team protocol?

Vlag I know you are thick and wont get this and yes, I am saying that Meyer has shot himself in the foot. While you might think its a good idea to axe a black player from the squad, I can assure the powers that be wont be smiling.

What I am saying is that Meyer has done himself no favours......get with the programme. He will have made no friends with those that carry clout believe you me. In a nutshell, Meyer like yourself are just too stupid to spot the obvious.

Sometimes in life there are certain calls you just dont make.......to survive you have to play the game........you on board yet or does whoooosh continue to strike a cord?

"Sometimes in life there are certain calls you just dont make".

Where would we all be without the life coaching by Saffex?

Just kidding Dave!

Meyer is shooting himself in the foot to suspend one of the few indigenous black players in the squad.

Especially as it is a forward, and the recent mandate by SARU is that the Vodacoms main perogative is to increase forwards that are of African decent.

@Dave and Sharkbok. So this is how you see the handling of discipline in the national squad. You will be disciplined and expected to toe the line, unless you are a black forward, in which case you may come and go and behave pretty much as you like and fuck the team? Yeah right. We are very flippin lucky that you two are not in charge of the Bok team.

IMO based on what has been reported Meyer made the right decision & in the best interest of the team. We all know it will piss of the politicos. He doesn't need a 3 amigos Oz type situation. This really got out of hand & has split the team (spoilt brats)

Agree J_W, and as I said earlier, Meyer is know for someone who will not take it lightly and he has done it in the past when he side-lined Bakkies Botha. Jake White did the same with Victor Matfield when he sent him back to SA during an overseas stint of the Boks in the TN, years ago.

I don't think that Trevor is the best Loosehead around. What about Kitshoff, he has been doing pretty well for his you age and already has more super caps under his belt than Trevor. Then you also have Coenie who is probably a better prop. For me Trevor can hold up his own in the scrums and doesn't really embarress himself like Sepaka did.

My biggest bug bear is skin colour and quotas. To me he is on the border of becominga  quota. The other problem is Entitlement, if the bloke don't work just hard as the other guys then he should get the boot. There seems ot be trend with 'lazy' black players. The SA cricket team had the same problem with Thobe, for all his talent, he was just not putting the work in.

Now take players such as Habana and Kolisi who works there arses off to be in the team and not marginalised.

I think Meyer did the right thing. Don't make any exceptions based on "quota"

Vlag you miss the point, I would discipline him, I would just not be dropping him from the squad........therein lies the difference. Meyer is already running around telling the world that he is not angry with Trevor etc........I wonder why that is. Meyer has shot himself in the foot as he is too stupid to play the game.....much like he is too stupid and conservative when it comes to selections and game plans. When it gets a little tight for him in terms of results, his axing of Trevor will have done him no favours and the powers that be will be more than happy to give Meyer the boot. He has blotted his card, mark my word.

Discipline is essential. You can't have the players doing as they please.

There are rules to follow. Those who don't should bear the consequences of their actions.

Skin colour has nothing to do with it.

Maybe it's because he has the right skin colour that Nyakane thought he could push the issue. The fat arse had his bluff called and now he'll hopefully never get back into the mix .  Very dissappointing.

I'm with Meyer on this one.

I once saw Pavarotti munching an apple between songs at a recital. he was a constant eater, but pretty good at what he did. If Castro ate all the time, one might look the other way. Sadly this tubby little guy is not good enough to be a constant eater. Kitshoff is miles better, but still two years away from test rugby.

Saffex Sorry to but in - but Meyer has a problem. He can in terms of Sanzar rules only take a 26 member squad on tour. That means the match day 23 - plus three other players. That normally will be a scrummie - one other backline player and one forward. That means that he cannot take passengers he does not intend to play on tour. My problem is he should rather have got rid of the non-performing Steenkamp first and then look at the situation again. He also got rid of De Jongh - Mozart must wet himself because of that - so he does show some logic in dealing with the situation. Be it as it may - Meyer cannot take passengers on tour and if he took Nyakane and one of the forwards got injured - eg in training - he would have a serious problem on hand. I think Steenkamp won't make the bench 0on Saturday he is too useless to imagine.

Retain him in the squad and drop him from the test 23.

And if that does not work? Bear in mind that that was actually the route that Meyer took. When he missed the video session, he was told that he was going on tour to Argentina but that he was not going to play. Obviously not unless something happened and Meyer was forced to play him. Then, after that, he missed the flight. So he wiped his arse on Meyer's final ultimatum and still fucked the team around. The flight that he missed was the third transgression. So once again, what would you have done if you were in Meyer's shoes and you have alreday gone the route that you have suggested above? What then? What is your next step?

Snapster Trevor deserved what he got and thankfully we will have no three amigoes scenario in the Bok camp.

Stuff these racist politicians. If they enforce quotas we will in all likelihood be banned from international competition, the world will know what racists they are and we can then go and do something else with our lives.

Nkayane should have been in the match 23 ahead of the useless Steenkamp......if he had eaten too much or missed the plain then drop him from the match 23 but retain him in the squad and work with him. Dont discard him, especially considering he is a black player, for if you want to stay on the right side of the powers that be, you have to play their game.......harsh but true........and therein lies my point.

Meyer does not have the savy to look after his own arse.......axing Trevor confirms that.

Well done Dave. You do not have an answer to a simple question, so the next step is to try and blame it on me making out as if I have a hotline to Meyer. No my friend, the only reason I did not provide a link was because I thought that you would know what was in the news. Obviously I was wrong. Does that have something to do with your normal disregard for the facts? Anyway, just for you:

Door not shut on unfit Nyakane
2013-08-20 07:48

Cape Town - National coach Heyneke Meyer says the door is not shut on prop Trevor Nyakane to make a return to the Springbok squad.

The 24-year-old was on Sunday axed from the Bok squad for disciplinary reasons, with official word from the Bok camp saying he "repeatedly breached team protocol".

The Cheetahs prop missed a flight to the Bok training camp last week and also missed a video session without permission.

GALLERY: Top 10 Rugby bad boys

He is also unfit, and sources close to the team said his "constant eating" is a big concern for the Bok coaching staff. (Note that this was according to so-called "sources" and not Meyer)

Meyer, however, said the talented Nyakane can come back into consideration if he improves his discipline and commitment.

"The ball is now in his court," Meyer told the Beeld website.

"I must mention that I'm disappointed in him, but not angry. He let the team down. I told him it's unacceptable when he arrived late (for our training camp) in Johannesburg. Then, when he also arrived 15 minutes late for our video session, I told him that was the last time.

"He would have been in the team for the match at FNB Stadium, but I didn't pick him due to disciplinary reasons. After our last team meeting in Johannesburg I told him he is a gifted player and I will take him along on tour, because he needs this touring experience. He would not have played on the tour due to disciplinary reasons, but it was a lesson he had to learn.

"I told him to go to his room and that we would see each other the next morning (Sunday) and then depart. But then he also missed the team's flight.

"If he wants to play for South Africa again, he must improve his discipline and work on his fitness."

Meyer said he is confident Nyakane will emerge a better player from this experience.

"It's not as though he got drunk and hit someone. But if I make exceptions, then he won't learn. Discipline is non-negotiable. I didn't want to make this public, but Trevor must now take responsibility for his actions. He immediately admitted he was wrong.

"(But) I'm sure he'll come back a better player. But when that will be, will depend on him," said Meyer.

The Boks are currently in Buenos Aires preparing for Saturday's clash against the Pumas in Mendoza.

Kick-off is at 21:10 (SA time).

So Dave, there you have it. Exactly like I said. As you can see that Meyer did try the route that you suggested but then, after he has tried your route, then Nyakane decided to wipe his arse on him. Now I ask you once again. If you were the coach and you have tried your suggestion and it had no effect, what would your next step have been had you been the coach. Come now. Answer that one without ducking and diving again.

I did have an answer you stupid prick......I gave it to you. What part of Trevor being a black player do you not get and Meyer not playing the game to safeguard his arse do you not get. My guess is you would follow the Meyer model and sit there is a years time wondering what went wrong and why you are out of a job?? You really miss the obvious point dont you.......surprise, surprise

So Stupid … just a question … why do you insist on keeping your head so firmly lodged?

Huh??

Selecting a fat, ill disciplined glutton with no regard for the Bok jersey nor the house rules is ok by you, huh!!!

Just as long as we get the quotas in place first, right?

All I can say is that I hope Nyakane gets his act together because he has the potential to be an excellent prop.

That is what Heyeneke Meyer has said as well, but understanding that is way too difficult for some people to understand.

@Saffex. Still ducking and diving. You have not given an answer to what I have asked. I have asked you what you would do if your solution does not work, which is exactly what has happened. What would you do then? Still keep him? Despite his disregard for the rest of the team?

Clean Cut I know you are somewhat thicker than most on here, so never expected you to pick up on my angle. Given what a racist you are, I thought you might just appreciate my angle........but alas you are too damn stupid aren't you? Vlag man you are dence, what part of me working with him did you not get. I would not axe him as his offences are minor and he is black - I be protecting my arse, get it?

"My guess is that Meyer has made his first fatal error axing a black player from his squad"

"one of only two Africans in the Bok squad. I dont count Beast as he is a Zimbo..."

"While you might think its a good idea to axe a black player from the squad"

"Dont discard him, especially considering he is a black player,"

"What part of Trevor being a black player do you not get"

INTERESTING!!!!

The one person so pre-occupied with the colour of someone's skin is the one constantly accusing others of being racist....

And just confirm it, he adds this... "Given what a racist you are,"

So, how long do you intend "working with him"? Until doomsday?

Meyer has been low key & just said if this guy gets his act together he will be welcome back. He did the right thing IMO . He is trying to mould a player & help the team. If he does this for all players (regardless of face) he has a chance to survive the politics .

Ha!  Us black ous can literary get away with murder.  Most people are scared to be branded a racist (like Saffex is trying to do to Meyer) and then they let us off with a lighter sanction.  My biggest problem is when the NATS ruled this little kingdom, I was to "black" to be white and now I am to "white" to be black -  eish us coulered guys ust cannot win.  Look at Brian, Gurthro and JP, they do not count as PDA players when it suits SARU, but when they excel it pleases SARU and they brag about how good the "black" players are.  We live in a fucked-up world, nê Pappie Saffex..

Thank you Beeno, I found that other site.. it looks cool

So let me get this straight … you are prepared to keep this fat black disobedient man in the squad so that you can feel safe about your job.

Hmmmmmmmmmm .... ok!!!!

You're not going to play him though, not even from the bench but he can come along as a form of punishment for his indescretions.

Interesting!!!!!

So what happens if things go pear shaped and you need to call on the extra prop.

Is all forgiven then?
