Would the Bok fans accept the likes of Mitchel or Deans ?

Not me....I'd take Hansen. Why would we take two of your chaps who have flopped at international level? And what gives with all the posts WD?

Absolutely!!!

Both Mitch and Deans are class acts. They would make a massive difference.

Hansen isn't available at the moment and to be quite honest I think the Kiwi people would deem it an act of treason if he were to ever come over to the Bok camp. Deans and Mitch not so much.

Hansen is waaaay to smart to take up the Bok job even if it was available to him. He'd never be able to select his best team because of politics. Only a spineless money hungry pawn like Coetzee would take the job under the current setup.

From what I know of SA rugby someone like Deans would be a better fit for the Boks than the Wallabies .SA players seem to respect and listen to their coaches in the same fashion as Kiwis whilst the Aussies want to argue the toss with the coach and tend to do as they please.

The Boks nead a stern rudder...Toetie is too soft/nice for the job. Mitch or Dingo Deans would be great, with Deans probably the better of the 2. His Crusader side of old played traditional Bok rugby, with some added Kiwi flair. Immaculate set pieces and solid defence. Would be a shoe in.

PS. Give him the job and give the assistant job to the best young Saffa coach...to take over after 8 years.

The amaGoata& Quotas of  2016 was a poor team, but hopefully, 2017 picks up again after the disaster in New Zealand.
Mitchell would my candidate. He has experience in SA, like John Plumtree.

Hansen once made a very cryptic remark about the problems faced by Meyer as SA  coach clearly referring to the quota system that nullifies selection of players based on performance and merit.
That brings me to another question - to argue against the quota system did Meyer select some of the duds fir the WC of 2015?
No NZ coach will accept the poisonous quota system as a basis for team selection and one can dream about some of their coaches as being appropriate as SA coach ad infinitum and the dream will not be realized.

I don't think it was the quota system that killed Meyer's plans. He made some very strange calls ... always favouring the elderly stars of years ago.

His love of the Bulls was pretty much evident.

He refused to even look at the youngster and when he did he selected very poorly, leaving out guys like Stander.

Did he ever select a specialist outside centre?

The man was confused. Yes I suppose quotas played it's part but Meyer was his own worst enemy. He never kept up with the modern game and picking Louw over Brussow was one of his many blunders .

What a waste.

I have said it before and I still believe it to be true.

I doubt many international coaches would take up this position, purely because of the restrictions and limitations put on the job.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see coaches risking their reputation with a taking a job like this, where they would have little say in the bigger scheme of things.

Who knows, it could change, but I have my doubts

You identified Meyer's problem clearly.   He selected in the main has-beens based on reputation and not performance.    However, in the case of the WC squad he selected players whose role in the comp was so limited - eg Kirchner and Paige.
Another Meyer flop in 2015 was Pienaar - yet one particular idiot on site wants him back in the squad.  Careful what you say about Stander - the same idiot will have a fit.
The most telling indictment of Meyer was his refusal to select Lions players.   He apparently did not understand the game plan and it is clear his old league of has beens could not adjust to fit into such a plan.   .

... yes ... and at one time it looked as though Eddie Jones was interested in the Bok coaching position.

Hard to believe they chose this dumb ass over him.

It cant happen. Leaving room to spin is essential to SA rugby.

Any SA team, trained by any coach, will still fail. This time, with no room to tell stories. It will be game over.

There would be  marginal gain only (like losing by less) This time, no option to bail out. It will shout termination of rugby in SA.

And this is not what is wanted.

Even with Q's and being in a rebuilding phase, we are no3 in the world and have lost only one match this season...against the best team in the world. Yes, it was a terrible performance, but only an idiot or a bitter ballz hater would want rugby in SA terminated. Which one are you?

Yet against New Zealand those "elderly stars" and "has-beens" came within two points of securing a World Cup final.
The young talent just got their asses kicked by 57-0 this year and by 41-13 and 57-15 last year. So how are those theories working out for you lads?

Meyer's last 4 results against the All Blacks when those old guys were at their oldest:
2014 away: SA 10 - 14 NZ 2014 home: SA 27 - 25 NZ2015 home: SA 20 - 27 NZ2015 WC:    SA 18 - 20 NZ
A hell of a lot more competitive than the current bunch.
And yes, Japan was an embarrassment. But so is 57-0.

No need to use a fictional species. In SA, people can not even speak majority languages.

Before considering fictional languages, maybe it is time to learn the languages spoken by the majority in the country one lives.

Mr Draad thats quite true about Deans and the Crusaders ,one of the reasons why I have always thought  he would fit in well with the Boks plus we have already sorta forgiven him fer helping out the Aussies .If it would help get the old rivalry back on track I reckon most Kiwis would be happy to see him or one of our other coaches in SA.Being an actual card carrying Trekker I can tell you right now that Dennys universal translator is on the fritz and he is obviously speaking Bolian.
