A thought came to my mind the other day...I was thinking of Tomas Lavanni (the young Puma) who attended the Chiefs Developement School/Academy/Program last year and wonder why:
1) He joined...did he want one day to play for the All Blacks or his own country, Argentina?
2) Why they accepted him but later would not give him a contract because they only want prospects that ultimately could play for NZ?...Tomas could not.
3) Was his attendance there for him only wanting the experience or practice?...I doubt it, but only he can answer that.
Chiefs would not give him a contract, as much as he would have been a valuable lock...a need that exists now...indeed what I managed to glean from snippets here and there...he is a very promising player and we will see him representing Argentina in the WC next year...I'm sure of this.
Tomas made an excellent decision in joining Racing Metro and we wish him all the very best and I'm sure posters like Ol'Maaik and others including myself will be delighted in watching him play for his country in next years biggest stage in rugby.
The SA Franchises are not like this...players like Freddie Michalak,Hernandez,Thierry La Croix, several Pacific Islanders and several others over the years, for the Sharks, Sinclair (Canada) for the Stormers have done time in SA and done it well when emergencies and also improvement is needed.
