both NZ7s and the blitzboks won their semifinals match in the las vegas 7s.
NZ beat fiji in extra time while SA also in extra time defeated samoa.
this is shaping up to be a wicked finals series, NZ are missing key players, while the blitzboks have cecil afrika.
good luck to both teams with game reviews/results to be posted here by the uchiha clan, :o)
NZ7s vs blittzboks, 2013 las vegas 7s,,,
wow, blitzboks just blitzed the NZ7s team with 4 converted trys in the first half of the final, o_O
Now 35-0
a little fight back from NZ in the last few minutes, but waaaaaaaaaaaay too late, SA pulled out a very dominant performance.
final score 40-21
congrats to the blitzboks for a well deserved victory.
Blitzbokke defence was superb, NZ beat plenty of tackles....but there was always another defender. Poor calls evened out with a Bok try off a knock on and a NZ try off a massively forward pass. If this is going to be an Olympic sport, the reffing will have to be improved.
The Fiji/Samoa final was superbly entertaining and full of great running.
Congrats to Canada on their Plate win....their toughest match against the USA in the semi was another tight contest.
Somehow fell alsleep befor ehte game started and woke up only when they handed over the trophy and medals. I assume the game would be rebroadcast later and will then watch it - before commenting on it. The scoreline indicates a good performance by the Blitsbokke - but would like to watch the game itself before commenting on it.
Sasuke..This news is not surprising big guy. Its 2013 now. You are not going to see a score between SA and NZL in rugby where NZL has more points...We gave you 2012..We taking it back in 2013 ;-)
Good luck to the kiwi's this year..You boys are gona need it.. ;-)
Like Mike I hope to watch the match tonight.
The sevens side is made up largely of dregs so how they could win the tournament is a surprise. We need to put in some quality players in and make sevens our own.
Also, maybe the 20 year olds who are not quite ready for senior rugby could be put in? Playing sevens is generally beneficial for backline players, loose forwards and even hookers.
@boklogic,
first of all, how rude of me, my mother raised me better then that, so please accept my apology for the lateness of this over due thanks.
thank u south africa, for giving us the 2012 7s, and for 2011 and 2010 and 2007 and 2006 and 2004 and 2003 and 2002 and 2001 and 1999.
phew, im glad the world 7s series onlyu started in 1999, or this thread could have been very tedious, LMAO, :oP
ps: please buddy, dont say anything about giving us the super rugby or the TriNats and especially the IRB No1 ranking, i dont have three days to spare thanking SA for each indvidual title, o_-
Sas, we really not interested in 7's in SA. Only lately have we started doing what NZL does and spending money on provincial competitions and contracting players. NZL has been doing that for years but we just unleash natural talent and Cecil Afrika on NZL and make them rattle.
Pasop for the future. SA is building a machine. Last couple tournaments we have been easily the highest scoring team. Far too much natural talent and speed at our disposal.
I guess your statement saying lucky it only started in 1999 or this thread could have been tedious. I guess I could say the same for international rugby had the Bokke not been excluded all those years. 1987 would have been our first WC win and who knows how many we might have had now (if Bryce Lawrence was not around too). My guess is like 5 or 6 maybe?? (87, 91, 95, 07, 11 definates ;-)
@boklogic,
i have a habbit of adressing comments the way i am with urs cos its easier for me to counter comments i disagree with, lolz,,,
"we really not interested in 7's in SA."
compared to the 15 man game, neither are NZ, but like all things rugby it does nothing to deter our winning ways.
"Only lately have we started doing what NZL does and spending money on provincial competitions and contracting players."
all countries started to contract their players to 7s at the same time. the main problem for 7s is that most of those contracts always last a year as players from countries all around the world are looking for more lucrative offers in the 15 man game.
there have been plenty of exceptions though, dj forbes and cecil afrika for example.
i am also trying to track down the actual figures, but i know for a fact that SARU spend more on 7s then the NZRU do. this is both as a whole from all levels to te blitzboks them selves and just on the blitzboks.
"Last couple tournaments we have been easily the highest scoring team."
tsk tsk tsk,,,
here are the actual numers for the last two torunaments (between our two teams). i have also taken the liberty of throwing in the numbers of the previous tournament as well as the placings of our teams in those tournaments.
las vegas
SA 155pts (1st)
NZ 135pts (2nd)
wellington
SA 78pts (7th)
NZ 122pts (3rd)
port elizabeth
SA 115pts (3rd)
NZ 144pts (1st)
"I guess I could say the same for international rugby had the Bokke not been excluded all those years. 1987 would have been our first WC win and who knows how many we might have had now"
RWC was held in NZ, the final was held at eden park, a venue the Boks have not won in since 1936 or 1937, cant remember which, but it was years before WW2. i really dont think the Boks would have won there as they dont lnow how to.
its why eden park is the only ground in the world that has been successfully defended by the national team at international level.
BTW, cant wait for ur Boks to play us there later on in the year during the, IRC, :o)
Boklogic, you are the type of Bok fan that cling to past beliefs that SA plays the best rugby, when since readmittance the stats clearly show this not to be the case especially against the AB's, in tri nations/RC, Super 15 or 7's. If you have an alternative set of records to back your claims up would be happy to see them. And how many times has the "we let you guys win, or we lost because..(insert excuse), if not for..." excuse been heard followed by "we will beat the AB's this year". The Boks can't win consistent tri nations against the 2 strongest teams in world rugby yet they should've won 5-6 RWC., that's the Boks problem "should've".
