Stormers forever for those who don't know O' Donnel Abu. I see a lot of carping on other sites about the Stormers win. Did Jonker pull a Bryce Lawrence? In a word....no. The Canes were struggling at scrum time, struggling in the lineouts and struggling to contain the maul. Their only recourse was to cheat, a far different picture from the dominant Boks in the QF.
Did the Canes pull down the maul short of the line when a try was inevitable ....yep. Did Bekkers feet get taken out....yep. Did both props lose their bind....yep. So there were a lot of penalties, but I didn't see one that wasn't the correct call.
Even that last near try of Pietersen was a try. You simply couldn't get final confirmation of what was perfectly obvious. So one SA franchise scores three tries and the other four manage two between them. And that's the only team some fans hammmer? You have to wonder how sour the grapes can be.
The fact is is the only SA rugby played this weekend was by the Stormers, the Cheetahs and for 10 minutes at the close by the Sharks, after Jordaan came on. The Bools and Lions were content to rely TOTALLY on kicking. Morne up and unders, then Hougaard up and unders, then the Woolly Boolie up and unders.
The Bools may succeed using these tactics, but I can't say it makes for entertainment. Stormers ABU!!!!
