ODI 5....

The biggest problem facing the Proteas is selections, the Ozzie problem is winning the last remaining game and restoring some pride. Newlands has a history of favouring the Proteas so while the team bristles with confidence it's hard to forecast an Ozzie win. If there's swing then Steyn is a factor. The selectors are spoilt for choice with regards to a spinner...is it going to be Shamsi or the evergreen Tahir? And is Abbott after his awesome last game performance going to be carrying the drinks? I hope bad luck Rillee has recovered from his injury and that he opens the innings and it will be nice if Miller carries on where he's left off....there shouldn't be a spot for Behardien with wunderkind Andile shutting him out. I'll be focusing on Steyn, hi s form is a concern, it's something we'd like to see restored although knowledge of home ground conditions should help. Win the toss Faf.....it's by bloody time!

 5  - zip it is. Funny how the no 1 team in the world can't put together a better team after a few injuries? 

Going back a few years there was a thing about Oz cricket being so strong that their reserve team being good enough to beat any  team in the world. As a matter of fact they even staged a series where #1 played #2. As for the game I t hought our catching was poor and that Steyn was mediocre.

 ... and yet ... even with such a poor performance from the proteas they still managed to beat these Ozzies.

Full Strength or not, 5-0 against the Aussies is unheard of. We also were without AB, Morkel, Morris who would definitely have added to our squad too. 

I fear for the Aussies, apparently outside of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummings, they've got no decent ODI bowlers. 
We're building some decent depth bowling wise with Steyn, Rabada, Tahir, Shamsi, Morris, Pehelukwayo, Morkel, Abbott, Philander, Parnell, Pretorius - those are good option s, who'd all do a job

I wonder what the odds of a series whitewash in favour of the Proteas was before the series started? The one real positive for me in this series was that different players came to the party at different times. It wasn't down to one or two individuals to rescue a crumbling team all the time.

 Thanks Denny, good to be back mate. Had a lot of stuff going on so I've been reading from afar but I've got time to get posting again, thoughts on the test series? Who do you want to see starting, I see a couple of uncapped test players have been included, one being sham si who seems to have a bit about him 

 Shamsi is a must....a genuine spinner.....Ozzies are struggling to read him. There's another spinner, a rookie, sounds like he's good as well, more orthodox but I believe he can bat as well....interesting.
Pink ball has been improved but it's anyone's guess seeing there's going to be night time games with the use of the pink ball....unchartered waters for our guys.
We'll just have to suck and see although I think all things being equal we now after a long period of time have a very, very good well balanced side with an Allrounder to boot!My main concern is Steyn...and Morkel. Steyn because his seems to have lost his mojo and Morkel because it's been along time without any play.

I think it's the dolphins boy Maharaj you're thinking of, he's first class figures certainly look decent and having a lower order player who can smash a few runs at the end of innings or even offer support for the top order guys is a huge bonus.
I get the Steyn worrying, he's a bit older and not quite the gun he used to be but in the tests against NZ he looked like he still has a knack for test wickets. I worry about Rabada and that we'll burn him out.

 I hope Steyn doesn't suffer the same fate Alan Donald suffered at the WC. There's an ICC Trophy in England next year and the Proteas will have a nice prep leading into it by playing England just prior to that championship. Steyn to mine eye lacks rhythm and when tracks are flat he cannot swing the ball. That's when he does silly things instead of bowling line and length. Rabada, well they dropped all his catches in the last ODI but I think you're right, he has to be managed and he can be with Morkel in the squad giving us 4 quicks with Abbott.
Mate, I love the look of the squad....my confidence has rocketed since the disaster series against the POMS.

Were you talking to me about not following the game Denny? I never said I don't/wouldn't follow cricket. I have decided to boycott Bok rugby, but I have made no such claim regarding the Proteas. 

 ' Daddy....thoughts on  Andile?.

 I'm a big Andile fan, Denny. I remember watching a couple of ram slam t20 games last year and he bowled the final over for the Dolphins a couple times and bowled some excellent pressure balls winning them the game. 

I'll be honest and I thought this series was way too soon for him but hey, he was thrown in the deep end and boy did he swim! I think his batting is something that needs to be worked on but the fundamentals are there and he's only 20, and to play a game defining supporting knock against the aussies shows he's got the bottle. He was coached by Klusner for the Dolphins last season and a few similarities have shown. With Pretorius and Andile, have we found our long needed all rounders?

 Have we found much needed Allrounders??.....you bet we have, brother this is manna from heaven. I think Andile has more talent than Pretorius but there is so much room for improvement in both. Andile is a rough diamond but at the young age of 20 what is there to expect, just hope that over the next 3 years he kicks on and becomes the real deal.
