Two NZ rugby players detained over rape complaint in France

Six players, including two New Zealanders, from the Grenoble rugby club in France have been detained following a rape complaint.

Former Waikato backrower Rory Grice and Marlborough's Dylan Hayes were detained along with prop Denis Coulson and centre Chris Farrel, both from Ireland, Australian lock Peter Kimlin and French hooker Loick Jammes, AFP reports.

The players were being questioned after a woman laid a complaint she had been raped by the six men. The woman alleges she met the players at a nighclub in Bordeaux following their Top 14 match against Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday, March 11.

The complaint was filed the following day, AFP reports.

The players were questioned by police along with officials from the Grenoble club.

The club sit second to bottom on the Top 14 and face relegation at the end of the season. According to AFP the six players were sacked by the club last week.

According to the article, the players are sacked.

A few weeks ago, it was pointed out that foreign players are going to be put under pressure in France as the french want to get rid of them to make room for themselves.

From now on, foreign players must behave flawlessly or be endangered. This in the context of a group life in which french players are going to enjoy free rides ( the same case involving french players only is to be treated differently, the testimony of the woman questioned, and ultimately, the clubs not withdrawing their support until the case is solved)

This story shows the french clubs have received the message: keeping to hire that many foreign players will put them under heavy pressure. Better for them to adjust.

Bob thanks for the info. Most sane folk will be surprised only at the fact that all 6 were not kiwis. Can any side afford to have the kiwis in their team? It would be nice to hear ou JW actually condemning this disgraceful conduct but alas that is asking to much. he will probably blame the whole incident on Russian influence. Bwahahahhahahaha

 If this rape actually happened it is deplorable & those involved should have the book thrown at them. However, let's wait until the courts rule on this.

 There sure have been a lot of goings on off the field these days. Hopefully the truth comes out. 

 It seems that a former Wallaby was questioned as well ? Beandik must have forgotten eh ?

Could it be that the fair-minded posters (and a few of the other kind) jumped the gun in putting the boot in again 
Of course they were all mislead by that wee chap Beeno so they have valid excuses.

This is not the first time either  

Oaks only two possibilities reasonably exist:Firstly, this might be a very, very, very rare case where the frot kiwi involved was not as guilty as first alleged. Naturally folk these days, after endless bad behavior, assume another kiwi event.Secondly, money could well have changed hands in order cover over the whole disgraceful event. You know what I mean!
Many terabytes of storage space would be need to store details of kiwi misdemeanors. Beeno, as a true servant of rugby, keeping kiwi feet to the fire where they naturally belong.
