He complained a bit that the semis were too close to the finals, but those 30 year old legs blew by all the youngsters in the final. Although 34 year old Gatlin made it a contest.

Actually by the time he runs in the relay, he will be 30. The fastest men on the planet are "old men" according to the Board. The penny still hasn't dropped.....athletes hit their peaks later these days. Let's look at some others:
Froome....31
Mo Farrah....33 Rose....36
Murray...29
Where are the young guns....a couple of strides behind 34 year old Gatlin The fastest athletes and those with most endurance are over 30.

Tell that to the gasping Matfield.
He was several meters behind the pace within the first 20.
Most of the athletes your referring to aren't regarded as old, but are in fact in their prime ... big difference. Try to get it right next time will ya!!
Try all you like, Mozart ... old is tired, old is slow, old is weak, old is feeble, old isn't able to compete with the young.
An example ... the erection you get now (if you're even able to lift it at all) points slightly less south than when you're totally relaxed ... however when you were 20 it probably stood up against your belly.

He wasn't playing in the first 20, Lomp was getting his head handed to him.....and you shouldn't assume others have your issues CC, the sternum is a more endowed target.

He broke the world record as a youngster telling me he was at his best as a youngster.
Age is slowing the legend down

Shaune Miller, 22, beat Allyson Felix, 30Usain Bolt, 29, beat Warren Gatlin, 34
However
Wade Van Niekerk, 24 beat Kirani James, 23.
Not that it makes any difference, any athlete between the ages of 20 and around 30 is still considered to be in their prime. So any performance of an athlete within that age range comes down to that individual athletes preparation and talent, and not much else.
Some people get a little better as they come to the latter part of that range, and others get a little worse. Just like some kids hit puberty early, and others later. It is just variants in genetics. However, once you are over 30 (or much younger in some sports like gymnastics), age WILL start counting against you...but with extra/better training and dedication, some athletes can still perform at their best beyond that age, but nothing will change the fact that the body is already declining from the late 20's .

"Because he's got no faloorum, fadidle eye-oorum

It's tough to accept reality for some.
It's a natural reaction to set aside the obvious and to conjure a false sense of hope.
To look ever hopeful to the talented and pretend it's the norm.
In the end it all comes crashing down ... and one is forced to look it squarely in the eye and accept that getting older reduces one's abilities dramatically.
Prepare yourself, Mozart ... for a horrible awakening.
