So Morne was back to his usual predictable kick and chase. He was so slow and ponderous in everything he did. We are stuck with him- maybe even until the next Worldcup. Lambie should have come on for him, or at least Kirchner.

That is what pissed me off so much in that test. We had Morne as useless as ever and Meyer refused to use Lambie as a replacement. What is it with Meyer and bloody Morne - does Morne have some devine right to stay on the field - first it was Jantjies who never got a shot off the bench, now its Lambie.
Meyer needs to catch a serious wake-up

I agree with you about Morne = and also think that Lambie could make a difference - especially when Pienaar came on and got a better service. However, to bring on Lambie and retain Hougaard and Francois Steyn would eman he is thrown to the wolves - so I am glad he did not bring on Lambie.
Then you mentioned Jantjies. If I want a kicker at goal I would select either Fouche or Jantjies - if want a flyhalf neither of them deserve selection. Jantjies played for the Lions yesterday and even though he had one good flip pass and kicked all concersions bar 1 - he was atrocious and made serious mistakes that could easily have led to tries being scored. His defence in the channel was non-existent as per normal.
Their is no buts. Morne must be dropped. He usually plays average to poor and just makes the game boring to watch. To be honest if I see more poor performances like yesterday, I am not sure I will allways be watching all the games. I left angered and disapointed by yesterdays game.
It the game plan is to only kick and chase, the kicker better be able to kick properly like Fourie Dupreez. The whole point of an up and under is to put severe pressure on the opposition player who is catching the ball. Also their must be distance on the kicks as well, ideally from deep within our own half to the opposition 22, or just outside so no mark can be called. Some of those kicks yesterday were not even 20 metres. It has to be high and hanging kicks for the tactic to be effective, and it must be combined with variation. Otherwise opposition teams will just have to wings lying far back to support the fullback all the time. The players chasing the kicks did not look very enthused at the same poor kicks and the commitment on the chases was not great either- although many did not give the oppertunity to sprint onto the ball as they were so short.
Right at the end of the game- when kicking was not an option the backline started to run and were unlucky to lose a turnover in the argentian. Frans Steyn had a good break, and Jean ran off him well to get the offload. I though this was inventive and could have led to a try- compared to the other crap dished up.
Again Morne missed kicks. Hougard is usually poor as a scrumhalf behind a pack that is not dominating- as was the case again yesterday.
I actually thought Frans Steyn had a decent second half. With a decent Flyhalf who has a vision and plan abot what he is going to do, I think Frans Steyn will get back to his best. When I look at the body language of Morne Steyn he allways looks in 2 halfs of mind. He passing is ponderous, and Frans Steyn oftens gets hospital passes that are telegraphed to the opposition. Morne is usually walking when he passes as he has to slow down to make a pass.
Mornes tackling was laughable yesterday.
Bring in Pat Lambie at Flyhalf and Aplon at Fullback. This will add some brains and attacking ability to provide variation. Aplon may be small but at least he can tackle and his positional play on both attack and defence is good- and he passes- Unlike Kirchner who does not look for players outside him.
As for Dumb Potgieter- he needs to be replaced by Brussouw. We need someone that can help us retain our own possesion and clear out rucks. Forget about the opposition turnovers if it leads to penalties. If we cant even retain our own possesion at ruck time and get fast clean ball- what other options are their but to kick?
If you are an outside back in the bok team at the moment- it is only a matter of time before losing confidence and form with no chances to attack.
If we are going to play like we did yesterday, forget about winning. Lets just start building a team for the next world cup. Lambie should be flyhalf until such time as Goosen is back in form. Then Lambie can move to fullback.
"EX Supersport-
While the country is clearly willing him to succeed, it is becoming more evident with every game that without the forward dominance that the Bulls team he used to coach relied on for success, Heyneke Meyer’s side looks staid, dour and predictable.
This video is not available in your region The coach needs to put his own selections under scrutiny too, for it is laughable to say you won’t look at Heinrich Brussow, who is missed at a time when the Boks are struggling at the breakdowns and just aren’t getting any quick ball, because he gives away penalties. Not when you select Flip van der Merwe, who gives away a penalty within the first minute of running onto the field.

sharkbok HM will stick to his guns and i bet you then we are roated his appoach wont change. he will just let the players get bigger and that alone wont change his static view of how the game is played.
seems while inder this current regime we can expect much more that this type of performances. power forwards that are battering rams will be our downfall
size and power is important but its not everthing
