One of our members - I think he wrote under the user name Moonrover

Passed away last week on the  famous farm Zeekoegat near Riversdale due to a heart attack.   He contacted me on site to find lease accommodation for him and his lady friend and her daughter and the latter's boyfiend.    Rental accommodation in Riversdcale is scarcer than hen's teeth - but I knew about an empty house on the fam where the previous owner lived before he moved to Hermanus.   I made contact with the new ownmer and eventually the leased the said house.   That is when I actualkly met Dave and his girlfriend came to tell me he died last week.   RIP my friend.         

Sorry to hear that….if it was Moonrover, he was posting here until very recently.

He had the heart attack on Wednesday 13 December and was declared dead by the local doctor the same day.  .    

Sad...how old was he Mike, and was it a holiday lease or did they settle in Riverdale?

I got the impression that he wasn't a youngster...still sad to see people "move on". RIP!!!

He was in his fifties and they lived in a rented house on Zeekoegat. Riversdale.   His partner told me he was taking the dog for a walk when he had a heart attack.         

Very very sad to hear this Mike and thanks for your efforts to help these people. Moonrover was a very solid poster who knew the truth. He will be missed here for sure.

I keep seeing data showing that deaths are way higher than normal and the vaxx appear to be the cause. Myocarditis stats are way up.

Yes we have lost some members and there will be more losses. We are as the grass, the wind blows and we whither - Bible. The feeling we have of permanency is a illusion. That being so its is vital that one ponders the great questions about life and asks God to reveal Himself and His truth to you.

RIP  sad news & way too young.

I can rember a lot of remarks about the issue of day in the past.   Thius time of the year sunrise in Riversdale is cxirca  05:00  in the morning  - so by 07:00 the dog will demand to go for a walk.

By the way - one day on the day be for Christmas we were going "home" for Christmas. and we wanted to leave Pretoria so my boss said to me - what are you doing here at late afternoon at 10;00?  e obviously left at 10:10 - that si in the late aftrnoon .       

RIP. Time goes quickly.

I had 4 Jack  Russeels and when they died had them cremated so their ashes with mine on Zekoegaat in a special hiolder constructed in the family graveyard on the farm where 5 genrations of  my ancestors wer buried..

The farm Zeekoegat were farmed from 1720 and the main farm buildings were dated from 1768,1795 and 1803 and my family owned he farm for 113 years,    The Town Riversdale dated from 1838  and the Annual Farmers show dated from 1868,   The town has many Victorian Edwardian era homes dating from 1880 to 1910.   

The first farmer who farmed there was a Loos who like most farmers hate paying tax to any Government decided to move on further away from Cape Town and sold the farm for 800 ryksdaalders - which included 800 for the farm and 800 for "de losse goed".    When the "Landdrost kantoor" (Magistrates Office)    opened he moved fuirther eastwards becuase he did not like the idea tio pay taxes to any Government) and the sale was concluded just before that and the farm was then registered in the name of the first Mulder that came to SA.as a soldier in 1734 and then released from serice af ter 10 years.    They were routineley let out to the farmers in the Western Cape and earned more than they earned as soldiers with free board and lodging on farms and  after release often bought farms with saved money.   One of them by 1790 was the richest person in the Cape Colony,   He ws a Lutheran by the name of Melk and his descendents still own fams in the winelands area and Kersefontein near Saldanna Bay.

Be it as it may I wass borne on Zeekoegat and grew up on the farm - my interest in history was and  still is based on that farm.   It taught me much about history meant in and means even in the modern world we live in today.   The farm always belonged to influential people in the area - tha family had many members who served as local leaders  in the area - for instance a cousin of my mother was the last Chairman of Parliament before the ANC took over Government,    

My mother was a liberal and disliked Apartheid and I was influenced by her in that regard.   She dedicated her life to help the poor in the area and for instance insisted that all the Colored children from the farm had to be educated up to St 10 and also to higher level - eg teachers and nurses training - and they and their descendents are now wealthy professional people and business owners. themselves.    She had a house manager - a colored lady - who worked for her for 52 years and ran the house totally.   She decided what to do and my parents knew that any orders to her  was not tolerated by her - she decided on meals to be served on whatever other work was necessary to keep the household operational.   When I f irst saw the movie "Gone with the Wind" I thought that Mammy in that movie and her were similar in many respects - they even were of the same size and looks.
