Orie???
Why do you think, he plays for the Stormers, been in the team for the last 4 to 6 years and have the right tan on his skin. Absolute disgrace that such a player is still playing professional rugby. Probably won't even crack a club team or varsity cup team.
Just hope he completes his signing for a French team and that we won't see the back of him ever again
The last game Orrie started was against Australia if I recall. It was arguably the worst Bok performance since Rassie has been in charge- had the bench had not improved things after the likes of Orrie had been discarded,
Marvin Orie gets a huge amount of stick on this board and I don't think I've ever once seen any comment about him that is positive.
I'm not saying he's a great player or even among the top half dozen locks in the country, but what he is is the best non-white lock we have and that's why he gets selected. Not his fault and he doesn't deserve all this abuse. He's not as terrible as you all make him out to be.
Just by the way, when the hapless Stompies choked and lost to Ulster in the final of the the URC, Orie was one of the only Stompie players who played with any guts or courage.
Rooi, yes, Orrie got around the park but lost a number of line outs where he was the jumper. Never won a single ball in the line out against opposition throws.
It doesn't help either when you have Dweeb as a thrower that can't even hit the side of a barn.
Just wish Rassie would accep that unless they are from some tall mountain tribe in Africa, he will struggle to find a decent lock. The Afrikaaners are just blessed with tall genes. The Dutch are the tallest nation for a reason. I stand at 6'2, 188cm and feel short when I go to the Netherlands. Even the woman are tall
If you can't catch, or compete against your opposite number in the line out, what is your value.
If you can't carry and break the defensive line, able to drive over the line. What is your value.
He puts the team at a massive disadvantage
I'll rather have an all out black front row and chip in a loosie than have him in the team for number sake.
Oh, and Ox is crocked, so Rassie will really have to dig deep to meet his quota numbers
Just a sign of the times in RSA I guess.
Second best is good enough irrespective of the result.
Orie offers some mobility. I know this isn't very important to a lot of people, but the work of the locks around the field is very important for the modern game. Too many inflexible plodders like Lood, Steph et al leave us having to play a very rigid and predictable way from phase to phase. He isn't perfect, but to be honest, his performances have greatly exceeded a lot of what the likes of Damian, Steph, and Lood have ever done!
The countless times I’ve seen him miss a tackle or get smashed backwards with ball in hand
You must have been mistaking him for someone else. That description definitely fits some of your favourites. Probably why you are so errant in any discussion. Maybe watching the game sober will help.
Just glad they are preserving Mostert for ABs and playing the useless Dud Toit against the Aussies at home.
Steph has had two strong tests in his entire test career. The first was against Australia in 2018, at home, the other being against England at Twickenham in 2018. He may surprise us and have another good game. It's more likely against Australia than New Zealand . Though we don't quite know what Jones is cooking up, and how far along they are in their new path.
Steph was out of form last year. Hopefully, he regains his top form again, ideally this year.
Steph will probably fly out to New Zealand as a reserve- especially if he has a good game.
That pass Steph made in the world cup final to Kolbe was one of the reasons he won player of the year in 2019
It could only be the only reason. Simple enough, worthy of player of the year? It was a very poor year for any player being considered player of the year. Was he top 10 at anything? He ranked as the 17th top flank in SH rugby that year.
