Saff, according to Meyers comments on an article on the homepage, there is a short turn around time between games and basically they don't want to over cook Beast who is coming back from an injury layoff.
Seems logical.
21 Aug 2014, 13:46#3
Definite a plot here. Short turn arounds and one thing the Argies will do is scrum for 80 mins..When we lose the Beast to fatigue, our scrum play deteriorates massively..Bring beast on for a 30 min thrash..This ensures our scrum is competitive all 80min and we finish the game strong...If its on a knife edge, last thing you want is scrum penalties at the death..Very tactical decision but we wouldnt expect Dave to know anything about that..Dave, you thoughts on elephants and onions please? ;-)
21 Aug 2014, 13:48#4
Some people do understand the concept of player management. Some don't and some will never understand it. There are also the few who refuse to even try to understand it.
21 Aug 2014, 14:46#6
The AB's and Aussies are not playing the Argies you thick as pig shit knob jockey!! Some games Crockett starts, some Woodcock and Franks..They do enough rotation..SA's travel schedule is more demanding than theirs!

Quite a lot of poltics here. Dropping Nyakane and Mohoje - Meyer has no option but to bring another Black into the matchday squad. That means Mvovo coming in.
Howevr, Steenkamp is a joke - why he is in the squad only Meyer would know. I would have invested in Thomas du Toit - a much stronger and active player - or even Van der Merwe of the lions - at least he was the best scrummager in Super 15.

The foundational problem is that the Sharks front row has been played into the ground.Beast also is recovering from a disc injury.
The positive side is Steenkamp is going to be really tested. I do trust Steve Walsh ensures, as Dr Brendon Venter noted, fair scrumming!!
21 Aug 2014, 15:58#11
Exactly my point Dave..They are not playing the Argies..They are playing each other..Two of the worlds best teams locking horns so you need your best players on the park...You dont choose those games to rest players arsehole!!

If Dave had his way our front row would be propped by Coenie and Malherbe. Apparently he never watches any scrums.
21 Aug 2014, 17:36#14
Schalk Van Der Merwe isn't too good around the park, in the games I've seen him in he has missed a few tackles and doesn't make that much ground when he runs the ball, but his scrummaging is top notch.

Shezza
He is nothing worse than Jannie and Steenkamp outside of scrumming and he is a better scummager than both.
21 Aug 2014, 18:17#16
Player management?
That's a laugh.
Meyer doesn't know what he's doing at the best of times. Much like Faggot!
He promised fat Steenkamp he would start this week and now he's merely showing that he's a man of his word. That's all.
A blob of a man who just so happens to be a personal friend of this foolish coach.
Player management my friggin eye.
Reckon ol Steenkamp will probably go for seconds at the after match braai this coming Saturday.

You can check how good Malherbe was in his one scrum last weekend...snapped like a twig.
As for your interpretation CCialis, another little conspiracy theory.....how are the growths today?

One scrum and Mozart gets carried away. I looked and nobody snapped like a lock. the first effoirt the scrum went down and had to be reformed. The second effort - Malherbe scrummed inward went down and was penalized.
The conditions on the ground was slippery and players needed to get used to it - so wha is the great song and dance about. Please stop falsifying performance assessments - you have been caught spreading lies often enough.

He nearly denied us the win...after the penalty the Bargies were within inches of a tie. So we can't rely on this guy to hold for one critical scrum. He tried to angle in to "save" the scrum, but quickly was pushed inwards....and then lifted and snapped. Pootjies in die lug. Pathetic for a Bok prop.

Te standard lie -always ready to lie is our Mozart. Stop talking tripe where you get shown up badly. The one that came closest to deny us the win was Morne Steyn - and that is a fact.

I do not ever take Mozart's player assessments seriously. before the match starts he has a set of phrases to be used against every player he intends to belittle and also whivh players he tends to praise. Whatever happens on the field of play - not fitting into those preconceived ideas does not count. He went on the rampafe against Lood de Jager and praised Bakkies in respect of the test last week - which proved to be total misrepresentation. He does not mind throwing in a substantial number of lies as well.
Better to just accept that he is prejudiced - then you know that he cannot be trusted to write an obj ective assessment.

Look it's simple he just had to stand his ground.....the scrum was not going back. But he cracked straight sideways onto the deck, face in the mud. Pathetic for a Bok tighthead...and here we have two fools trying to talk there way out of it. I have told you over and over again, this guy is not a great scrummager.

Out of the ordinary conditions and the consequences that it will hinder, hamper and cause mishap in a one-off incident is no indicator of ability in extreme conditions...this is likely to happen to any player at some stage or other and forms no basis of accessment...especially a scrumager in extreme muddy conditions...lets be reasonable and fair, Mozart.

Agree Seb. Malherbe has shown good scrumming ability in the past. Lets hope he fulfills the considerable promise shown. Out side the scrum he is a lot better than Jannie.

Malherbe has never been a dominating scrummager. He survives in the S15. This is Coenie all over again...time and again I was told by fools he could scrum when the evidence was popping out of the TV screen that he couldn't. So now Malherbe let's the Boks down, but it's the weather....but Jannie stood for a whole game. Oops inconvenient truth. Open your eyes for heaven sake.

One swallow doesnt make asummer. The man has been out for months comes back has one scrum in attrocious conditions and he is useless. Well how come Meyer picks him.
But for injury he would most likely have taken over from Jannie by now. Jannie desparately needs support so lets hope Malherbe makes it. He is no Coenie. Also I note that Venter strongly criticised the Argies scrumming technique. Lets see how Malherbe goes this week end. Meyer should give him 30 minutes.

Frankly Cilliers is a more reliable scrummager. It's not that there are lots of options, but the idea Malherbe should be playing ahead of Jannie is a joke. The main thing a tighthead has to be able to do is stand up FFS.....this guy collapses like a sack of potatoes. He can't do the basic thing he is picked to do.....I would never pick him.

Forget about Cilliers - he is even for the Stormers a back up prop. Tghe BS you come up is incredible. The problem is that you are absolutely cluesless as to front row play and those are facts.

Cilliers doesnt fall flat on his face at right angles to the scru m, with his face in the mud and his pootjies in die lug. Malherbe does.
