I am going to try and evaluate the performances of the foreign-based players to see whether they actually produced anything of note:- ZANE KIRCHNER Kirchner 0/0 0 0 4/2/10 71 0 1 0 4 1/2 0/0 0 0/0 Kirchner hamdled the ball 16 times - kicking four times, passed the ball twice and ran with it 10 times. Ditance gained is really irrelevant insofar as full backs are concerned. His tackling was atrocious. He was poor under high balls and handed over possession 4 times to the opposition. A really poor performance all round. NOT WORTH HAVING IN THE TEAM. BRYAN HABANA Habana 0/0 0 2/2/3 18 0 0 0 0 3/0 0/0 1 0/0 although he had very few opportunities - his all round game was good - despite the penalty given away. VERY VALUABLE PLAYER TO HAVE IN THE TEAM MORNE STEYN Steyn 0/1 5 7/20/1 4 0 0 0 2 9/1 0/0 0 0/0 Although the stats look reasonable - his real performance was not so. He stood to far back in the pocket and by the time recipients get ball passed to them - they are dead meat. His kicking game was in the main aimless and resulte in ball hand-over to the opposition. Missed to find the line in the case of one penalty and missed one kick at goal. Handed over possession to the opposition on two occasions. Virtually all evaluators agree Steyn put up a very poor show on Saturday. He is way too predictable and not a player with BMT. REALLY NOT OF ANY VALUE TO THE TEAM. RUAN PIENAAR Pienaar 0/0 0 12/39/6 29 0 0 1 2 3/2 0/0 0 0/0 Too many aimless kicks and his defence was extremely poor. Slow and ineffective service to the backline. Lost possession of the ball twice. NOT WORTH HAVING IN THE TEAM FRANCOIS LOUW Louw 0/0 0 0/4/5 7 0 0 0 3 9/2 1/0 0 0/0 Ball carrying poor and ineffective. Lost possession of the ball 3 times. Defence poor for an open side flank. Was definitely not a house on fire. Of value to the team - but really not top standard OF QUESTIONABLE VALUE TO THE TEAM JUANDRE KRUGER Kruger 0/0 0 0/2/3 8 0 1 0 0 3/2 3/0 1 0/0 Played for 40 minutes. Took 3 line out balls. His defence was atrociously poor. No grunt - this one. Gave away a penalty as well. NOT WORTH HAVINMG IN THE SQUAD GUTHRO STEENKAMP Steenkamp 0/0 0 0/0/0 0 0 0 0 0 1/0 0/0 0 0/0 Was on the field of play for about 30 minutes. The stats says it ll he was atrociously poor. Very weak in scrumming. BAD SHOW AND DEFINITELY NOT A TEST LEVEL PLAYER ANYMORE JANO VERMAAK Vermaak 0/0 0 0/16/1 0 0 0 0 1 0/0 0/0 0 0/0 Really showed very little while on the field of play. Lost possession of the ball once. Better than Pienaar - but not by much. NOT A TEST LEVEL PLAYER BY ANY STRETCH OF IMAGINATION SUMMARY Poor or weak performances : 6 players Questionable Performance - 1 player Acceptable performance - 1 player Do we really need the majority of the above players in the Springbok team? The answer is with the exception of Habana and perjhaps Louw - yes. For the rest - the sooner they leave for Europe and stay there the better.

Mike, Pienaar is worst of all of them, this guy plays like someone with sore bones or joints, very slow to get to the ruck and his passes are shocking. Its a relief Du Preez will be available for selection for the next two crucial matches. But I don't see HM excluding any of the players you've mentioned above from selection. I did not understand why Kolisi wasn't brought in sooner, Louw wasn't there at all on Sat
