A few overseas rugby clubs have their sights firmly set on signing Cheetahs wing Willie le Roux.

According to Volksblad, clubs from Japan and France are hunting 23-year-old's services.

However, Le Roux's provincial union, Griquas, will do their best keep him in Kimberley

Griquas CEO, Arni van Rooyen, said they will attempt to increase Le Roux's salary significantly, but it will be up to the player to decide if he wants to stay.

"Willie's contract with Griquas ends on October 31. We'll definitely make a big offer to retain his sevices. However, other clubs from outside are making offers worth millions of rands which will make it very tough for us to keep him," said Van Rooyen.

Le Roux earlier indicated that he likes playing his rugby in Kimberley, but Bok coach Heyneke Meyer's apparent disinterest could make his decision to move abroad a bit easier. According to Volksblad's sources, Le Roux's adventurist style doesn't fit into the Bok game plan which makes it unlikely for him to earn higher honours.

Le Roux has been in outstanding form for the Cheetahs in this year's Super Rugby competition. The central franchise are experiencing their best season to date, and currently sit sixth on the overall log, with seven wins from 10 games.

Van Rooyen further stated that Griquas will not allow the winger an early release from his contract, which will at least see him participate in this year's Currie Cup

Meyer offer the guy a Bok contract - it may help. Would Le Roux shape at international level. He has a good chip ahead and some creativity but makes mistakes which could prove costly at test level. Give him a shot though and lets see. The Bok 15 spot is up for grabs

That article about sums Meyer up as a coach, conservative and unwilling to embrace creativity. We will go nowhere with this man as our coach. We will continue to see conservative selection and a 10 man game plan.

We have a gem in Willie le Roux being snubbed by a coach who lacks vision - very sad. If Meyer had any substance, he would be having that chat with Willie this week.

Wake up Meyer, move with the times. Hell I dread to see the selection of our first Bok side this season.

Le Roux is in fine form at the moment, any credible coach wouldn't have overlooked what Le Roux has, great talent. We might loose a lot of young players because they aren't in Meyer's plans. A lot of these guys prefer to play for their SA so they can have crack at international level, The Mighty Boks. But if that isn't achievable, overseas clubs overpay SA clubs by a mile.

When reading that article - my first thoughts were we have an absolute idiot as a coach..  The man is costing us talented players by  refusing to recognize talent and playing the fool with selections.   I think if Le Roux was playing for the Bulls Meyer would interfere - but for the Cheetahs and Griquas - no way.

I am in full agreement with what you are saying.   Meyer is a dolt and neesd to be fired asap.

I'm not sure SARU are in that state of mind Mike, it would have been great if they were. 2015 WC is just around the corner, and we need a coach who knows what he is doing. With Meyer in charge for the Boks selection, we can kiss our chances of wining the WC goodbye. Unless something miraculous happens, i.e. Meyer sees things the way they really are.

Meyer knows tests are tight affairs and hence is cautious about risky players. Hence the jantjies of the world , unless he comes under quota presure, should be toast. Willie is a risky player as well. Not as risky perhaps as jantjies but what he tries doesnt always come off.

Anyhow how poor Meyer has been slated by the ignorant. The latest classic example being Morne who is acknoldeged right now to be our top flyhalf. Meyer believed in him some others just sounded off a lot of hot air. Conveniently the positives are ignored and any negative - which is actually a positive in many instances - is latched upon.

Disaster is around the corner the doomsayers opine. Meyer is a disaater - fire him now they wail. Being out of kleenex I will stop there! Man what would the bulle history have been without Meyer. They would be out and the Lions in?  Try and get some perspective oaks! Meyer is a builder not a flash select this one then that one then the other one coach. He moves gradually and will as history indicates build the Boks up.

The loss of players is inevitabe given the financial facts. We are here it appears to provide the NH and Japan with players and nobdy is safe from their disgusting greedy paws. When Jan Serfontein and Etzebeth step on the plane maybe some effort will be given to finding a solution. Until then SARFU snoozes on.

Meyer understands SA rugby. This year he will be better prepared and the Boks will recommence the relatively short climp to the top of world rugby.Should be accomplished by 2014 (After Meyers truly disasterous year at the helm we ended up at 2 on the world rankings).

By then of course it will all be about how this only happened because Meyer came to his senses and listened to us.

Yaaaaawn man if only the oaks were less predictable!

The only thing predictable is Meyer's penchant to pick Bulle, and oh there's one more.....his desire to play kick and charge "rugby."

Beenkop, good to see your blind faith in Meyer........the man was on the brink of exposure last year and I wonder what you will be saying when it all falls apart this year. The writing is on the wall - look no further than the selection of his first training squad - it has conservatism written all over it

Beeno

If the June tests are tight affaris as you said above - then we really are in deeper shit than I thought.   Meyer should try out Le oux in one of those tests and if he makes the rade keep him in the squad.   We have such an oversupply of full backs its unebelieveable if I listen to your crap.   Kirchner is Meyer's blue-eyed boy and he has been bloody useless this year.

Unless Meyer start looking at players with ball sense - like Le Roux - we are stuffed.  I hope the bugger wakes up - another poor year and he is a goner.
