The stage is set for rugby's elite to shine at the World Rugby Awards 2025, where the Springboks' prowess is once again on full display. Among the luminaries, Ox Nche stands out as the first prop ever nominated for Player of the Year, a testament to his ground-breaking impact on the field. His teammates, Malcolm Marx and Pieter-Steph du Toit, along with France's Louis Bielle-Biarrey, are also vying for the coveted title in a lineup that speaks volumes about the game's current titans.

While the women's accolades have already been distributed following the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, the men's awards are ripe for the taking. The categories up for grabs include International Rugby Player Try of the Year, World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year, and the prestigious Player of the Year.

Nche's nomination is not just a personal milestone but a historic moment for rugby. Marx, on his second nomination, continues to prove his mettle, having been a contender back in 2018 as well. Meanwhile, du Toit, last year's Player of the Year, is eyeing a rare achievement; he could join the legendary ranks of Richie McCaw and Dan Carter as a three-time winner of this award.

"The World Rugby Awards represent a celebration of the very best our sport has to offer,"

said Brett Robinson, World Rugby chairperson.

"From breathtaking tries to breakthrough talents and inspirational leaders, this year’s nominees have shone brightly on the global stage in 2025, truly embodying the values and spirit of rugby."

The Breakthrough Player of the Year award also highlights emerging talents, with South Africa's Ethan Hooker competing against England's Henry Pollock, Australia's Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, and New Zealand's Fabian Holland.

For the Try of the Year, a spectacular array of international talent is represented, with nominees including Santiago Cordero of Argentina, Santiago Pedrero of Chile, Lekima Tagitagivalu of Fiji, and Tupou Vaa’i of New Zealand.

The anticipation builds as the rugby community awaits the announcement of the awards on November 22, followed by the unveiling of the World Rugby Dream Team of the Year on November 25. This celebration encapsulates a year of outstanding performances and will spotlight the game's standout performers, ensuring the spirit of rugby burns brighter than ever.
