The uncapped Jordaan, a former star for the SA Under-20 and Springbok Sevens teams, has impressed for the Cell C Sharks this season.


Olivier is a veteran of 37 tests for the Springboks. He made his test debut in 2006 and his last match in the Green and Gold was in 2012 against England in Port Elizabeth.


“Paul has successfully come through the national and provincial ranks and was one of the Sharks’ in-form backs on their very successful Australasian tour since he came back from an injury a few weeks ago,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.


“Wynand’s been with us before. He is very experienced and was one of the better players in the World XV team we faced in Cape Town last weekend, while he was also one of the star performers for his club, Montpellier, who finished second in the tough French Top 14 league.”


Both these players can cover inside and outside centre and will link up with the squad later on Friday.

Hell of a thing when you claim Olivier was one of the better player to face the Boks.

A average club at best who never could step up to test level.

 At this point in time Sadie is getting a raw deal.
I cant think Olivie r is better than him but unfortunately  I have not seen Wynand playing in the NH. However judged on the Olivier of the past I think Sadie is a classier player with a better rugby brain.

Jordaan would be lost at test level....he is simply too small. In his last match, lined up against the powerful de Allende he made 2 of his 5 attempted tackles.

 

Olivier actually had a decent game against the Boks last week. A former huge Dave favourite, he was always very vulnerable to pace...a Giteau bunny....but he is a strong chap and knows the game. HM is providing cover in case Stepfontein implodes tomorrow. Personally I think it would have been wise to choose Wynand to defend Roberts.

 Could Jordaan gas Roberts. Quite possible. 
Our loose trio must provide some cover.  If our scrum was doing well Britz could aslo help out. Loves playing out in the backline.  Our scrum though could well have a torrid time - we shall see.
I doubt very much Serfontein will implode. He is a tough bugger and up for it. A compact 98kg.
Meyer loves experience so will probably go for Olivie r

He could if he ever gets the space...Roberts doesn't need the space. There is nothing about the structure of the Bools centre defence that fills me with confidence.

 

HM is miles ahead of the common tripe. He looks at Jordaan and sees a player who wll have his moments in the S15 but wont survive at test level. So he tries to avoid getting him into the mix....he is looking for durable selections that form part of a permanent team....not for rewards to good play at a lower level.

 I wonder if Jordaan is covering 13, and not 12. He has been playing at 12 for the Sharks lately, but 13 seems to be his preferred position. Maybe a bit small for a 12. Roberts and Mother Nonu c ould steam roll him.

Funny how the 5' 9" - 88kg De Jongh is good enough for Bok rugby but the 5' 11" - 88kg Jordaan is simply too damn small. 

Truly puzzling.

Funny how a plodding De Jongh in comparison to Jordaan should be part of the Bok mix but Jordaan who is defensively superior, as well as streets ahead in attack just isn't the type that Meyer's apparently looking for.

But Jordaan will never be a satisfactory international defender...he goes high and will be bumped off by the big guys....as he was last year by Fruean.

Are you normally petty-minded or are you just being a simpleton with a malfunctioning brain that bedevil your thinking.  Jordaan has the best tackle record of any center in Super 15 and you went on a crusade.  His record is twice better than that of Fransie and three times better than your pet De Jongh.   He is both taller and 6 kgs heavier than De Jongh - but De Jongh is not too small - Jordaan is.
What else can one expect from the restricted thinking of a petty-minded person?

Jordaan did play at 12 in the Crusaders and Blues game and tackled Crotty and Nonu out of the game.  As far back as 2012 final he played against SVW and took every tackle that came his way and ran around him.   If Jordaan could take care of Nonu, Crotty and SBW - he certainly can do the same with Roberts.  
Mozart has Roberts and Basteraud on his brain - that little bit of it that is still functioning - and now suddenly Roberts will destroy Serfontein and Jordeaan.  The Welsh loosies and Roberts a re most likely to target Morne Steyn as he really is the weakest defending flyhalf in SA - basically from a defense perspective on par with Earl Silky Hands.  We saw enough of Morne's defense in the Ellis Park test to really have the jitters about that one.

 Both these replacement centres are not competent to play as well as the starters so debating about that is pointless. Jamie Roberts is a strong runner at inside centre but I believe Serfontein can match him if he is at his best, Jordaan wouldn't do as good in the physical contacts, his play style is more like a wing or outside centre rather than a inside centre to me anyway. Meyer didn't have much time to decide who the replacements should be which is why I believe Jordaan and Olivier was selected, if meyer wasn't in a rush and analysed more into which player is more suitable I think Johann Sadie or Alwyn Hollenbach could've come in to replacements for the bench, or maybe others such as Robert Ebersohn. Nonetheless De Allende is still the main first choice inside centre for me and he is yet to make his debut when he is fully recovered from injury and I think he will definitely surprise a few.

There is not a cenrter pair in the world that would not think it a challenge to defend against Roberts (110kg) and Davies (104kg).Our best would be Jean (100 kg) and Allende (103kg).
At 98 kg and compact Jan should do a reasonable job. JP at 106 should be able to watch Davies provided his skills are up to it.
Lucid I agree the 91 kg Jordaan is a outside center or wing. I hope he comes off the bench and given enough time to make a positive impact.
I would not play Ebersohn 89kg - he is all heart but he gives away too much size for a 12. He could not make an international inside center. At 13 he does not have the pace of a Jordaan.
I think Sadie (96 kg) is a good center and probably a better bet than Olivier.Hollenbach (99kg) had a good game against the bulle but really needs to perform consistently before deserving a call up. Watermeyer (96kg) has impressed at times

 Hey listen, fuck Jamie Roberts...So much being said about him and his strength but I bet he is brought down all game much the same as any other centre. Serfontein is not an under 14 school kid! He still has a lot of first class experience.
Its been a weird year hey..To top it off, we now have Wynand Olivier back. Its like all these old guys we thought were done and could/would never be Boks again are all flooding back into the team..I am not writing off John Smit and Joe Van Niekerk now!
