.....we thrashed Wales 43 to 17, scoring four tries. I'm not sure an intellectually honest person could say Heineke's first team was better prepared than PdV's first. Just keeping it real.
PdV's first game is a pesky memory....
Easy there Moz, for starters I'm sure PDV would have had more than a week's prep and in comparison would have had a more established team.
All Peter had to do was select the spine of the World Cup team. Factor in though that the Welsh were very poor in the first test and you see that the Boks had an easy ride; the second however was the completely different story as they completely exposed our soft under belly. It was a completely different scenario. If you want to keep it real, then you ust concede that Peter's debut side would have lost this test today.
Hmmmmm. More like a femur of the RWC winners:
Jantjies, Chavanga, Jacobs, Jean, Habana, Butch, Conradie
Steenkamo, Smit, Moojati, Juan, Bakkies Bekker, Watson and Sussspies.
I'd say winning with that team was pretty special. This is just a pesky question....not a conclusion. But I also haven't concluded Meyer's first TN will be any better than PdV's. He has to deal with some retirements, and a much stronger NZ team.
Peter's 2008 was an embarrassment. And he relied quite strongly on the spine of the 2007 side or with players Jake had brought into the squad. The kind of rugby the Boks played on Saturday was a significant step up already from the Peter era. We rarely won games of that intensity. And with three days preparation, and with no Smit, Du Preez, Bakkies et al. There's scarcely any room for comparison. Though I can see now how the anti-Bulls are lining this all up. Quite predictable.
