PdV was rescued by the team....

....after a rocky start. They pulled together and almost coached themselves. The result? From a disappointing year in 2008, the Boks rebounded to their best year in the professional era....beating the Lions and taking the Trinations winning 7 of 9 tests against those formidable opponents. So why cant our current team follow that formula.....probably because they aren't a team. Just a collection of individuals very few of whom would make the Pom or NZ teams. The coaching is a problem.....sure. And results could be dramatically improved if a Jake or an Eddie Jones took the reigns. But not with the current crop of players exclusively. Many of them arent worthy.

There are two aspects to your posting above.   The one is to list the advantage about how the Springbok senior players took over responsibility for coaching that led to the successes in the later part of the De Villiers coaching period.   The question was that during 2008 there was a deterioration -- but in 2009 there was in upsurge and neglecting to mention that in 2010 and 2011 there was a serious deterioration and the results were poor and getting worse.
The nasty aspect was that the senior players did most to ensure there own presence in the team - nothing to do with the promotion of the game in SA.
You should not post that kind of info on the site and then pretend it was scientific and a reason to bring it into the 2016 situation.   It was a totally unfortunate issue that arose when De Villiers was coach and he became a prisoner of the senior players and that kind of situation should never arise.

And if you got more of your silly Currie Cup picks they would have been awful as well/ I warned you but you were convinced....now you look like the fool you are. Get it through your brain......the Currie Cup is a sub standard competition. Even the Super rugby heroes fail time and again in the step up to test rugby. There are no players out there who are going to change everything if they were chosen. We decided to break up our team, throw all the balls in the air and one by one they are crashing to the deck.  What a lark - Mozart is giving us lessons why his retirees should have remained in the Springbok squad to take over the running of the team from a failed coach.   That and the fact that the players in the De Villiers era were only looking after their own interests and he is too dim to realize that.
