Performance assessment - Jantjies

I watched the first half and then the last 15 minutes of the second half - so something may have gone missing proving me wrong in the 25 minutes I had to go out.

Be it as it may based on the first half performance Jantjies did his level best to play himself out of contention for the no 10 position in the Springbok team.   He was bad in missing a penalty line kick and failed to find touch with a relieving kick.  The fact is he also missed 2 tackles and lost ball possession as well.  

Under pressure he is not a player to trust in the critical no 10 position.  

I think we all agree that Jantjies is not test material.

I doubt he'll be considered for the Bok 10 jersey ... then again ... Rassie did invite Wiese to the camp ... so who knows what's going in that office jockey's head.

Agreed, he is another player that can perform at Super Rugby level, but even then, in high pressure games, he folds. Surely the first choice 10's for the Boks are Willemse and Pollard. Pollard is still a little rough around the edges, but it does seem that Mitchell is slowly extracting the Pollard of a couple of years back out of him. I know Mike will agree with this, but he had almost all of his flair coached out of him. Sure, his injuries probably played a part, but under Nolis and Heineke even when healthy he seemed to progressively get worse and worse.

Pollard was seriously damaged by idiot coaches he suffered under from as far back as 2014 - as you said his flair was coached out of him.

We will see tomorrow how Du Preez and Willemse shaped up when playing against each other.  Du Preez was very poor in his last match and one hope can get back his form this week.  

I am at this stage not really in favour to select Willemse in the starting role.   The guy is only 19 years of age,   I would rather have him playin the Under 20WC and in the Rugby Chmapionship start phasing him in by playing from the bench,     

Willemse doesn't know what test match rugby is yet.

It stands to reason that he'll be nervous and have a few doubts about whether he's capable.

He needs a solid boost to his confidence. Coming off the bench in the last 20 against the Welsh would be perfect for him. He needs to be surrounded by strong players. Players that pump him up ... that look after him.

Having a De Allende on his outside would be disastrous ... especially if he in turn has another hopeless case in Jesse Kriel outside him.

We need a strong captain to lead. Who's that going to be with Whiteley out? Please don't tell me it's one of Mike's favourites ... Kolisi!!
