Pienaar primed for top award

Springbok and Ulster scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar has been shortlisted for the European Player of the Year accolade.

The European Cup final between Ulster and Leinster will be staged this Saturday. Four of the players that will be involved in this decider have been nominated for the northern hemisphere’s most prestigious individual prize.

Pienaar and his Ulster team-mate Stephen Ferris have made the list, as has the Leinster pair of flyhalf Jonny Sexton and fullback Rob Kearney. Toulon pivot Jonny Wilkinson is the fifth man in line for the award.

Ruan is a top 5 in the world scrumhalf. His career was destroyed by the foolish notion of making him Bok 10.....something he never was comfortable doing. In a test environment he remains a major asset.....and we need an alternative to Hougaard, just in case of injury.

He would probably be the one player the Heynecke looks at if he does not go with fourie du Preez. Will honestly not be a bad choice.
