Pieter-Steph du Toit (lock) and Juan de Jongh (centre) have been recalled to the Springbok squad for the final two home tests of 2013, against Australia and New Zealand in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship in the next fortnight.

The 21-year-old Du Toit was part of the Springbok squad in June but had to withdraw because of a sternum injury. He has completed his rehabilitation and has consequently played two full Absa Currie Cup matches for The Sharks.

De Jongh, who did not travel with the Springboks to Argentina, Australia and New Zealand, is back in the squad. He has been in solid form for DHL Western Province in the Absa Currie Cup.

“It’s great to see Pieter-Steph back in action and I have to commend The Sharks for the good work they’ve done on getting him back to full match fitness,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

“He has always been part of our long-term plans and we’re looking forward to welcoming him back into the Springbok fold.

“Juan is an experienced player and will slot back into the squad with ease as we start our preparations for the test against Australia at DHL Newlands on Saturday.”

The Springbok squad will start preparing for the test against Australia on Monday in Cape Town. The final round of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship is on 5 October against New Zealand at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

THE SPRINGBOK SQUAD FOR THE FINAL TWO CASTLE LAGER RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP TESTS:

Forwards (17): Lourens Adriaanse, Willem Alberts, Marcell Coetzee, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi, Juandré Kruger, Francois Louw, Tendai Mtawarira, Coenie Oosthuizen, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Adriaan Strauss, Flip van der Merwe, Duane Vermeulen.

Backs (13): Bjorn Basson, Juan de Jongh, Jean de Villiers (captain), Fourie du Preez, JJ Engelbrecht, Bryan Habana, Zane Kirchner, Patrick Lambie, Willie le Roux, Ruan Pienaar, Jan Serfontein, Morné Steyn, Jano Vermaak.

Shezza You bring this one on board - while I was typing my comments. Thanks for it anyway. To make it absolutely clear I am going to add my comments on the various players and issues under this heading as well:- What the hell does he (Meyer) think the following proven failures as players will bring to the table, but a bad loss against the All Blacks:- * Willem Alberts - the prop who masquerade as a loosie * Juandre Kruger - who can call line-outs, but is otherwise useless * Jannie du Plessis - way past his sell by date * Grthro Steenkamp - the fat flop who is useless in scrumming * Flip van der Merwe - the penalty machine who cannot jump in line-outs * Chilliboy Rallepele - obviously a BEE selection * Bjorn Basson - a failure who proved again yesterday he cannot tackle * Juan de Jognh - perhaps Meyer did not see his tackle stats this year - useless in attack * Zane krrichner - the absolute failure at full back - wonderful for opposition because he cannot tackle to save his life; * Ruan Pienaar - who was hopeless in all the games he played in this year * Morne Steyn - one-dimensional and a hopeless failure in the test at Eden Park. Eleven of the 28 players are there as proven failures in tests. What does Meyer hope to achieve with them? I can see the following selections for the game against Australia this coming weekend:- 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Willie le Roux, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Jean de Villiers (c), 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Fourie du Preez, 8 Duane vermeulen, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Jannie du Plessi, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Tendai Mtawarire Replacements : 16 Bismarck du Plessis, 17 Gurthro Steenkamp, 18 Coenie Oosthuizen, 19 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 20 Siya Kolisi, 21 Ruan Pienaar, 22 Patrick Lambie, 23 Jan Serfontein The above contains 4 proven failures and 1 dubious selection. Because the Walklabies has been weak this year - the Springboks may yet win on Saturday. However, with that lot - and especially the useless full back and the totally inept loosie combination - a loss against the All Blacks is guaranteed.

Did you honestly expect change? Meyer is aiming to win the comp through continuity,.

Typically sound moves by Meyer. Our lock situation seems set for the RC. I'm not sure if Flip or Juandre will start, but they will likely be in the match 23. Stephanie is there to imbibe the vibe and have himself measured for next year. I suppose there is an outside chance he might make the 23 if Flip starts, as an alternative to Juandre, who is a place holder. - As for the return of de Jongh, it's a good move to have a professional in the wings. Juan may not be everybody's cup of tea, but he knows top level centre play. Serfontein has been a little injury prone, so having Juan there makes sense.

Shezza I just checked the weather for cast for Cape Town for this coming week and the whole week is likely to be very wet and cold. Saturday is given as being cold and very rainy. That could level the playing field against the Australians - especially since the ball-handling ability of some of the SA players are poor and clumsy. However,, despite that and taking into account the poor performance of the Wallabies in tests played this year - I think the Springboks have a chance to beat them. There is one absolute certainty - we are going to lose against the All Blacks in Johannesburg next week - we have no hope with that squad against the AB's - who will beat them with the greatest of ease. You cannot go into the test with a dodgy team like Meyer would be able to select from that lot.

Mozart Your constant harping on Juan de Jongh "knowing top level play" is like a dog chasing a car. He may "know" top level play, but he is unable to execute anything. The lucky thing for us is that he may not be in the math day 23 - because with his tackling record this year the All Blacks will run over him as if he is not even on the field of play. He was dismal in the CC when he played for WP as well and contributed nothing to the games he played in. As to the loosie combination - let me remind you again what happened to the same players in Soweto last year by quoting the stats for you:- Louw 0/0 0 0/4/4 0 0 0 0 0 5/2 0/0 0 0/0 Alberts 0/0 0 0/1/4 5 0 0 1 0 1/0 2/0 0 0/0 Vermeulen 0/0 0 0/4/1 0 0 0 0 1 6/0 3/0 0 0/0 12 Tackles missing 2 by 3 loosies in a game is a joke in bad taste on a day when the AB loosies made 32 tackles missing none. Those tackle stats by all 3 loosies is what we expect from 1 loosie is nusch a game. Reason they were never near enough to tackle players and unable to get anywhere near breakdowns insofar as ball recovery is concerned. Hopeless exercise in futility is clear. Bekker in the Soweto test was also very poor - but even as a poor Bekker is ten times better than the gutless Kruger and the useless Van der Merwe. We also sits with the absolutely useless Steenkamp - whom Meyer would have on the bench once again. The one positive is that we will not have Jantjies on the field of play for 55 minutes - but we will have Steyn - who regularly caves in in tight matches. I would dearly love to remind you of his hopeless performances in the Super 15 semi this year - when he made a relieving kick which was so poor it led to the winning try of the Brumbies and his clueless play at Eden Park in the last test. And then there is also Kirchner - who cannot defend to save his life and his reputation of being safe under high balls is a totall fabrication. With that lot a loss against the All Blacks is an absolute guarantee - that is why the squad is utterly incomprehensible and stupid. Having 11 proven - non-performers in a squad of 28 - is like inviting in disaster. .

Seriously Oom find some new things to say.....we get what you think about these players, which doesn't mean we agree with you. But endless whining isn't likely to change that.

Mozart There is nothing new to say. When a coach select failures to represent SA in tests - and who lose same - what can one say. You are the defender of Meyer's selections - but you try and ignore the basic facts provided by me. Rather than comment on those facts and try and prove me wrong - you turn on me by your latest statement.. Do you really disiagree and prove me wrong - that I the essence of debate. You cannot fault my arguments logically - that is why you yourself make such illogical statements. Prove me wrong about the non-contribution of our three loosies in the Soweto test last year, prove me wrong about the failure of Morne Steyn in the Super 15 semi and in the Eden Park test, prove me wrong about the sick performances of Steenkamp in all the tests he played in as well as his performance for his club, prove me wrong about the gutless performances of Kruger - all of the above on a proven basis by factual statements and I will keep quiet. What hurts me is the stupidity to stick with proven flops to represent SA in tests. As a supporter it sickens me to recognize the facts and then have to end up in disappointment knowing where the problems are. You may enjoy losing - I hate the idea of it especially when it is self-inflicted.

Saffex In essence I agree with you - but would also drew a line through Alberts ( the quasi-prop pretending he is a loosie) and put in Labuschagne. And then there is Jantjies - OMG - nobody can go that low. Get him out of that list asap

None of Kirsten, Lood, Mvovo, de Allende, Marais or van Zyl  would be more than bench alternatives. So their selection would be a non event. Selecting Jantjies would be the height of charity.....you cant be serious Dave.

Juandre actually played alright when he came on against NZL. We must resist changing the team too much now. Same players must see out the remainder of the championship. Slight changes like Steph-du toit and Du preez come in

Mozart Is the macabre selection of De Jongh also a "non-event"? At least De Allende would be a vast improvement on De Jongh. Then there is Kirchner - the mediocre - could that selection be justified bearing in mind his performances this year? At least Marais played very well in Super 15 - which Kirchner did not? Meyer has too many liabilities in his squad which is going to cost us dearly against the All Blacks.

For me PSDT have to start, I would not bother with Kruger or Flop, they have been the most dissapointing lock prospect for SA. They looked good for the bulls a few seasons ago but to me flop just looks to lazy and yellow card prospect. I know the guys are young but I would far rather have. Estebeth, PSDT and Lood. These guys are really versatile, Estebeth can play both 5 and 4, PSDT is great at 7 and 5, Lood is your all out number 4 but can also cover 5. I think we would gain more picking them rather than blobs Meyer keeps picking.

In the back I would start with Du Preez with van Zyl on the bench. Pienaar has been the biggest dissapointment. Jantjies are gaining his form back and even though it is the currie cup, I might even consider starting him and dropping Steyn and Kirchner completely. Short term I would move lambie to 15 or alternatively bring in Mvovo and move Willie back to 15.

My point is, no Flop, Kruger, Kirchner, Basson, Pienaar, Steyn only plays well when he has Du Preez on his inside, not good for a long term strategy, so I would love to see what lambie or jantjies does when the have a player like Du Preez. Van Zyl can only learn

Moz if you saw Jantjies current form you would not be saying that. Give me Jantjies over Morne anyday. While none of my alternate picks would start, they are better than the players I have crossed out and represent the future. Therefore their inclusion would be beneficial in terms of being part of the set-up. There is absolutely no point in hanging on to players like Kruger, Steenkamp, Basson, Kirschner, de Jongh and the likes. They are either past it or just not test material. They have all been given extended runs, its time to move on
